BEHDINAN – PKK Solidarity Committee with the Families of Martyrs announced that Berçem Tûrcel (Hibrize Ozdurak) was martyred on June 15, 2022, and Kînda Zîn (Fatma Onur) on October 28, 2022, in the attacks of the Turkish state against Medya Defense Areas.
The Committee’s statement, titled “To our patriotic people and to the public,” provided the following information on the lives and struggles of both martyrs:
It was stated that the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla inflicts heavy blows on the colonialism of the Turkish state every day, and said: “The youth of the Kurdish people in the areas of Zap, Metina and Avaşîn guarantee victory by resisting with a self-sacrificing spirit. There are great martyrdoms on this road every day. The martyrs of our age, who resist with the Apoist spirit, form the unique rings of steel will with their martyrdom. In any case, Önder defines the PKK as the party of martyrs.
If the Kurds continue to be an army in the war of existence-existence today, it is thanks to my heroic martyrs. Epics of resistance are being written in every part of Kurdistan. Especially thousands of young women, the struggle for existence displayed by the ideas and philosophy of Leader Apo, has turned into a shield to defend our people and has affected the whole world. Our two female comrades, whose martyrdom we announced today, also played an important role in strengthening the line of women’s freedom. Comrade Berçem Tûrcel (Hibrize Ozdurak) was born in 1978 to a patriotic family in Şebe Village of Dêrika Çiyayê Mazî. Comrade Berçem, who came and went to his villages and met guerrillas since his childhood, was influenced by the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle and left school after three years of education in the colonial school system of the Turkish state. Witnessing the oppression of the Turkish state against the Kurdish people, Comrade Berçem harbors great anger against the enemy in his heart and mind. Comrade Berçem, who also witnessed the burning and destruction of the villages connected to the freedom cause, prefers to be an active part of the freedom struggle as a rebellious young woman.
She joined the ranks of freedom at a young age in 1993 and is now one of the guerrillas she had admired since childhood. Undoubtedly, it is not enough to take up arms in the war against the colonial system; above all, strong ideological and organizational equipment is also necessary for this war. In this framework, Comrade Berçem joined the training group of the 5th Congress in 1994 and this training process brought her stance to a significant level, and she fought nonstop in the four parts of Kurdistan for many years.
The most basic principle of the PKK; Comrade Berçem, who implemented the principle of education in every moment of her life, participated in many military and ideological trainings. After each training she received, she took her steps in the freedom struggle stronger. In 2008, Bakure moved to Kurdistanê and remained in Amed, Xerzan û Erzirom provinces. During her stay in the battlefields of every mountain of Kurdistan, she lived the life of her widow and masterfully knitted his life as a creative comrade. Becoming the milestone of PJAK in the face of Leader Apo’s reality was of great importance for Comrade Berçem. For this reason, she took the Leadership line as a basis throughout his entire march. She carried the memories of hundreds of martyrs of freedom in her heart and struggled in every field to bring the reality of martyrs to life. With her participation in Rojhilat, Bashur, Bakur and Rojava, she became a strong militant of the PKK’s nationality stance.
It also acquired rich styles and tactics for the stronger conduct of the war against colonialism, especially in the revolutionary people’s war. As a militant of the PJAK and the PKK, she became the owner of the Apoist line against all kinds of reaction and liquidationism. Acting in a scientific manner according to Leader Apo’s paradigm, she spent every moment of her life questioning and struggling to form a true comradeship with Leader Apo. Our comrade Kînda Zîn (Fatma Onur) was born in Domdere Village of Afşin district of Maraş to a patriotic and Alevi family. Her family made a living by dealing with agriculture and animal husbandry. Comrade Kînda’s childhood years in the village helped her to develop values of commitment to the community. Undoubtedly, the genocidal policies of the Turkish state against the Kurdish people are twice as much on the Alevi community. The environment where Comrade Kînda grew up is exposed to special pressure and assimilation politics due to both Kurdish and Alevi identities. Therefore, many families from this region had to migrate to Europe. Comrade Kînda’s family also emigrated to Europe when she was 13. Although Comrade Kînda, who broke away from the country, develops the longing for the country and the feeling of being abroad, this situation also allows her to experience many contradictions. Life at the center of capitalist modernity is of no interest to her. Her reaction to the capitalist modernity lifestyle brings with it the first contradictions and quests. Her longing and devotion to the village life he left behind, to the ancient culture of Kurdistan, increases.
