NEWS CENTER – YPG International shared a statement in their medias in solidarity to the revolutionary struggle in the Basque Country against the occupation from the Spanish and French state and their persecution of the people that stand against them. The statement can be read as:
“As YPG-International, we stand with the thousands of people marching in Euskal Herria demanding the release of Basque political prisoners who legitimately fought for socialism and the liberation of their land. For a people who have suffered thousands of years of imperialism and oppression, it is a more than just demand that their political prisoners be freed. With the false peace process and the end of a military force in defense of Euskal Herria, it is that much more disturbing that the Spanish and French state continue an aggressive strategy against the Basque people by denying such a basic and persistent demand. The torturers and murderers of the state remain free, while, for decades, millions of people have marched through the streets of Euskal Herria for a change in prison policy, with no real response.
The institutionalized violence of capitalism and of the Spanish and French occupying states is, of course, widespread in Euskal Herria, the penitentiary policies of these states being only a small fragment of it, but it demonstrates the complete intolerance of these states towards Euskal Herria. And it highlights the need for real democracy for the Basque people. Therefore, when observing the Basque struggle we should remember the words of the Basque revolutionary leader and martyr Argala:
“Peoples do not practice violence for the pleasure of doing so but driven by the pressing need to acquire a human right: the right to freedom in social relations. Popular violence is always defensive in the face of the
institutionalized violence of the exploiting class, and therefore completely legitimate.”
In this regard, we declare our solidarity with the Basque people and their historic struggle for freedom and socialism.
