NEWS CENTER – PKK Executive Committee Member Duran Kalkan answered questions about the agenda in Medya Haber TV’s ‘Special Program’. Kalkan’s evaluations are as follows:
A HISTORICAL STRUGGLE IS LIVING IN IMRALI
First of all, I respectfully greet the historical Imrali resistance and Leader Apo. We are always evaluating, discussing, and need to discuss the isolation agenda. We need to understand not only the discussion, but also the Imrali torture and genocide system, as well as the isolation imposed for 25 years. Accordingly, we need to develop the right attitude and struggle. Nothing out of the ordinary happens there. It is a very important situation that concerns not only the Kurds, but also all oppressed peoples, especially the oppressed, women and workers. There is a historical struggle going on. Isolation is implemented on this basis. That system has already been established on this basis. There is nothing new about the isolation. Nothing changed. The political agenda in Turkey is changing, elections are happening, war is happening, this is happening, this is happening. Whether these really change is debatable. These are happening, but is there a change in the political agenda? Can these really be called a different political agenda? We think it should be controversial. Real politics does not change. There is no change in the Imrali system of torture, isolation and genocide. In fact, this is what determines politics in Turkey.
Now it is said that there is a choice. Again there is no change. There was a matter of CPT going to Imrali, which has been discussed since September. Finally, the CPT announced that it prepared its report and sent it to the Turkish administration in March. This is the last statement we can call the isolation, the Imrali torture and genocide system, but there is no content in this report. There is no information about what is included and what is not. Here we sent it, says the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, the rest belongs to the Turkish state. In other words, to the AKP-MHP fascist government. In other words, this isolation belongs to those who implement the system of oppression and genocide in Imrali. The rest, whether they publish it or not, whether they give correct information about its content, is up to them, they say.
CPT’S ATTITUDE IS NOT CORRECT
It’s an interesting situation. People really don’t know what to say. Indeed, it is like entrusting the liver to the cat. They are the ones applying isolation, they are the ones running this system. If the CPT made decisions regarding the torture situation in Imrali during its visit to Turkey, there is no point in telling this to the AKP-MHP fascist dictatorship and the Turkish state. They already do. Those who do probably know. What does it mean to say you are doing this? They’re already doing it on purpose.
It’s called our rule, but we don’t understand anything from this rule. This has nothing to do with freedom and democracy and cannot be seen as a rule even with a normal mind. If there is to be a decision about the practices of the Turkish state and AKP-MHP government in Imrali, it should at least be explained by the CPT. It needs to be printed, it has to be sent to other institutions. He sends it to the doer as if he doesn’t know about it, he says whatever you do is free on it. You will. He is the one who applies the torture, he is the one who applies the isolation. It doesn’t do anything. He’ll take it off and put it on the shelf.
COLLABORATE SYSTEM
There is no rule like that, it doesn’t make any sense. Therefore, the CPT made such a statement in order to get rid of the pressure caused by the actions of the Kurdish people and their friends, but it did not get rid of this pressure. There’s a freak. It looks like it’s doing something, it’s not actually being done. There is a deception, there is a trick involved. This has to be seen. He betrayed himself more. It shouldn’t be like this. We can’t say anything like that. So it looks like this; The Imrali system is a cooperative system. Isolation, torture and the Imrali system have been carried out together for 25 years. This absolute isolation has been carried out jointly for more than 2 years. We don’t know if they criticize each other a bit. Even if they criticize, it is within themselves. Nobody knows. Therefore, it is a fruitless attempt.
However, they should be exposed. This is called the legal system. The so-called democratic rule of law. This has nothing to do with democracy. There can be no such law. This actually gives the torturer all kinds of power. There is no right here for the oppressed, the oppressed. It seems that there is a so-called right, but in fact, there is a committee that legitimizes torture and cannot say anything to the torturers. So, how will this committee prevent torture if the torturer does not say anything? That’s the truth of the matter. You have to stay on it. You shouldn’t leave it like this. This Imrali situation reveals not only the situation of the Turkish state, but also the European democracy and law. There is a unity, and we must dwell on it. We should not give up the legal struggle, but the main thing is the natural ideological and political struggle. Actions are evolving. There have been important initiatives during this period as well. All over the world, the Kurdish people, their friends, revolutionary democratic forces and intellectuals stand and march for Leader Apo’s freedom. In other words, there is an attitude of support and unity of action for Leader Apo, who spread all over the world from Amara. Here, the April 4th celebrations were indeed very strong and effective.
