LONDON – Yesterday in London, the JXK/YXK organized a fundraising event in collaboration with Kurdish student societies all across the UK. Students sold baked goods and spoke to students about the recent earthquake in Bakuri Kurdistan. Through this event, money was raised to be donated to Heyva Sor and issues regarding the war in Kurdistan was talked about with students. The JXK/YXK in London made the following statement:
“Firstly, we send our thoughts and love to friends in Kurdistan and everywhere who have been effected, or have family and friends that are affected by this tragedy. As students and as kurdish youth, it is our responsibility to raise to action when horrible disasters such as this occur.
We must not forget that our role is to vanguard this revolution with love for life and for community. The fascist Turkish state and parties will be using this disaster to further exploit, oppress and genocide the kurdish people. With elections around the corner, we must analyze and monitor the events and actions following this earthquake. We must not take lightly the fact that translation services, rescue forces, and other help mechanisms were limited and extremely weak in this moment. We must understand that the strategic underdevelopment of kurdish regions are part of a bigger attack on the Kurds, and it is part of the same genocidal policy that allowed this natural disaster to take the life of many friends, and injure/harm almost the entire area.
Our people are in an unfortunate situation and we must organize both politically and socially within youth to continue actions, educations and events. We must never stop speaking about Kurdistan.”
