NEWS CENTER – During the night from Monday to Tuesday, internationalist and Kurdish youths put up graffiti in Berlin demanding the freedom of Rêber APO. Fireworks were also set off at midnight and slogans shouted to celebrate his birthday and April 4 as a day “internationally marked by awakening and the struggle for socialism and freedom.”
On the night of April 4th, young people and internationalists met in Leipzig to send powerful birthday greetings to Rêber APO on their 74th birthday and to the YPJ on their 10th anniversary.
“As the founder and philosopher of the Kurdish freedom movement, Rêber Apo is under great attack. He has been in solitary confinement on the prison island of Imrali for over 24 years,” they explained, “Despite this isolation, Abdullah Öcalan wrote in his imprisonment the ideas and basis of a liberated society on the foundations of women’s liberation and gender justice, democracy and ecology . Through the dark concrete walls of the prison, hope radiates from Imrali today. A hope that has also reached us and from which we learn a lot and a hope that made the revolution in Rojava possible. Today we congratulate Rêber Apo on his 74th birthday and the YPJ on their 10th.
The YPJ showed the implementation of those ideas in practice and the power of the organized women of Kurdistan. This force, which defeated the IS in Syria and is still defending the democratic achievements in North and East Syria against the IS, the Turkish state and wide patriarchal attacks, has become a role model and inspiration worldwide. Today we express our greatest respect and our deepest solidarity with the friends of the YPJ and with Rêber Apo and promise to continue the struggle.