LEADING APO HAS BROKEN THE INSULATION
These actions revealed how the society, the Kurdish people and democratic circles were integrated with Leader Apo. Then, a day or two later, an important conference was held in Hamburg where the theses of Leader Apo were discussed, under the name of “challenging capitalist modernity”. Undoubtedly, the thought that challenges capitalism and modernity is the theory of democratic modernity. Leader Apo developed this. They discussed it.
There were very important and serious discussions with the world’s intellectuals, democratic revolutionary forces and liberal democratic circles. So, although the AKP-MHP fascism tried to impose an unprecedented isolation with the support of the CPT, Europe and NATO, Leader Apo broke this isolation. The walls of Imrali were shattered. He conveyed his thoughts to women, young people, workers and laborers, and all oppressed people all over the world. This is an obvious fact.
Support for Leader Apo is growing like an avalanche and spreading all over the world. Understanding, adopting, assimilating, integrating with Leader Apo’s thoughts and theses, working to put them into practice is growing like an avalanche, spreading all over the world. This includes all the oppressed, especially women. That’s the point, that’s the main thing. This is what will overthrow the Imrali torture and isolation system. This has happened in a much more comprehensive way on the occasion of Leader Apo’s birthday. It will also happen in the future. In fact, it is this struggle that determines politics and will have lasting results. This struggle will overthrow the Imrali torture and isolation system, break the walls of Imrali, destroy fascism, make Turkey democratic and Kurdistan free. Thus, it will make the most important contribution in history to the freedom march of humanity.
THE FIGHT IS ON THE BUNGER LINE
These are historical days. In fact, the freedom march that developed under the leadership of the 50-year-old Leader Apo has turned every day of the year into a day full of heroic acts, as well as revealing the most important heroes of history. That’s very important. We call March the Month of Heroism; May is the month of martyrs; June, the month of sacrifice; July is national pride month. August is already August 15, November 27 is the month of resurrection, re-establishment. Every day of this month, the struggle full of heroism continues. This struggle is in the line of the sacrifice, carried out with a heroic level of courage and self-sacrifice. It both makes the historical heroic stance of the Kurdish people more sublime and meaningful, and also makes it massive. It brings out the heroism of the people. This is a process that started with Comrade Haki Karer and continued until today.
Here, the martyrdom of Comrade Fazıl Botan, the valiant son of Botan, the leading commander of ARGK and HPG, and a member of our party’s Central Committee, has been announced. Again, the martyrdom of Cemal Amed, the valiant son of the people of Lice, the people of Amed, was announced. He also comes from a very patriotic family. He comes from a family with many martyrs, from a struggling social background. They also make invaluable contributions to our struggle for freedom. On this basis, I primarily commemorate the great commanders of ARGK and HPG, Fazıl Botan and comrades Cemal Amed, and all our martyrs with respect and gratitude.
THE LEADING MILITAN OF THE HERO GENERATION
Our Central Headquarters made a statement for Fazil friend. It was very important, it was meaningful. Valuable commemorations were made, discussions took place. Indeed, the youth of Botan has produced such a heroic generation since the mid-1980s. Who has not come? From Ahmet Reports to Kerim Şırnak, From fair friend to Reşit friend to Fazil friend; Indeed, valuable commanders who made valuable contributions to dozens of such struggles and left their mark on history emerged. The Apoist idea of freedom made Botan’s people, women and men patriotic again, and made them heroes again. He brought a new emotion, spirit, thought to a living level. HE WAS A FRIEND THAT DEVOTED EVERYTHING
We have known Fazil friend for a long time. We are especially familiar with the struggle against this liquidationist thing, the Imrali torture and isolation system, the struggle against the conspiracy, the restructuring of the guerrilla on the basis of the democratic modernity paradigm. So he was definitely not an ordinary person. On the contrary, he was a friend of ours who was locked in freedom with all his might and energy, devoted himself to the freedom struggle and war, and devoted everything to it. He pursued the enemy on this basis. It was on this basis that he concentrated on style and tactics. He first took good care of his comrades and our young friends on this basis in his relations.
