NEWS CENTER – Since April 14, 2022, the invading Turkish state continues to use chemical weapons against the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla on the basis of war crimes. HPG shares with the public all the attacks that have developed in its daily balance sheets. Finally, HPG stated in its statement that 11 freedom guerrillas were fighting a historical struggle in the Martyr Xursi War Tunnels, and that 11 guerrillas were martyred as a result of the intensive and systematic use of chemical weapons by the invading Turkish state. 11 freedom guerrillas were martyred on 5 November 2022.

The Information and Press Center of HPG shared the following information about the Helmet Viyan guerrillas who were martyred in Zapê Shahid:
“Our friend Helmet was born into a patriotic and respectable Caf tribe family in Suleimaniyeh. Our comrade Helmet, who was from the same tribe as one of the pioneers of the reconstruction of the PKK, was our comrade Martyr Viyan Soran and her relative. Timi tried to know and understand the PKK better. He increased his efforts in this way during his youth, as he got to know the struggle for freedom led by our party, he wanted to join the ranks of this struggle. In particular, he investigated the reason why our friend Viyan Soran joined the PKK and wanted to understand the reasons for Viyan’s selfless act. The answer to all these questions was found in the letters of Viyan’s friend that he wrote before the event. With this deep influence, he was initially involved in youth work, made the youth of South Kurdistan to know our party, the PKK, and to join the ranks of the struggle. Our comrade Helmet correctly assessed the historical process of our people, he believed that our people, who are under the pressure of genocide, can be freed only through an extraordinary struggle. As a young Kurd, he came to the conclusion that he should fight even harder to break the threat of genocide against our people and to break the isolation on our Leader. Our friend Helmet, who was in such depth, after the noble patriot Vedat Duhok was murdered by the traitorous forces, took an oath to avenge him and decided to join the guerrilla ranks in 2016.
By joining the ranks of the guerrillas, he got the joy and heavy responsibility that Martyr’s friend Viyan Soran had said that he must remove his weapon from his tribe. He participated in his guerrilla life with this joy and responsibility. At the beginning, he participated in the work in the Qandile area, he had the opportunity to learn the life of the mountain and the guerrilla in this place in every way. However, our friend Helmet was never satisfied with the current situation, he always wanted to learn more and increase his struggle on this basis. In order to be able to respond to the heavy war process, he wanted to advance himself from the military point of view. For this purpose, he participated in trainings at the operational school, and became a master in the tactics of guerrilla warfare. The martyrdoms at this time and the severe isolation on our Leader made our comrade Helmet more involved in the investigations. Our friend Helmet, in order to achieve his goals and be a true companion of our Leader, came to the conclusion that he should join in the level of sacrifice. For this purpose, he shared his deep understanding of self-sacrifice with our organization many times. In order to be able to do this, our comrade Helmbet believed that he should educate himself in many ways and joined the Special Forces.
Through the training in the Special Forces, self-sacrifice became a philosophy of life. He made his participation in life, work and war in this context and did not accept any other way except victory. He acted with high awareness and responsibility for his duties, and with great desire and morale, he participated in any work that our organization deemed appropriate. He was always deep for our war of freedom against the invaders, he shared his deepness with our organization and made it his goal to make his fellow fighters home. Our friend Helmet struggled with this responsibility, he trusted all his friends with these qualities. He spent every moment of his life by striking big blows against the enemy, and in response to the enemy’s attacks on the Zap and Avashin areas, he took his place in the moving teams and entered the Zap area. He took part in many activities in the region of Zap, where heavy blows were inflicted on the enemy and he had a big part in the great victories. In the region of Zap, with his humility and participation in the work, in the battlefield with the method of fighting in the form of running and insisting on the line of sacrifice, he took his place in the hearts of his comrades and became an exemplary militant. The team battle advanced with movement, while showing the same effort in combat tunnels.
He participated in manual resistance against the enemy for 3 months in the war tunnels of Shahid Khursi in Saca area; with his morale, enthusiasm and belief in defeating the enemy, he became a source of strength for all his companions. Our comrade Helmet and his comrades inflicted heavy blows on the enemy in the war of tunnels and inflicted one of the heaviest blows in history on the enemy. The occupying Turkish army, which could not break the selfless resistance of our comrades and achieve the desired result, used chemical weapons once again and tried to force our comrades to surrender. Our comrade Helmet and other comrades with a strong will of Apoyi fought, decided on free life and was martyred as a result of attacks with heavy chemical weapons.
