NEWS CENTER – On April 21, 1856, Australian workers protested for 8 hours of work, when they were working 12 to 14 hours. When the workers realized that their actions brought results, all year on that day they held demonstrations to fulfill their wishes. This became a culture and spread to other countries. With the development of industry, employment increased, so the worker worked 10 to 16 hours a day for one dollar and 50 cents. There were no health conditions of employment. There was no health of the workers. They approached the workers in an inhuman way.
In 1866, the International Workingmen’s Association defined the working time of workers as 8 hours and stated that the legal limit of daily working time is a prerequisite. On May 1, 1886, more than 340,000 workers quit their jobs and declared a strike in America. A few days later, on May 4, the police attacked the workers in the city of Haymarket and many workers lost their lives. On the 1st of May, from that time until now, on this day, workers across the world take to the fields and demand their rights through actions. Even now, in many countries, workers are attacked and bribed. May 1st has been recognized as International Labor Day, and in 132 countries around the world, this day has been officially recognized as a day of rest. The Kurdistan Workers’ Party was founded on the meaning of work and the values of workers.
PKK is a worker’s movement
