NEWS CENTER – Under the leadership of Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp Education Area, the students and teachers of Makhmur celebrated International Mother Language Day with a march. The march started in front of Shahid Jiyan Secondary School and continued to Makhmur Culture and Art Center.

In the march, the slogans “Long live the resistance of our people”, “There is no life without language” and “Long live Leader Apo” were raised and posters of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan were raised.

After the students and teachers arrived in front of the Culture and Art Center, a minute of respect was held for all the martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement. Then a statement was read by Qeder Apaydin.

The statement is as follows;

“When the decision to annihilate languages and nations was aimed at, the Bangladeshi people in Pakistan started a language movement on February 21, 1952 against the concept of denial. Due to this movement, health students of Dhaka University started protesting by marching. The Pakistani police opened fire on them, many people lost their lives and hundreds were injured. Despite this, the people of Bangladesh did not give up their language and intensified their activities. The government of Pakistan was forced to accept the Bangall language as the official language. In continuation of this resistance, the people of Bangladesh declared their independence in 1971.

In 1998, Rafiqul Islam, a Bangladeshi living in Canada, sent a letter to UN Secretary Kofi Annan and requested that this day be world language day. Their request was accepted by UNESCO on February 17, 1999, and February 21 became world language day.

In order to be able to stop the attack on the Kurdish language, we must take the people of Bangladesh as an example and increase our activities against the Turkish occupation as an educational field and become leaders for the people.

If you are interested, on February 15, the defender of the language, or Rêber Apo, was arrested in an unethical conspiracy and handed over to Turkey. We see that the necessary thing is not done by the UN, the genocide of culture and language continues without interruption. According to official data, 18 languages are on the verge of extinction in Turkey alone. The dialect of the Kurdish language is one of those languages.

We want to be able to speak our language without fear in all areas of life. We must know that if we do not resist like the people of Bangladesh, the oppression of the invaders on our people will not be stopped. We must unite and strengthen ourselves. Language protection, culture protection, nation protection, reputation protection. Absence of language is absence of nation. As an educational field, we condemn the Turkish occupation and all attacks on the mother tongue.

The declaration ended with the slogans ‘Long live the resistance of our people’, ‘There is no life without language’ and ‘Long live Leader Apo’.
