NEWS CENTER – The Kurdistan earthquake balance sheet is getting heavier and heavier. The solidarity campaign for the victims of the earthquake launched by Heyva Sor a Kurdistan in Europe is spreading day by day. The campaign is also spreading among internationalist groups and organizations.
A total of 17 anarchist organizations from Italy, Germany, New Zealand, Uruguay, Catalonia, Spain, Switzerland, Colombia, Turkey, Brazil, South Korea, Rojava and France issued a joint statement drawing attention to the earthquake in Kurdistan.
The statement highlighted that the AKP-MHP government is preventing volunteers from providing aid and called attention to the Heyva Sor relief campaign launched, calling for support and participation.
OUR COMRADES PARTICIPATE DIRECTLY IN AID ACTIONS
The statement said, among other things: “The earthquakes of February 6 and their aftershocks have devastated entire regions. The death toll is in the tens of thousands and continues to rise. Millions of people have limited or no access to water, electricity, gas, food and other basic needs. Our comrades in anarchist organizations, grassroots unions and people’s organizations work together and are directly involved in the relief efforts”.
FOR THE STATE AND ITS MAFIA, ONLY PROFITS MATTER
The statement further said: “The AKP regime is preventing progressive organizations from raising funds and providing much-needed aid and solidarity. To cite just one example, on the day of the earthquakes, the Independent Miners’ Union—in a show of solidarity known only to workers and the oppressed—immediately announced their willingness to send their members to affected areas to help with search and rescue operations . The 24 hours after the earthquakes are the most critical for rescue operations. For two days they were prevented from doing so by the state.
A mindset that prefers workers to risk their lives underground for profits for the ruling class rather than to save the lives of tens of thousands of people buried under the rubble of their homes. People have been buried under buildings built by housing mafias who are doing their best to make profits by ignoring safety standards and driving down costs, with the complicity of the state’s failure to enforce building codes and safety rules.
Humanitarian aid is confiscated and redistributed by the AKP and its Islamo-fascist authorities. Fascists and state authorities are threatening to “eliminate” ordinary people who work day and night to feed and provide for those displaced by the earthquakes.
HEAL WOUNDS WITH SOLIDARITY
It is clear that the state and its supporters are more interested in maintaining the capitalist system than in saving the lives of tens of thousands of people. It is therefore necessary to expand and develop solidarity and mutual aid at the grassroots level. In this terrible tragedy that is far from over, the state system and capitalism are responsible for far more deaths and far more suffering than the earthquakes caused. But we will heal our open wounds with the solidarity of working people and the oppressed.
To ensure the safety of our comrades, we will not reveal the names of the organizations to which the donations are intended. These are anarchist organisations, grassroots unions and grassroots organisations, with whom we are already collaborating and in whom we have full confidence.
The donations are collected by our comrades in Switzerland, who already have an international solidarity structure. Besides our anarchist and union comrades, part of the donations will go to the Swiss branch of the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor).”