HE WAS THE COMMANDER OF THE ZAP RESISTANCE
Of course, it is rare to find a commander who is as interested in his surroundings, focuses on the details, and concentrates on the 24-hour war as much as Fazıl’s friend. As a result of all this, he became the owner of a practice that pioneered the development of the war style we call today’s team tunnel coordinated warfare, made the first trials of this and won victory in the Zap war in February 2008. He was the commander of the Zap Resistance. He was the commander who enabled the Turkish army to suffer the biggest defeat in its history in Zap. Comrade Fazil led the way. He dwelled on the details. He didn’t bother with anything else. He gave all his strength and energy to this struggle for freedom. It is necessary to understand correctly the characteristics of Fazil friend. The Botan youth should understand the Kurdish youth well. It should be even more versatile and deep on it. EVERY MONTH, EVERY DAY IS A HERO
The 50-year march for freedom has made every day a day of heroic acts. He made every bear a hero month. It’s like that every day of April. We stand on some names as symbols, but they represent all the martyrs of this 50-year heroic struggle. They represent the labor of the people. That’s what we need to understand. For example, we have martyrs every day. Dozens as well. Here we are in mid-April. We also gave important martyrs in mid-April. I think it was April 15 or 16; Hozan Sefkan and a group of friends were martyred in Heftanîn. They became our first martyrs in Heftanîn. They fell victim to a provocation. They were engaged in organizing conspiracies against the development of freedom thought and action against the PKK in Bakur. These provocations were developed while fighting them.

In other words, Comrade St. Arab… April 17, if I remember correctly, is also the day of martyrdom of your dear friend. He was the pioneer of Arab society. He came from Syria and Lebanon. He fought in the mountains of Kurdistan, in Botan, without any hesitation. He fought heroically. Now hundreds and thousands of Arab youth are following in the footsteps of Comrade Aziz.
We had hundreds of martyrs, men and women. Kurdish-Arab friendship has been consolidated at the highest level on the basis of freedom and brotherhood. This is the reality created in North-East Syria. He pioneered all this. There is now an academy in memory of the dear comrade. Arab youth are studying in this academy. They acquire a consciousness of freedom, of brotherhood, they learn about war. They are fighting for a free life against this power and state system on the basis of brotherhood with the Kurds and other peoples. So it was a historical development. I commemorate these comrades Hozan Sefkan and his group with respect and gratitude on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Comrade Aziz. We have kept their memories alive in our struggle for freedom, and we keep them alive. The PKK created this much development in memory of these martyrs. From now on, it will continue on this basis and these memories will always be kept alive in great victories.
WE IMPLEMENT THE DECISION OF INACTION
After the heavy earthquakes on February 6, our administration declared inaction. It was on this basis that he wanted to take the step to strengthen the ground and the possibility of bandaging the wounds of the people who were damaged in the earthquake. He made such an attempt. Afterwards, despite all kinds of aggression by AKP-MHP fascism, it decided to maintain this state of inaction until the elections in order not to become a party to the provocations in this process due to the election process it entered. Our administration has publicly announced this. This process continues on our side. We act in accordance with the decisions we make and the statements we make. The guerrilla does not take action unless there is an attack on the guerrilla. If there is an attack, if it is wanted to be destroyed, it defends itself. This is true for all forces of freedom. Especially in terms of cities, our administration made a more concrete call. This is the situation on our side now. The war cannot be stopped with a unilateral ceasefire and unilateral inaction. Both the war and the ceasefire must be two-sided. Leader Apo declared countless unilateral ceasefires in the past period. So why didn’t he get an answer? AKP-MHP POWER IS ATTACKING EVERY DAY
It is not limited to these. They attacked Sulaymaniyah, they are attacking Shengal, they are attacking Rojava every day. They shoot civilians every night. Not so armed forces. All Kurds have declared everyone who has relations with the Kurds and cooperates on the basis of freedom as their enemy and they are attacking on this basis. HPG Press Center announces daily results. There is nothing on our side, but the AKP-MHP fascism continues its attacks. They never stopped their attack. They even see this situation as a weakness and want to take advantage of it. They also make up an excuse to strike and weaken the guerrilla further.
