MARIBOR – A public event was held today, March 16, in Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, where the achievements of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement were discussed. It was not the first time that internationalists have come together to talk about the achievements of the revolution in this former Yugoslav city.
The event took place as part of Defend Kurdistan’s call for days of action against the Turkish state’s chemical warfare in Kurdistan. Since the event was held on the anniversary of the Halabja massacre in southern Kurdistan in 1988, in which 5000 people were killed by a gas attack by Saddam Hussein’s army, this event was also dedicated to commemorating the victims of chemical warfare in Kurdistan. The organizers of the event explained that the current chemical weapons attacks by the occupying Turkish state are “a historical continuation of Atatürk’s genocide in Dersim (with German warplanes and gas),
The main part of the presentation dealt with the liberation paradigm of Rêber APO and the struggle of the Kurdish society. As highlighted during the event, the constant attacks by Turkey, Iran and their international collaborators are mainly aimed at destroying the hopes that the revolution based on the paradigm of democratic modernity in Kurdistan and beyond the anti-system forces around world has given. A similar event took place in the Mediterranean town of Koper on Tuesday. The solidarity group Rojava kliče!, which organized the event, pointed out the difficult situation in Kurdistan, which has been created by the constant attacks by the Turkish and Iranian states on the society’s desire for freedom and the devastating earthquake. They also distributed books with Öcalan’s thoughts and collected donations for Heyva Sor a Kurdistan.
