NEWS CENTER – Şehîd Delal Şoreş, the charismatic guerrilla friend from Silêmanî, who captivated everyone with her charming smile and her determined statements. Who was this young friend who was so obsessed with going to war? Who was this freedom fighter who, like Heval Berfîn Rêbaz, joined Gerîla in southern Kurdistan and turned her ranks to the free mountains?
We spent a summer together, almost half a year. We worked together, marched together, argued, discussed, laughed, fooled around and danced. Hevala Delal, a friend who caught the attention of friends with her warmth, determination and courage. A friend who braved difficult conditions and circumstances and never lost her smile. Truly a commander, a leader, one who always encouraged friends, who worked to help friends overcome their weaknesses, who shared knowledge and wholeheartedly engaged in discussions. A friend who always had a joke on her lips, knew how to defend herself and never shied away from doing and leading the way.
Hevala Delal, a friend from Silêmanî, in southern Kurdistan. Silêmanî is known for its knowledge, for its academics, for its philosophers. And yes, even if Hevala Delal did not complete her studies, but instead devoted herself to philosophy and the study of Rêber APO and went to the open mountains, she was a true philosopher. A philosopher of life who lived a philosophy that she espoused, she represented it in her life, thinking, feeling and acting. What she represented, she represented with everything she had and was.
When it came to fighting, she was always on fire. She loved her weapon and was determined to the end to fight with this weapon against the enemy, the Turkish occupiers. She was a true fighter in life, as in war, who with high morale, against all odds, looked the enemy in the eye and said: “Come on, we’re already waiting for you!” She had a big heart, closed each one girlfriend and every friend quickly and tried to build up a cordial, warm and sincere Hevaltî with everyone. She made no distinctions. Whoever it was, she was warm, friendly, helpful, and most importantly, incredibly sociable. Although she had only one brother in her family and was the only daughter, there was not a moment that I can remember when Hevala Delal was alone, or wanted to be alone. She always threw herself into the thick of things, taking an active part and sometimes leading the way when she felt it necessary. She was a leader, that quickly became clear. She cast a spell over her friends, was loved and appreciated by everyone. But what was important to her were not only the values of communal life, the sincere Hevaltî, the fight was also important to her. The armed struggle against the enemy. Whatever happened, their goal was to go to war, to go to the units that were in the active war against fight the enemy. Her heart burned for it, her eyes shone for it.
Source of morale and liveliness, for a long time she was active in the youth movement, did press work, interviewed guerrillas, moderated, attended training courses, helped new fighters, worked, made plans, discussed, but if you asked her what her goal was, you always got the same answer. She took her name from the great YJA Star commander Şehîd Delal Amed. With her connection, she took over the arms of this great and valuable commander and was determined to take revenge for Hevala Delal and the many other Şehîds of the revolution in Kurdistan. But not only that, the women’s struggle for freedom was also very important to her. If she recognized weaknesses and mistakes in this context, she made sure that these were quickly overcome with her commitment and her solution-oriented way of thinking.
She had a real rage when she realized that mistakes were made in this framework and weaknesses were shown. Even if she tried to have good Hevaltî with her male friends, she never forgot her loyalty to her female comrades, always stood behind them, encouraged and supported them. With her hearty laugh, she managed to make everyone laugh in every situation. Because her laugh came from the heart, like everything she did and said. It was nothing fake, nothing learned by heart. During her time in the party, she managed to strengthen her natural qualities, to become a natural person, a revolutionary on the way to being a free woman in Rêber APO’s sense.
It’s certainly difficult to imagine from Europe what Hevala Delal was like and what it’s like to fight this battle. Certain things just can’t really be explained, no matter how many words are used. There are certain things that you have to live and see for yourself in order to really understand the meaning of it and to give it the necessary value. Fighter and friend, revolutionary, creator of life, source of morality and vitality, with deep anger and hatred and that’s why always right in the middle, never apart – a friend who understood that the source of our life is Hevaltî. Hevaltî is above everything. Where Hevaltî is weakened, the struggle is weakened, the strength and power of our movement, our ideology. Living true Hevaltî is not easy. It asks you to take yourself back and give in exchange for sacrificing yourself for others. As much work and effort as you put into true Hevaltî, you also create a strong foundation for faith and struggle. Hevala Delal understood that and prioritized supporting the friends.
Hevala Delal is a role model for young women in her consistent attitude. What she believed in, her hatred and anger towards the enemy and the patriarchy ran deep. Now it’s our turn to return Hevala Delal’s Hevaltî and raise her weapon.
