LONDON – Today in London, youth from TCS and tekojin organized a demonstration in Piccadilly Circus with the slogan “Freedom for Ocalan”. The action started with speeches from 2 young women from TEKOJin who spoke about the isolation and detainment of Abdullah Ocalan kidnapped and held in the prison of inadmissible guarded by 1000 soldiers. The young women connected the physical imprisonment of reber APO to the womens freedom movement all over the world under the slogan “women life freedom”. A young women from south of Kurdistan stated:
“The massacre in Paris was a direct attack on women and freedom. Reber APO has given us a paradigm of liberation and we must succeed in this struggle with the will and strength of women and reber APO’s freedom”
A male friend from the Tevgere Soresgere Ciwan further spoke about the chemical attacks on on the gerilla friends in the mountains of Kurdistan. He stated:
“An attack on reber APO is an attack on all of us. The gerilla will continue to resist every chemical warfare attack and every genocidal policy against the Kurdish people. As youth we demand the physical freedom of reber APO and call on all youth to act now”
Moments after speeches and slogans, the demonstration was interfered by police due to the raised YPG and YPJ flag. The police demanded to know the identities of persons holding these place on the basis of “UK banned criminal symbols”.
The youth responded by defending the flag and making more speeches about the role of YPG and YPG’s in the fight against ISIS. At the end of the demonstration, the youth called on all kurdish people and their friends to join the general demonstration for the freedom of Abdullah Ocalan on 11 February 2023 which will start in Halkevi, Dalston at 2pm.
