NEWS CENTER – The fourth of the series of conferences organized with the motto “Challenging Capitalist Modernity” ended with the discussions on art on the second day. On the second day of the series of conferences titled “We Want Our World Back”, “Resist, Take Back and Rebuild”, “Educate and Organize Autonomously”, moderated by Host Targol Mesbah, “How art can help revolutionary movements and struggles today”, “Art is a freedom science is it?”
Palestinian artist Ayreen Anastas, Iranian artist Rene Gabri and Dutch activist student David Neurdenburg attended the panel as speakers.
Dutch Activist David Neurdenburg, who took the first floor, made evaluations on the importance of archeology and said, “The sovereign powers who want to erase the history of Kurdistan have worked with state-supported archaeologists. Especially in Kurdistan, many historical artifacts were either destroyed or abducted. In this way, the legacy of Kurds and Yazidis was tried to be erased from history. In Rojava, a private Archaeological Museum was established after the revolution. Especially ISIS has done great damage to historical monuments in Syria,” he said.
Speaking at the back, Rene Gabri said that they learned things in the fields of struggle that all art history books cannot teach and said, “Art is not just a field produced by professionals for us. It is a field where struggle and life are shaped. By restricting art, they have deprived people of their basic freedoms. All branches of art carry the characteristics of the life of our ancestors, and therefore art is for all of us.”
The panel ended after questions and answers.
