BEHDÎNAN – YJA Star Central Command released the identities of guerrilla fighters Gulçiya Gabar and Pelşîn Newroz in a written statement and stated the following about the fallen guerrilla fighters:
“Our comrade Gulçiya Gabar and comrade Pelşîn Newroz, the brave commanders of our society, with a noble person and simple and free women, members of the Council of the HPG and the Central Command of the YJA Star, are in an attack in the Çemankê area on April 29, 2019 fallen in the Garê region. This attack was carried out on the basis of denouncing local collaborators and their cooperation with the enemy. Our great commander Comrade Gulçiya, who devoted her whole life to the free life of our society and Kurdish women, after getting to know the free life with the apoist ideology, unfortunately has the martyrdom of the denunciation of the local collaborators to the colonialist genocidal Turkish state reached. On behalf of the YJA Star Central Command, we express our condolences to the welatparêzen society of Kurdistan, especially the welatparêzen society of Mêrdîn, which sacrificed many of their children for this honorable cause, and to the esteemed Aydın and Orçun families for the martyrdom of our great commanders Gulçiya Gabar and the Comrade Pelşîn out. Our brave commander Gulçiya Gabar grew up in a welatparêzen family culture in Midyad, where many cultures, religions, languages and societies live together with love in Mêrdîn, a city of women with a deep-rooted tradition of welatparêzî and resistance, and joined with theirs in 1992 Childhood friends join the ranks of freedom. Comrade Gulçiya distinguished herself in the struggle with her leadership qualities. She always took responsibility in the most difficult and critical times and areas. Gulçiya, who most recently served in our Central Headquarters, combined her military leadership skills with ideological and organizational knowledge in a strong manner. Our comrade Gulçiya, who joined the struggle at a young age, has won the love, respect and trust of all comrades with her work and development.
In Gulçiya Gabar’s reality, success is a fundamental approach that needs to be intensified through work and awareness. She has an approach that tries to bring in every talent and energy she has. Our commander and comrade Gulçiya stands for carelessly embracing the leadership, the party and the struggle and devoting ourselves to this struggle as a whole.
She had an approach that tackled everything from the smallest practical work to military-tactical-organizational problems that everyone found difficult to solve, educating herself, not limiting the level achieved to herself, her hevals to partners and made partners and tried to educate and discipline the women. One of her most important characteristics was that she did not submit to either male dominance or female traditionalism. She didn’t turn a blind eye to the shortcomings, but showed her reaction and attitude in a nonchalant manner.
Our brave commander did not limit herself to the current problems, but she never put off solving these problems and managed to be the answer at the right moment. As a fighter and commander, she never accepted mediocrity. With her life, relationships, style and personality, she resembled no one. She was something very special, an outstanding human beauty with her own unique simplicity. She was the rose of the mountains, like her name. Looking at Gulchiya, one could concretely and clearly see the answer to the question of who a free woman is and how she lives. Freedom had become a character in her. She didn’t give her soul to this system and managed to be “xwebûn”. She had a unity of thought, speech and action. Gulçiya Gabar lived like this, as she said, and spoke as she lived. It had evolved in many ways, militarily and ideologically. However, the most outstanding aspect of Comrade Gulçiya was her development in human relationships, in changing and influencing people. When it comes to Gulçiya, stubbornness, pride and fighting spirit also come to mind. Her stubbornness and sense of freedom were very strong. The pride and tenacity of being a PKK and PAJK fighter was reflected in her face, her eyes and her life. Her struggle, her struggle for the truth she knew and believed in and the reflection of what the love of freedom in her mind and heart generated so powerfully in her life and personality made her an amazing figure. What made her so appealing was that she was so connected to the reality of the chairman and the party. Her simplicity and her authoritarianism, but also her subtle humor, her childlike and natural rosy smile, her practical skills, her responsibility to educate herself, her discipline, her ability to share with people were the projections of her character that reflected in life. Comrade Gulçiya Gabar taught many of her comrades to love the mountains, the land and the guerrillas. We learned from her how beautiful and happy it is to live as a woman in the mountains. She taught us all with her life and personality that the guerrilla is a philosophy of life, a character of life with its difficulties and beauties. In the early years of her involvement in the struggle, she was separated from her friends for days after a conflict, but with her perseverance and great willpower, she managed to achieve her hevals. As a poet said, she was hungry, thirsty, but her love did not leave her. She was a heart in love with the Chairman, her country, the mountains, the guerrillas and their hevals.
Heval Gulçiya was a free woman who transcended her own limits. She was a brave commander, not lost when she pushed her limits and not lost when she saw the Force. She participated at every level, from troop command to central headquarters command. Under all circumstances, she never lost her simplicity, modesty and personality. She cultivated within herself the natural measure of love and the attraction of freedom and taught them to us. Every word, every sentence that passed her lips was distilled from pain, hardness, the most beautiful parts and life and gained meaning. For them, the revolutionary stance was a way of life, a choice, not an obligation. As she fitted into the Chairman’s reality, she became even more beautiful, gained importance and gave meaning to her life. Her heart was beautiful, her spirit free, her smile sincere and her gaze deep.
The life of our honorable and rebellious commander, connected with work, has a content that could be the subject of dozens of novels.
What makes Comrade Gulçiya so resilient is that in organizing her life and practice, she has determined life with the Chairman as the fundamental principle. Comrade Gulçiya, who worked steadily twenty-four hours a day, pouring her energy and connecting her surroundings to life, has embodied the principles of Hevaltî with the Chairman in her own life. What made her so resilient in battle, so strong-willed in the face of adversity, and so brave in the face of the enemy, was her belief that one day, no matter what, she would see the Chairman. Comrade Gulçiya went to see the Chairman, but the international conspiracy resulted in our Chairman’s physical imprisonment.
Throughout her life of struggle, our brave and courageous commander, Comrade Gulçiya, has taken as a basis the clarity and sharpness of the apoist line in every field and work she has engaged in, and the development and efforts on this basis as one principle of the revolutionary attitude. She embodied ideological depth in her personality, work in his life and success in her struggle and became a role model for all her comrades. As one of the pioneers of our freedom movement and one of the leading commanders of our women’s army, she left an unforgettable mark on the history of our struggle. Our comrade Pelşîn Newroz, who fell together with comrade Gulçiya Şehîd, grew up with the welatparêzen culture of Mêrdîn, got to know the philosophy of the chairman and the freedom struggle and connected this culture with revolutionary feelings. Affected by the resistance in Kobanê and Rojava, comrade Pelşîn, like many Kurdish youth, turned to the struggle and joined the freedom struggle in 2015.
