NEWS CENTER – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Chairman Masoud Barzani on Wednesday met with Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, the leader of Turkey’s fundamentalist Free Cause Party (HÜDA-PAR). The pair “met in Mr Barzani’s offices in Erbil (Hewlêr) and discussed current matters”, HÜDA-PAR said in a tweet.
The Islamist party allegedly affiliated with Turkey’s Hezbollah had previously announced support for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), and is running some of its members as parliamentary candidates from the AKP’s lists.
The pair had held a phone call in mid-April as well.
The KDP is closely allied with Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), which also receives support from HÜDA-PAR, despite both Kurdish-majority organisations championing Kurdish autonomy against Turkey’s laws and the AKP’s policies.