In 1991, she had the opportunity to get to know the party closely. As a requirement of historical responsibility, reviving the culture first takes place in the studies. From 1991 to 1993, she carried out cultural and youth work with great enthusiasm. Afterwards, she actively participates in the activities of organizing the public for two years. However, Comrade Kînda’s face is always facing the country, the love of the country increases day by day in her heart, and in 1995 she reaches the mountains of Kurdistan, the cradle of humanity, with great excitement and longing. From 1995 to 2000, she filled her heart with the love of freedom on the high hills and sharp cliffs of Zagros. Zagros’ flowers, trees and with all their splendor managed to unite itself, adding beauty to its beauty. In her adventure of reaching her roots, she became a strong guerrilla fighting for freedom on the summits of high mountains. Comrade Kinda knew very well that if he did not create his personality on the reality of Leader Apo and the martyrs, if she could not reach a strong level of clarity in the Leadership paradigm, the battle in the positions would be incomplete. She combined the libertarian character of the PKK with the ideology of women’s liberation in her personality, and focused on renewing herself and protecting the line on the basis of Leader Apo’s ideas and philosophy.
The conspiracy against the Kurdish people on February 15, 1999, in the person of Leader Apo, left an unhealed wound in the heart of Comrade Kînda, and therefore she organized her whole life to hold accountable for this conspiracy. In the ideological and military trainings she received, she took great steps to become a true militant of the PKK and PJAK. She waged a unique struggle in the line of Leader Apo, as requested from a PKK and PJAK militant, in organizational work in many fields. She was most actively involved in ideological and organizational studies. she would attach great importance to education in order to further implement the paradigm of democratic modernity, to create the militancy of the period along military lines. Therefore, he became a pioneering creator and developer of education in every field he stayed. She had a successful practice in many fields of Rojhilat (east) and Medya Defense Zones. It was based on continuous renewal and self-development with its concentration and projects. He worked for many years, especially in the development and implementation of projects such as libraries. With a strong sensitivity, he made an effort to keep the reality of martyrs alive. She worked in the Martyrs’ Families Committee for many years in order to bring the reality of martyrs to life in the society, especially among the families of the martyrs, on ideological principles. She felt the pain of hundreds of mothers and families in her heart, fed her personality with the memories of thousands of martyrs, and added their dreams to her own. She took the personalities and souls of her martyred friends as a basis in order to bring him into existence. With a strong sensitivity, she made an effort to keep the reality of martyrs alive.
Our comrade Kînda Zîn became a strong example of the reality of free women by displaying a measured, humble and laboring stance on the basis of the scientificity of the ideology of women’s freedom. She carried out all the necessary works without hesitation as much as a dirham, on the basis of the decisive victory march. Our comrade Kînda Zîn was martyred in the attacks of the fascist Turkish state on October 28, 2022, while she was on duty in the Medya Defense Zones.
Both of our comrades have become a part of the history of freedom, witnessing all the hardships and beauties for 30 years. They have turned towards the enemies of humanity, who never hesitated a bit. Let the friends and enemies of the Kurdish people know very well that; The PKK and the Kurdish people are getting stronger with the martyrdom and the reality of martyrs. Each martyr opens new rifts in the destruction of the strongholds of colonialism. As Leader Apo said, ‘We are not afraid of martyrs, we are afraid of pausing.’ Because the martyrs determine the guarantee of the way to liberate the country. Like these comrades, we will strongly protect their dreams and memories without hesitation, and we will definitely achieve the goals of ensuring the physical freedom of Leader Apo and ending colonialism in Kurdistan.
