BEHDINAN – YJA Star Central Headquarters Command said the following regarding the martyrdom of our commander Leyla Sorxwîn (Hamiyet Yalçınkaya):
“PKK Central Committee Member and PAJK Assembly Member, HPG and YJA Star Our esteemed commander Leyla Sorxwîn (Hamiyet Yalçınkaya), who was a member of the Command Council, reached martyrdom after fighting heroically for two days with her 6 female comrades in the enemy operation that took place in Besta on 22 and 23 January 2023. As YJA Star Central Headquarters Command, we express our condolences to all our people in the person of our Amed people, who sacrificed many of their children for the sake of a free life and country, especially the esteemed patriotic Yalçınkaya family, and we commemorate our comrade Leyla Sorxwîn and our Besta martyrs with respect and gratitude.

Our esteemed commander Leyla Sorxwîn was born in a patriotic family from Amed and joined the Party ranks in 1993, recognizing the struggle for freedom with her unyielding feelings at a very young age. By actively participating in the struggle in Amed, Botan, Zagros and Garê areas, she increased her struggle for the development of free women’s militancy day by day. With her commitment to the Leadership and the Leader’s Democratic, Ecological, Women’s Libertarian Paradigm, she has succeeded in creating a free woman stance in her own person by facing all kinds of difficulties for the development of the women’s army. He took a strong stance with his courageous and valiant stance against the international conspiracy and the traitor-liquidator line developed against our Leader in 1999, and he internalized our Leader’s paradigm by approaching it concisely. This effort, principled stance, bravery, love of people and life, Comrade Leyla, who has always been a guiding, instructive and educational commander to her comrades in life with her courage, enthusiasm and warrior character, is one of our pioneer commanders who sacrificed with her 31 years of struggle. He has always struggled against non-party understandings and approaches with his ideological organizational awareness, and has been a source of trust for all his comrades with his highly spiritual and inclusive comradeship.
Our Esteemed Commander, Comrade Leyla, who actively participated in the struggle in Botan, the stronghold of the guerrilla and where the foundation of the women’s army was laid, has accomplished many firsts of guerrillaism in these places. She has made great efforts here with her heart, which she integrated with the people of Botan, and participated in a self-sacrificing manner. He devotedly participated in our Revolutionary People’s War, especially in the June 1st Campaign, and played its role by being a strong commander in historical moves throughout his guerrilla life. As a warrior, humble and active commander, he successfully fulfilled his pioneering role. Our comrade Leyla, who became a commander in many areas from Amed to Rojhilat, from Garê to Zagros by guerrilla, took part in our struggle at every level, from Apoist self-defense fighter to taking part in our Central Headquarters Command, he has given all his duties and responsibilities. At the same time, PKK and PAJK have been worthy of their duties at the highest level, and have always been in search and effort to do more than they can. She did not know any limits of the given order, and by believing wholeheartedly in the ideology of women’s liberation, she became the most concrete truth of how a free Kurdish woman can develop, become stronger, become more conscious, beautiful and free.
With the martyrdom of Comrade Delal Amed, our esteemed Commander, in 2017, our comrade Leyla went to Botan with her deep devotion to Comrade Delal and all the martyrs. He moved to Botan to fill the place of Comrade Delal, to continue his struggle and to lead him to victory. Comrade Leyla developed herself by integrating with the patriotic feelings of women’s resilience, giving a high meaning to every truth embodied in the Freedom Movement and immediately putting it into practice. As a comrade who achieved the criteria of freedom in his personality, principles, lifestyle and working style, and his combativeness, he took the PKK-PAJK line as a basis in every environment he went with his command and lifestyle, and became a source of confidence for all his comrades in every matter.
ESSENTIAL, WORD, PRACTICE AND ACTION ARE ONE
Comrade Leyla has deeply internalized the Leadership line and developed herself in every sense with the militant measures of a free woman. As a natural, simple, humble and concise comrade, She approached all her warriors with love and gave great efforts for their development. Again, HPG and YJA Star have made important efforts in the development, restructuring and successful implementation of democratic women’s guerrillaism, and in this sense, they have brought great experience to our struggle. Comrade Leyla, whose essence and word, practice and action are the same, has dealt the heaviest blows to the fascist genocidal forces many times with her military experience, guerrilla background, warrior and courageous stance, and has always managed to make the enemy lose. With her great anger towards the enemy and her great love for freedom, she marched against the enemy in many of her actions.
Comrade Leyla, with her personality with historical experience and knowledge, has always been a seeker of creation and improvement in the most difficult times, with her commitment to our Leader, in the Botan field, which she recently visited and loved so much. Comrade Leyla here, with great efforts, has always taken every step to serve the dreams of our Leader and our patriotic people for a Free Kurdistan, and has devoted herself to the cause of freedom. For this cause, she reached martyrdom with the courage of the brave Kurdish woman, by inflicting great blows on the enemy with her self-sacrificing war style and fighting until her last breath. We commemorate all our martyrs with respect and gratitude in the person of our valiant Commander, Comrade Leyla Sorxwîn, and 6 of our female comrades who were martyred with her, and we reiterate our promise that we will take their revenge by protecting their memories and dreams.”
