BEHDINAN – People’s Defense Center (NPG) Headquarters Command issued a written statement regarding the martyrdom of Leyla Sorxwîn, a member of the PKK Central Committee, HPG Command Council Member and Botan Field Commander.
HSM Headquarters Command said, “PKK Central Committee Member, HPG Command Council Member and Botan Field Commander, Comrade Leyla Sorxwîn, died in the clashes in Besta on 22-23 January. We express our condolences to the valuable family of our commander, who participated in the freedom struggle in the spring of his youth, who was full of high self-sacrifice and love of freedom, and who showed great courage and valor throughout her entire life of struggle, all the people of Amed and the patriotic people of Kurdistan. My condolences to all our guerrilla forces and all our comrades in every field, who continue their struggle for freedom in the Botan Mountains with great determination and heroism. We promise that we will keep his memory alive by flying the flag of victory that Comrade Leyla raised in Bakur Kurdistan and that we will not leave her blood on the ground.”
LEYLA Comrade Fought in Every Mix Land of BOTAN
“Our comrade Leyla, as she recognized the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle and the reality of Leader Apo, joined the guerrilla ranks without hesitation in her early youth. She has found meaning with and embodied in guerrillaism. She joined the guerrilla in Amed, but her guerrilla practice always took place in Botan, and she worked in Botan uninterruptedly from 1993 to 2000. In these years, when the colonialist genocidal Turkish state turned the guerrilla the hardest, and carried out numerous extermination campaigns and major operations, our comrade Leyla has become an Apoist militant who can withstand and overcome all difficult conditions and impossibilities, and knows how to strike the enemy under any circumstance. Comrade Leyla, who was cooked in harsh conditions and on the hot battlefield, took part in all areas of our guerrilla warfare with her activist character and dynamic personality. She was wounded in Cûdî in 1995 and in Beytüşşebap in 1999, but she continued her revolutionary march with greater faith and determination each time. She participated in numerous actions and revolutionary operations, especially the Kirya Reş and Hakkari actions, which are important actions in our history of armed struggle, and managed to strike a blow to the enemy by meeting countless enemy operations with great courage. She enthusiastically participated in the tactical initiatives developed for the victory of the guerrilla tactic, took her place in the mobile battalions in Botan and served as the commander. Comrade Leyla, with her unstoppable personality, could not stop and struggled on every inch of Botan’s land.
Comrade Leyla moved to the Medya Defense Zones in 2000, received training at the Mahsum Korkmaz Military Academy established on the mountain in 2001 and moved to the Kandil field. After staying in Kandil until 2003, she turned to Botan with great love and desire and moved to Gabar. She took part in the Gabar Command, became a relentless follower of the Egîd line with the scarcest means in the Gabar area, where the enemy had a great siege and attacked the guerrilla, participated in the 1 June 2004 Campaign at an active and pioneering level, and played a role in effective actions that made a great impression. After displaying an active and successful command in Gabar until 2007, she moved to Medya Defense Zones again, and was involved in training processes first at the Martyr Bêrîtan Academy and then at the PKK’s training center. Comrade Leyla, she has always considered himself worthy of the Leadership and Martyrs line, questioned his stance and practice on this basis, determined the criteria of criticism and self-criticism accordingly, and always considered himself indebted to the Martyrs and the Leader, no matter how successful his practice was. She remained in Zap, Zagros, Kandil and other areas from 2008 to 2018.

Comrade Leyla, with her high courage and active participation, took charge at every level of our guerrilla army, from combatant to squad commander, from team commander to company commander, to regional, province, field and dispatch-administration commander. Comrade Leyla, who works hard to achieve success in every mission, went to Botan Field in 2018 to lead the guerrilla of democratic modernity, to transform the perspective of restructuring into a line in Bakurê Kurdistan guerrillaism, to take over the flag of Comrade Delal Amed and to make the victory guerrilla a reality. They went to Botan together with Comrade Egîd Civyan, standing shoulder to shoulder and assuming the position of Botan Field Commander. The Turkish state mobilized all its power and every means at its disposal and turned to the guerrilla of Bakur Kurdistan. However, comrades Egîd Civyan and Leyla Sorxwîn, with their competent command, deepening concentration in the victorious guerrilla, high sacrifices and great efforts, failed the plans of the enemy and left their purpose behind. After the martyrdom of Comrade Egîd, our comrade Leyla joined more, worked harder and tried to fill the place of Comrade Egîd to be worthy of the martyrs.
Comrade Leyla has become a comrade known for her simple personality, modest participation, self-sacrifice and high determination. She continued her revolutionary march, which she started at a young age, for decades and in the most difficult areas without hesitation, and became one of our pioneer commanders who took responsibility and successfully fulfilled it in the most difficult times. Comrade Leyla, an irreplaceable revolutionary and commander, has been the concrete proof of how much the Apoist ideology can develop a person and especially the Kurdish woman. Although Comrade Leyla only studied at the primary school level, we had a life master, a wise intellectual, a brave commander and a commander who managed to reach the truth of free women in the Apoist ideology and philosophy school. From commanding a single time to commanding and managing thousands of warriors, she has achieved a high level of capability and command.
No matter how proud his precious family and patriotic people of Amed are with Comrade Leyla, who raised such a brave and distinguished son from their bosom. We had the chance to have spent her whole life walking along the line of heroism, like Comrade Leyla, with a beautiful, distinguished comrade, to fight shoulder to shoulder with her, to fight under her command, and to have such a commander. As the successors of the valiant commander Leyla, we promise to be the best followers and companions of Leylas in our sacred cause of freedom, on the basis of keeping her memory alive and making her dreams come true. Comrade Leyla will always live in our Free Leadership and Free Kurdistan march, her self-sacrificing spirit and high courage will be the main source of strength for the victory guerrilla and will carry our struggle to higher success.
