BEHDINAN – The PKK Central Committee stated that this year’s Newroz has become even more meaningful and underlined that: “Working with the spirit of mobilization is essential both to heal the wounds of the earthquake and to inflict great losses on the fascist AKP-MHP regime in the elections.”
PKK Central Committee made a written statement on the occasion of Newroz Festival. The full statement is as follows: “We greet the historical 2635th anniversary of Newroz, the 51st anniversary of Leader Apo’s freedom march in 1973, with great enthusiasm and resistance. First of all, we celebrate Newroz, the freedom day of our people, all resisting peoples and our friends in the person of Leader Apo. In the person of Comrade Mazlum Doğan, Zekiye, Rahşan, Ronahî, Bêrîvan, Sema, Sara, Rûken, Evîn Goyî, Yaşar Botan, Raperîn Amed; We commemorate the martyrs of Zap, Metîna, Avaşîn, Xakurkê and all martyrs of the revolution with respect and gratitude, and we promise to crown their memories with absolute victory. We believe that our people and all resistance forces will crown the struggle for democracy and freedom in 2023 with absolute victory by raising it with the spirit of Newroz resistance. Along with Newroz, we also celebrate our people’s National Heroic Week. We once again commemorate all martyrs of resistance in the person of our national heroes, Mazlum Doğan and Comrade Mahsum Korkmaz, with respect and gratitude.
PKK IS ALSO A NEWROZ PARTY
Newroz; It is a new day, rebirth, a new beginning, unity, resistance and freedom day for all peoples who rebelled, resisted and celebrated against oppression and tyranny. The symbol of resistance and freedom, Newroz has been celebrated by Kurdish, Arab, Turkish, Persian and other peoples for thousands of years. Although the colonial-genocidal fascist Turkish state made a great effort to darken the resistance spirit of Newroz, to empty its essence and distort its meaning, it could not be fully successful in this. It is also a fact that; For the first time, Newroz was celebrated with the PKK as a day of resistance and rebellion in accordance with its meaning and essence. Leader Apo’s meeting of the PKK’s first core group, the Apoist group, at Ankara’s Çubuk Dam on Newroz day, exactly 51 years ago, reveals the dialectic of PKK and Newroz resistance. In this sense, the PKK it is also a Newroz Party. The fact that Comrade Mazlum Doğan lit the Newroz fire with three matchsticks in the dungeon in Amed expresses how much Newroz has become for the PKK and how much Newroz has meaning in the PKK. Then, it is known how the Newroz fire of Zekiye, Rahşan, Bêrîvan and Ronahîs, which was shining more and more, became integrated with the magnificent folk serhildans in Kurdistan in the 90s.
IT IS THE REASON TO REACH ABSOLUTE VICTORY
The fact that Leader Apo is still held hostage in Imrali while celebrating a new Newroz is the biggest questioning and reckoning for our people and our Movement, as well as the reason for the greatest rebellion and absolute victory. Leader Apo is in a hostage position in İmralı today. A heavy lockdown is imposed on him. The center of the genocide is now Imrali. This situation alone clearly shows how Leader Apo is in great and historical resistance in Imrali today. Leader Apo persistently continues his resistance in the face of heavy isolation and all kinds of oppression. With his resistance, Leader Apo nullified the policies of the AKP-MHP fascist state to break the will of our people and liquidate our Movement. Unless we see and understand the special war and genocide policies on Imrali, it is not possible to understand how Leader Apo put up a great and meaningful resistance and attitude against all these. In summary, it must be said that if the colonialist-genocidal fascist Turkish state did not achieve its goal in the last 8 years of relentless war, Leader Apo’s resistance and attitude were decisive in this.
His 20-year reign is about to collapse
The colonialist-genocidal AKP-MHP fascism has launched an unprecedented level of attack against our people and our Movement in the last 8 years by mobilizing all the means it can mobilize with the power of NATO behind it. Their aim was to liquidate our Freedom Movement, which they called the last rebellion, in the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic and the Treaty of Lausanne. For this reason, he has deemed everything permissible, including the use of tactical nuclear bombs and chemical weapons, without recognizing any war ethics, law or humanitarian measure. While the fascist regime was committing war crimes against the freedom guerrilla every day, it wanted to collapse like a nightmare on legal democratic politics and our people, and tried to silence, intimidate and eliminate all those who resisted and all forces with all kinds of pressure and force. While the young women and sons of Kurdistan were creating epics in the mountains of Kurdistan, our people resisted without compromising their dignity, identity and freedom against this war waged by AKP-MHP fascism with all its fury, immoral and without rules. Undoubtedly, it is a reality that we pay a great price in this process. However, it is also a fact that the 20-year reign of the colonialist-genocidal fascist AKP-MHP state is about to collapse as a result of our resistance and the price we pay. The AKP-MHP fascist regime has now lost its external bases. Inside, he is in a deep depression and deadlock in every field and at every level. It is certain that our relentless struggle for 8 years, especially the historical resistance of Leader Apo, has been decisive in this.