Let me tell you this; I mean, some of them were arguing recently. They make up that a ceasefire or inaction is an excuse, that the PKK is doing this as a game to attack more, that it is guerrilla. Why would he do that if he was going to attack? There is already open war, action is being taken, and it explains the results. Did he do anything wrong with it? Are there any shortcomings in the daily balance sheets? It hasn’t happened so far. Why would the PKK need this? They say it’s like looking for a calf under an ox. They betray their own intentions in this way. What kind of aggression are they in, how do they resort to all kinds of provocations and conspiracies; this is seen. This is an important situation. This needs to be evaluated and understood. Indeed, attacks continue in Zap, Avaşîn, Metîna, Xakurkê and Heftanîn. There are balance sheets every day. Planes are hitting reconnaissance planes shoot, helicopters shoot, they shoot cannons, they shoot with tanks. Of course, when the guerrilla has to defend itself, it engages in defensive clashes. It defends itself where it deems necessary. But the Turkish state does not stop, everyone should know this.
On the other hand, three comrades were martyred as a result of attacks not only against Medya Defense Zones, but also at the foot of Cîlo Mountain in Gever. There was a conflict in Omeryan, two guerrillas were called. Then it turned out that someone is a civil patriot from the people. We need to see these. I commemorate the comrades who were martyred in these enemy attacks with respect, love and gratitude. Here on the outskirts of Cîlo, friends Raperîn, Botan and Rêvan were martyred. DID NOT Occupy for ONE YEAR
And here’s something to consider. In previous years, there were attacks on Medya Defense Zones. But we are also living the anniversary of the process in which the AKP-MHP fascist dictatorship launched an invasion attack to the depths of Zap, Avaşîn and Metina with the aim of occupying them completely. We need to see it too. Airstrikes began on 14 April. On 17 April the ground attacks began. It’s been a year. Despite attacking for a year using chemical weapons, tactical nuclear weapons, phosphorus bombs, all kinds of forbidden bombs, all kinds of techniques, with the support of everyone from NATO to Russia, it could not invade these areas. He failed to achieve his goal of crushing the guerrilla. Guerrilla gave one of the most meaningful resistances in history here. It broke the invasion attacks, prevented the success of the enemy. AKP-MHP invaded Rojava after Zap in a short time, therefore, he dreamed of crushing the PKK and completing the Kurdish genocide and entering the elections, which were said to be held a month later, with a great victory. Now all her dreams are shattered. They cannot do such a thing. This was revealed by the great guerrilla resistance. We saw this; In this one-year resistance, what is really decisive in the war is the commitment, sacrifice, courage and self-sacrifice of those who fight. It is creativity, mastery, heroism. In Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna, the Apoist spirit of resistance and victory, the spirit of sacrifice, fought and resisted. In such an environment of inequality, an aggressive power that had all kinds of possibilities did not pass. This is very, very important, very meaningful. We need to see this too. EVERYONE SHOULD ASSUME SOME RESPONSIBILITY
It is necessary to see and understand the aggression of AKP-MHP fascism in the face of the inaction declared after the 6 February earthquakes. In this context, everyone should take on some responsibility. In fact, partial explanations came from some circles, but they are weak. We still think there should be stronger attitudes. This is true in terms of internal environments as well as external environments. No one should think that this war happened because it could not be fought, that different attitudes will not develop. No, those who think so are mistaken. This has nothing to do with power. Those fascist chiefs are making statements that we hit like this, broke them like that, weakened them. It seems to us that some people believe this. It has nothing to do with weight loss. Even a Kurdish youth has the power to defeat an army, a unit. Didn’t the Zîlans do this? Didn’t the Zinars do this? Did not the Saras and Rukens do this? Everyone has done it, everyone does. That’s why no one should ever misunderstand or miscalculate the guerrilla. In this respect, due to a great moral and conscientious approach, the inaction decision taken by our administration should not be misunderstood. This puts everyone’s responsibility. SULAIMANIA ATTACK MULTIPLE WAY

We were always hearing and feeling this from the statements of the MIT delegation in Oslo. They expect when we will die. So they threatened us with it. Your government is old, cannot live long, you will die. No one seems to be continuing this fight. I want to say this. They are attacking for the destruction of the Kurdish will for freedom. They establish a policy on the destruction and death.
