BEHDÎNAN – The statement of the main command of the People’s Defense Center (NPG) reads as follows:
“The earthquake in Bazarcix (Pazarcık) on February 6 turned into a major catastrophe. Our society has suffered a lot of damage and suffered heavy losses from this earthquake. Our society is deeply concerned in these painful days when tens of thousands of people from Kurdish, Turkish and Arab communities have lost their lives and tens of thousands are still waiting for rescue under the rubble. We deeply feel and share the pain of our societies. We wish Allah’s mercy on all those who have lost their lives and our condolences to their families and loved ones. We wish all wounded a speedy recovery.
It is a great humanitarian, conscientious and moral duty to ease the pain of our societies and to heal their wounds. Coming together and developing solidarity is the best approach to mitigate and overcome the difficulties of these days. We want to support that too. All our self-defense forces and welatparêzen institutions should support and mobilize people to help. Especially the rural areas and villages, which have not been penetrated and which have been neglected, need urgent support. This is the most important humanitarian and welatparêze task at this time. On this basis, we agree to the call of Heval Cemil Bayık on behalf of the co-chair of the KCK Executive Council and declare that his demands will be met in practice.
In this regard, our call to all our guerrilla, combat and self-defense units is as follows: As part of our Co-Chairman’s call, all action plans and practices in the metropolises and cities should be halted; as long as there is no attack by the Turkish armed forces on our forces stationed in the rural areas, no action activities should be developed. This directive is in effect pending a second order and it is an essential duty of all legitimate defense forces to strictly follow it.
It is known that for years the AKP-MHP regime, within the policy of genocide in Kurdistan, has been directing and spending all of Turkey’s resources to war and spending enormous amounts on plans of attacks against our freedom forces and all institutions of our society. Also, this government, which enriches its own cronies in many ways, does not spend on people’s life and safety and does not develop infrastructure facilities, so that all societies living in Turkey and our society suffer great pain. The casualty figures are high. Social solidarity and support are of great importance for this.