CANNOT GET EVOLVED FROM THE EVENT
Turkey has now entered the election process. The elections to be held on 14 May will be the end of an era and the beginning of a new era in Turkey and Kurdistan, in terms of their results. AKP-MHP fascism will definitely resort to all kinds of tricks, intrigues and pressure methods in order not to be defeated and lose in the elections. However, no matter what they do, it is impossible to get rid of the inevitable result. The Labor and Freedom Alliance, all revolutionary-patriotic progressive forces, the full fulfillment of the roles, duties and responsibilities that all those who are against fascism will play in this process, in the face of the elections, will of course determine the outcome. So, one of the most important developments in the process we are going through is the elections.
LET’S MAKE OUR PAIN, OUR REASON FOR ACCOUNTING
In addition, with the earthquake that took place in 11 cities in Turkey and Kurdistan on February 6, more than tens of thousands of people lost their lives and many residential areas were destroyed. The great example of solidarity and cooperation that our people showed in the face of earthquake destruction, especially under the leadership of women, has been very valuable. The strength of sociality in the person of women in Kurdistan was once again seen in the spirit of unity and solidarity that our people showed in the face of the earthquake. Of course, the bitterness and pain caused by the earthquake is great, but we, as a people, are a people who know how to raise our awareness of holding our pain to account and questioning it. Of course, we will turn our increasing and accumulating anger into greater serhildan and greater resistances.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO WORK WITH THE SPIRIT OF MOBILIZATION
In that case, it is essential to work with the spirit of mobilization both to heal the wounds of the earthquake and to make the fascist AKP-MHP regime lose a lot in the elections. In this sense, it is necessary to bear the burden of knowing that very important developments can be experienced with these elections in the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the colonial-genocidal TR and the Treaty of Lausanne. As a result, the defeated and lost AKP-MHP fascism means a mentality break in the colonialist-genocidal Turkish state. It is clear that the consequences of this will be great on the developments both in Turkey and Kurdistan and especially in the Middle East. So we are living in historical days indeed. We have to work hard and succeed by organizing every day and every moment very well. Because time is not generous to anyone. Definitely organizing what to fit in what time,

There have sometimes been such opportunities and opportunities for success and victory in history that only Allah did not say ‘go, my servant’. The time we live through now is just such a time. Naturally, the gains, losses, dangers and opportunities of this process will be great. It is certain that all that has been lost so far will be won again, in a more glorious and magnificent way, when the process is loaded with the spirit of Newroz in the line of Leader Apo and the right revolutionary basis is countered with a total resistance.
MILLIONS WILL RISE FURTHER
International Women’s Day, which is celebrated with the belief and determination that the 21st century revolutions will be the women’s revolution, has been the start of the glorious and determined celebration of Newroz. Newroz, which will be celebrated in all four parts of Kurdistan, its mountains, wherever our people live, and in Europe with the motto “Every day Newroz, always Azadî”, must definitely aim at the physical freedom of Leader Apo. We believe that our people will show great participation in Newroz, which will be celebrated on March 21 in Amed, Bakurê Kurdistan. Millions will light the fire of Newroz in Amed Newroz square, one heart, one will, one voice will shout the physical freedom of Leader Apo. Newroz will definitely be celebrated with the participation of hundreds of thousands and millions in Istanbul, all metropolitan cities, Kurdistan and Europe. Millions will shout for Leader Apo’s freedom “Every der Newroz, With the motto “Azadî at all times”, it will raise the Newroz fever even higher. The women and youth of Kurdistan will continue the struggle with the Newroz resistance process without interruption and successfully fulfill the duties and responsibilities of leading the resistance and serhildans at all levels, and they will make 2023 a year of victory. On this basis, we celebrate Newroz once again in the person of Leader Apo for all our comrades, our people and our friends, and we say that the victory will be ours.”
