BEHDÎNAN – The Executive Committee of the PKK emphasized that the results of the last elections showed that the struggle against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics cannot be achieved only through elections and that it is necessary to fight with all methods and continuously: “The results of the May 14 elections also challenge us to develop a continuous and much more effective struggle against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics. It shows that the fight against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics cannot be achieved only through elections; it is necessary to fight them with all possible methods and continuously. Of course we will act accordingly; we will develop anti-fascist resistance in every area and much stronger to destroy fascism, break isolation and make Kurdistan free and Turkey democratic based on physical freedom of Rêber APO.”
The Executive Committee of the PKK issued a written statement on the occasion of May 18, the day of the Şehîds of Kurdistan.
The full text of the statement reads as follows:
“As is well known, we as the Kurdistan Freedom Movement lost our first major Şehîd on May 18, 1977 in Antep. Our party, which is our freedom vanguard and our freedom resistance, was developed in memory of our first great Şehîd, comrade Haki Karer. Rêber APO said about comrade Haki Karer: “He was like my secret soul”. Properly claiming the memory of Comrade Haki Karer brought new resistance and martyrdom after martyrdom. On May 19, 1978, comrade Halil Çavgun fell in Hilvan Şehîd, on the evening of May 17, 1982, the historic resistance action of the Four unfolded, illuminating the dungeon of Amed. On May 16, 1997, around 70 of our comrades were massacred in Hewlêr by the betrayal of the KDP. So much so that we have dozens of Şehîds every May day.
WITH RESPECT, LOVE AND GRATITUDE
We, the freedom movement of Kurdistan and the Kurdish society, are now experiencing a new month of Şehîds and May 18th, the day of Şehîds. On the 46th anniversary of his martyrdom, we commemorate the great revolutionary leader, comrade Haki Karer, with deep respect, love and gratitude. We commemorate with respect and gratitude all the heroic Şehîds of the 50-year Great Freedom March in the person of Comrade Haki Karer; We reaffirm our promise to achieve their goals and keep their memory alive. We salute Rêber APO, who describes himself as the “speaker of the Şehîds”, and the historical Imrali resistance. In the 47th year of struggle, we declare that we will resist in the line of the Chairman and the Şehîds and surely win.
PROTECT YOUR MEMORABILITY
As is well known, the Turkish Revolutionary Movement also had major Şehîds to mourn in May. On May 6, 1972, Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Aslan and Hüseyin İnan were executed in Ankara. On May 18, 1973, Ibrahim Kaypakkaya was murdered under torture at the Diyarbakır Police Station. At the end of May, Sinan Cemgil and his friends in Nurhak became Şehîd. On the anniversary of their martyrdom, we commemorate with respect and gratitude the great revolutionary leaders Ibrahim Kaypakkaya and Sinan Cemgil and all the heroic Şehîds of the struggle for socialism and democracy in Turkey. In order to preserve this memory in the right way, Rêber APOo has taken up the fight for freedom and led the revolutionary resistance to this day and will continue to do so in the future in the same way.
YOU DETERMINE THE VICTORY LINE
It is clear that the greatness of a thing is determined by the Şehîds who are sacrificed for it. The Şehîds given for the cause are witnesses and proofs of the greatness of this cause and that it will surely triumph. All positive developments are won by fighting in the line of the Şehîds and under the leadership of the Şehîds. The Kurdistan Freedom Movement is such a historic movement and the Kurdistan Freedom Cause is such a big cause. It owes its greatness and irrevocability to tens of thousands of Şehîds, starting with comrade Haki Karer and ending with the heroic Şehîds of the resistance of Zap, Avaşin and Metîna. The line of victory will be determined by the heroic Şehîds who fought in the Fedaî line against the fascist-genocidal enemy,
OUR MOST FUNDAMENTAL SOURCE OF POWER
Our Şehîds are the most fundamental force that educates, organizes, unites and pushes us as a movement and a people. They are our past, present and future. You are always and everywhere our most important source of strength. She is always the vanguard and commander of our freedom struggle. It is very clear that over the past 50 years we have won everything in the name of freedom in Kurdistan based on the courage and sacrifice of our heroic Şehîds. We have always succeeded and won when we have walked in the lineage of the Şehîds. For this reason we have constantly formed and questioned ourselves in the lineage of the Şehîds and on this basis we have constantly corrected and renewed ourselves. We have entered the line of success.
THE BATTLE CANNOT BE ACHIEVED BY VOTING ONLY
No doubt that reality will always be like this from now on. As a movement and society, we will always educate and equip ourselves in the lineage of the Chairman and the Şehîd, and if we fight the enemy on this basis, we will achieve new and greater successes. Because the fascist, colonialist and genocidal enemy leaves us no other way. The results of the May 14 elections also challenge us to develop a continuous and much more effective struggle against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics. It shows that the fight against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics cannot be achieved only through elections; it is necessary to fight them with all possible methods and continuously. Of course we will act accordingly;
MORE EFFECTIVE AND VERSATILE COMBAT
On this basis, we as a movement and society, as friends of the Kurds, experience another month and day of the Şehîds. The conditions demand from us a more effective and multifaceted struggle against the fascist-genocidal mentality and politics. In order to be successful in such a struggle, we must understand and successfully apply the reality of the Chairman and the Şehîds more precisely than ever before. We must train and organize ourselves more in the line of the chairman and the Şehîd.
On this basis, we call on all party comrades, our welatparêze society and our democratic friends to renew themselves with a more self-critical questioning along the lines of the chairman and the Şehîds; to properly understand the reality of the heroic Şehîds, starting with comrade Haki Karer and ending with comrades Gulçîya, Hêjar and Dilxwaz; To organize events to commemorate and understand our heroic Şehîds in all areas throughout the month of May; to visit the cemeteries of our Şehîds and to get a better understanding of the reality of the Şehîds; We call on you to always walk in the line of the Şehîds, to defeat the fascist-genocidal enemy and build a free life based on women’s freedom in a free Kurdistan! “
