BEHDINAN – Informing that Fazıl Botan, who joined the Freedom Movement in 1988 and held positions such as HPG Main Headquarters management, HPG Command Council, and Kandil Field Command, was on the front line in the war against ISIS in 2012 and was injured in an accident in 2015, the PKK said that Botan’s announced that he went to Europe for treatment and that he was martyred on 15 June 2022.
The PKK Central Committee issued the following message on the martyrdom of Fazıl Botan:
“The PKK, a Leadership and a party of martyrs, continues to wage a great struggle against a massacre, fascist, genocidal and cruel enemy. Both friend and foe Erdoğan-Bahçeli dictators and AKP-MHP fascism know very well that the absolute victory of the guerrilla army, which heroically resisted against the most advanced weapons and technical tools of the fascist Turkish state, against the internationally banned chemical weapons and all kinds of poison gas attacks, is very close. For this reason, they are attacking as if they were mad in the true sense of the word, experiencing their last struggle. But they also know much better that it was a futile struggle. Of course, we pay a great price for this, we give great martyrs, great heroes fall to the ground. One of our great heroes and great martyrs is our comrade Fazıl Botan.
IT PLAYED A GREAT ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GUERILLA ARMY
Our great party martyr Fazıl Botan will always be remembered as a comrade who, after joining our party, contributed every bit of it to the reality of the Leadership, the struggle, the guerrilla warfare and our party. As the legendary commander of a great participation, a great march, a great task and responsibility, he played a great role in the development of the guerrilla army. Comrade Fazıl Botan, who has made great progress since the day he joined our party, and has been fighting the guerrilla in almost every inch of Kurdistan’s land, has become one of the rare commanders who succeeded in inflicting great blows on the enemy with a magnificent guerrilla tactic. In order to put an end to the oppression and slavery practices that have been imposed on the Kurdish people and the peoples of the Middle East for hundreds of years, he has lived through the deepest state of a struggle with breathlessness. Of course, the commitment to the country that brought it to this point, his responsibility towards his people, his passion for freedom and Botan’s patriotism. He personally experienced the cruelty of the enemy from a young age in Botan, and grew up with these brutal colonial practices he saw. He had a great grudge and hatred against the enemy from his childhood and grew up with the awareness that “if I get an opportunity one day, I will fight this brutal enemy without limits”. He managed to reach the rank of a great commander by mixing this patriotic consciousness with the ideology of the party in the following years. Comrade Fazıl Botan, who believes unlimitedly that Rêber Apo will save the Kurdish people from the policy of genocide and reinvents himself accordingly in every period, has returned to his duty with absolute success in every field he went to, and devoted himself to the guerrilla army with a self-sacrificing spirit. BLOOD VOID ON THE ENEMY IN GABAR
Comrade Fazıl Botan, who was born in 1968 at the foot of Mount Cudi in Botan, as a member of the Gête tribe, has a stance that almost identifies himself with Botan. The majestic Commander Comrade Fazıl, pure, clean, simple, unlimited and rich in social relations, and his deep patriotic awareness led him to adopt a big party lifestyle. In 1988, he joined the guerrilla ranks in Botan. After staying in the guerrilla for 2 years in Cudi, which he longed for, he assumes greater responsibilities as the owner of a great fight and war. In the 90s, he took part in the formation of mobile battalions in Gabar, which made the enemy vomit blood and became the nightmare of the Turkish army, and commanded the battalions. In 1993, he moved to the Leadership field in order to complete his military practice with theoretical and ideological training. In this educational process, he experiences a great transformation in his own personality and gets to know the truth of the Leadership better. Fazıl Comrade, who personally saw the leadership and received his training, dedicates himself to much more partying and militancy. By reinforcing Botan’s sincere, pure and honesty principles with its ideological dimensions, he returns to the battlefield to avenge the century by assuming a much greater responsibility to the mountains as the owner of a great life. In 1994, together with comrades Martyr Sakine Cansız and Evîn Goyî, he commanded the Mobile Battalion in Besta, inflicting great blows on the enemy. He goes to the Leadership Field again in 1997. This time, it goes into a process of deepening and intensification, not just ideological education. After the leadership field, he commanded the areas of Kato Jîrka and Çatak in 1998, As a PKK commander, who is loved and known both by the guerrilla and the public, he sets an example in wars and actions. After staying in Botan for a while during the withdrawal process, he assumed the command of Kandil and Xakurkê in the 2000s. During the June 1st Campaign, Fazıl Comrade, who continued his command in Botan, assumed strategic duties there. Against the Turkish state’s attack on Zap, Comrade Fazil takes part in the war as a front commander. With the tactics and war strategy he developed on the Zap front, he played a fundamental role in winning the 9-day war that defeated the Turkish state’s occupation of Zap in 2008. He pioneered the creation of a legitimate defense strategy, the development of a new era tactic, and the preparation of war tunnels. Its role was decisive in the creation and defense of the Medya Defense Zones. Fazıl Comrade Fazıl Comrade, who took part in the Main Headquarters management and the HPG Command Council, who fought a great battle and thus made rapid progress, and later served as the Qandil Field Command, took part in the war front against ISIS, which attacked the Rojava revolution in 2012. In 2015, he was seriously injured in an accident during the Newroz celebrations and went to Europe for treatment, and joined the caravan of martyrs on June 15, 2022.

Celebrating the week between the great sacrifice action carried out by the contemporary Comrade Kawa Mazlum Doğan on March 21 and the martyrdom day of the great guerrilla commander Mahsum Korkmaz, March 28, as the Week of Heroism, our party declared the martyrdom of Comrade Fazıl Botan, the great commander and Central Committee Member of our party. We also promise to keep his ideals alive. We say once again that the word is honor, we will never violate it. We hereby promise once again to our people and the peoples of the world that we will fulfill our promise to be the sharp sword of revenge for Mazlum Doğan, Mahsum Korkmaz, Comrade Fazıl and all other martyrs.”
