NEWS CENTER – The International Delegation Against Isolation, which held meetings with political parties, bar associations and non-governmental organizations in Istanbul and Amed on 24-29 January to observe the isolation imposed by the Turkish state, will announce its report to the public at an online press conference. In the call text prepared for the online press conference, the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan was emphasized.
‘IMRALI SYSTEM IS INHUMAN’

“Abdullah Öcalan is one of thousands of prisoners sentenced to aggravated imprisonment. He has been held alone in İmralı Island Prison since 16 February 1999. In March 2015, Hamili Yıldırım, Ömer Hayri Konar and Veysi Aktaş from other prisons were transferred to the island prison. Abdullah Öcalan After a short trial, he was first sentenced to death, which was later commuted to aggravated life imprisonment, which means that Mr. Öcalan will remain in strict solitary confinement until Turkey abolishes this practice.
The Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture, in its August 2020 report examining the conditions in the F-type high security prison on Imrali Island, stated that Öcalan’s detention conditions were inhumane. He has not been allowed to meet with his lawyers except for a few visits since July 2011. In addition to lawyers, prisoners are not allowed to meet with their families. Abdullah Öcalan, with his lawyers, on August 7, 2019; He met with his family on March 3, 2020. The other three prisoners in Imrali are subjected to the same practice. March 25 marks the second year since meeting with Mr. Öcalan.