HE SAYS I WILL KILL THE KURDS
On the other hand, they do so openly. Here they have created lists, red list, yellow list, green list, gray list. They put 30-40 names and pictures on each list. In this sense, all of our administration, PKK administration, KCK, HPG, PAJK, Komalen Ciwan administration, KJK administration, and our administrators in parts of Kurdistan are on these lists. All of them are on the death lists. For this reason, such bounty hunters were formed and death squads were established. Such attacks happen. So now there is no example in the world. Yes, there is a wanted list, but the only state that publishes the list to be killed is the Turkish state. AKP-MHP is a fascist dictatorship. He does this against the Kurds. He says he will kill the Kurds. No one else is making a sound. No one in the world, who says I am a democrat and a libertarian, says I am the United Nations. Everyone turns a blind eye to this situation openly. If this is not terrorism, what else could it be? Don’t those who do not make a sound against this do not become a partner in terrorism? There was an attack on the SDF General Commander. He already explained that this is not the first attack. “How many times have I been subjected to similar attacks, they have all been unsuccessful,” he said. They’ve done it in the past, it has some effect. They calculate: If we shoot some of the PKK administration, Kurds, prominent Kurds, we will get votes from racist, chauvinist, fascist, nationalist and Turkist circles in Turkey, we will combine these votes, and we will win the election. Today, Tayyip Erdoğan’s election propaganda is completely based on this. The method he determined in the presidential election is the massacre of the Kurds. It is the murder of PKK administrators, Kurds fighting for freedom. Is that possible? Everyone should see this.
NO ONE CAN SEE THIS NORMAL
Seeing this as such a normal situation shows us what kind of a world this world is. Nobody can see normally. We cannot say: We also failed the attacks, here it was unsuccessful. NO TERROR, THERE IS THE KURDISH GENOCIDE
We made some explanations about the elections. AKP-MHP’s televisions broke the apocalypse by tweezing and turning them upside down a bit. Wow, they talk politics, wow, they express their opinions on the election, they interfere in the election. Now it’s a strange situation. They are mobilizing all Turkey’s means to destroy us. We have never seen anyone in this world who does this as much as Tayyip Erdoğan. Indeed, there is love for so much of the theft, but why can he do this? Is he very skilled? Not like that. Opponents are very weak. They don’t even have the power to defend themselves. An anchored terror is this, this, this. There is no terrorism, there is injustice, there is attack, there is inequality, there is the Kurdish genocide, the Kurds are ignored, they want to be destroyed. There are close to 30 million Kurds, maybe more, within the borders of the Turkish Republic. They have no identity, no name, no name, There is no language, no Kurds, says Tayyip Erdogan. He says that the existing one will be killed, so he decides. Anyone who says I am a Kurd enters either the dungeon or the grave. He doesn’t know anything else.

I call on the Kurdish people, women, youth, workers and laborers, all peoples of Turkey, and the oppressed. Let them vote for the democratic candidates. In other words, they should make overthrowing the AKP-MHP fascism their main agenda. In particular, they should vote more for liberal and democratic women. This is our attitude. This is our call to everyone who is on our side and listens to us.
