NEWS CENTER – On Saturday, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan issued a statement about the attack on the vicinity of Sulaymaniyah International Airport, yesterday evening.
The text of the statement read:
“An intelligence and espionage plot executed in advance led to the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport, equivalent to sending an occupying force into the Kurdistan Region. Hence, we strongly condemn this attack. We expected the relevant authorities to act, investigate, and shun this crime rather than blindly justifying it, but, as in the past, a self-imposed minority within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), who have special and secrete connections, have become guides for using the government’s institutions in service of other countries’ intelligence agencies to undermine the security of the Kurdistan Region and Sulaymaniyah Province.
The PUK has consistently strived to cooperate, coordinate, and establish good relations with other regions of Kurdistan based on preserving national interests. The PUK believes in the unity of the Kurdish people and political parties.”
Mazloum Abdi, posted on his official Twitter page:
“We strongly condemn the targeting of Sulaymaniyah Airport by Turkey. These violations continue in Iraq and Syria and have dangerous dimensions against the region. The position of the National Patriotic Union in support of its brothers in Syria is disturbing Turkey. We will continue our principled relations with our brothers and allies in Sulaymaniyah, and we are united against these violations.”
Statement from Iraqi President Latif Rashid
Iraqi President Latif Rashid called on the Turkish government to apologize for the attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport and the ongoing military operations and said: “This attack, the attacks of the Turkish state against Iraq and the sovereignty of Iraq has opened a violation. There is no legal basis for the Turkish state to attack civilians because of the presence of opposition forces in Iraq. If the attacks continue, a serious attitude will be shown.”
The Iraqi presidency said in a statement that Turkey has no legal justification to “continue its approach of intimidating civilians under the pretext that forces hostile to it are present on Iraqi soil.”
