SHENGAL – A march was held in Shengal on the anniversary of the June 1 Initiative, initiated by the Kurdistan Freedom Movement against liquidationism and international conspiracy in 2004. The march led by Shengal Young Women’s Union and Êzidxan Youth Union started on the Lofa road in Kolika village on Shengal Mountain.
PKK and HPG flags and posters of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan were carried during the march with the slogan ‘Bi soul Apoyî xwe nû bike, cenga azadiyê ser bixe’. The march, in which the 14-day resistance of the Maxmur people against the siege of the Iraqi army was saluted, continued until the Martyr Dilgeş and Berxwedan Cemetery.
At the end of the march, a statement was read by Hemu Şengali, Member of the Board of the Êzidxan Youth Union.
The statement stated: “We celebrate the 1st June Breakthrough of our martyrs, patriotic people, who were the architects of this struggle, and our guerrillas who came to the aid of our people in the 74th edict. AKP and MHP, which are the products of the same politics, have been continuing their attacks since then. It bombs Medya Defense Zones dozens of times a day and uses all kinds of banned weapons. It carries out genocidal attacks not only against the Kurdish people, but also against all the peoples of the Middle East.”
In the statement, it was also stated that the invading Turkish state targeted the will of the people with its attacks, and that the Turkish state wanted to enforce the 9 October Agreement on the Iraqi government.
The statement said, “Iraq is attacking our people with the support of the Turkish state and KDP against the will of the people developing in Maxmur. This policy of the invading Turkish state in Iraq causes massacres and instability in the region. As Yazidi youth, we will not remain silent against these plans of attack against us and we will continue our struggle in the spirit of June 1.”