AKP-MHP fascism is in a situation that cannot be lifted any longer. This really needs to be thrown into the dustbin of history. You have to bury it in history. So think again, a little more that AKP-MHP will be the administration. What remains to be held in Turkey? Nothing remains in the name of humanity, in the name of freedom, in the name of democracy, in the name of fraternity. This is really important. When you look at the ideological political line, the basic line, the century is a whole, nothing changes. What is all? fascist, colonialist, genocidal mentality and politics. It has existed from the founding of this state to the present day. It was taken over from the Committee of Union and Progress. It was founded on hostility to the Kurds, it was founded on the Kurdish genocide. This is how the century passed. Its foundation on the Kurdish genocide did not make Turkey democratic, libertarian, respectful to human rights, despotic. He was a military dictatorship, a fascist dictatorship from time to time. THIS POWER SHOULD BE DESTROYED
This is how the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians were approached, not just anti-Kurdish. He created the leaven of this state with a genocidal mentality. It formed the main ideological political line. This election means laying the foundations of a new century at the end of such a century, at the beginning of the second century, which is also important in this respect. What will Türkiye look like in the second century, and it will respond to this a little bit. In other words, will politics continue with an anti-Kurdish, anti-women, anti-Alawite, anti-worker, anti-people, anti-people mentality through the AKP-MHP’s hand? Or will they be overcome, demolished, and a libertarian, democratic system based on brotherhood will be established? Will a democratic, pluralistic, fraternal Turkey be established based on Kurdish freedom, women’s freedom, freedom of belief, freedom of thought, labor and freedom? Will such a Turkey be established as a society, as a government, as a system? A little step will be taken. For this, Turkey needs to be restructured. That’s very clear.
ELECTION IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE STRUGGLE
We should not attribute everything to the election, but the election is also an important part of the struggle in this process. It is clear that this is a great revolutionary struggle. Election is also an important tool of change and transformation in this revolutionary struggle. With the election, something will become clear. Everyone here should give right, evaluate correctly. The people of Turkey should see this truth. It should be approached accordingly. This past must be overcome. There must be change; In other words, hostility to Kurds must be destroyed, hostility to women must be destroyed, to be overcome, hostility to Alevis must be overcome, hostility to workers and workers must be overcome, hostility to peoples must be overcome, and a development must emerge that will overcome them. We are waging a revolutionary struggle, but this election can be a very powerful turning point and an important link in such a revolutionary change. It can initiate the process that will make Turkey the most free and democratic country in the world. We can express this clearly. In this respect, all kinds of fascist mentality and politics of AKP-MHP fascism must be destroyed. This is definitely so.
IF THE ELECTION IS HEALTHY, EVERY TREND WILL ENTER THE ASSEMBLY
Everyone needs to be able to take an active stance against this fascism. The opposition should be accordingly. I can say that; In the past, many elections were held in Turkey with different laws. Sometimes there was no dam. Every tendency, almost every ideological tendency could enter the Parliament. As long as it gets enough votes to elect a deputy. There were no dams across the country. Now, there has been a threshold since September 12, but such a balance sheet has emerged that almost all trends in the current election lists will enter this Parliament. There are no parties, no alliances, there have been great alliances. So much so that with every ideological tendency, if there is an election, that is, if the AKP-MHP does not cheat, does not prevent, if there is an election close to fair, all tendencies will enter the new Parliament. Such a situation arose. AKP-MHP also unites the entire fascist front, if you pay attention. Libertarian democratic forces united in the Alliance for Labor and Freedom. They say that we are now entering the elections with the Green Left Party. They created such a list. There are almost all ideological tendencies. They will enter parliament. We can say that; If there is a choice, the consequences will be significant. An interesting Assembly will emerge. In this sense, the list of the Labor and Freedom Alliance is also very important. There is a similar situation for others.
I can say two things; the first is to destroy fascism, and the second is to initiate the democratic revolution process. To vote for the networks that will start the democratic revolution process and to make the libertarian and democratic forces the greatest power in the Parliament, and thus to start a new process. Undoubtedly, the struggle will continue, we will continue the struggle for revolution, but the election can make a very important move in this. All the oppressed should see this, the peoples of Turkey should see it, women should see it, especially the Kurdish people.
CALL ACCOUNT
For the Kurds, the century-old genocide is the process of ending the mentality and politics. So everyone should vote more sensitively and carefully. I call on all the peoples of Turkey, women and youth, to support and vote for the libertarian and democratic forces.
