NEWS CENTER – In a written statement, the Shengal Autonomous Administration announced that the 43-year-old revolutionary of the Kurdish Freedom Movement, Menal Mêrdin, was martyred in Tilezêr as a result of a treacherous assassination attack by the KDP and the Turkish state.
It was stated that Menal Mêrdîn, a revolutionary and enlightened personality, made a great effort for all faiths in Kurdistan and the Middle East during his 43-year struggle, spent 20 years in the prisons of the Turkish state, but did not surrender even for a day against the persecution.
Continuing the statement, the following was noted: “After the edict we experienced, Menal Mêrdîn turned his direction to Shengal. He served the Yazidi people with his knowledge and experience. He was interested in working on a book so that the edict was heard by the world. He wanted to get to know the Êzidî community, the Şengal Mountains and the Êzidî belief closely. After these works in Serdeşt, he turned his direction to Tilezêr. Its sole purpose was to solve the problems of the Êzidî society and to be an answer to its problems. His main aim was to share the suffering of the Yazidi people.
THE ATTACK WAS PERFORMED BY THE TURKISH MIT AND KDP
Menal Mêrdin was attacked in Tilezêr on January 2, 2023. He was assassinated in the house where he was working. It is well known to us by whom this attack was carried out and what it aimed for. This attack was carried out by the Turkish MIT and the KDP. This treacherous attack is a planned attack. We consider it our duty to share this information with our people. At the time of the attack, reconnaissance planes belonging to the Turkish state were flying in the skies of Tilezêr. This attack was very clearly and clearly planned by the Turkish MIT and the KDP.
The invading Turkish state and the KDP are constantly attacking to prevent the people from returning to Shengal. It is well known that people continue to return to their homes. The last 100 families staying in the Serdeşt Camp returned to Tilezêr. Wherever the people are returning, the Turkish state attacks them.
DEFENDING THE ÊZIDI PEOPLE ARE TARGET
We know these attacks well. The invading Turkish state, in partnership with the KDP, carried out such attacks in many parts of Southern Kurdistan, especially in Sulaymaniyah. On October 4, 2022, pioneer and revolutionary woman Nagihan Akarsel was martyred by the KDP and MIT. On 23 December 2022, Evîn Botan, Mir Perwer and Abdurrahman Kızıl were martyred in a similar attack in Paris. The attack on Menal Mêrdîn is also a part of these attacks.
The KDP and the Turkish state have targeted everyone who has led Shengal and defended the Êzidî people since the edict. Because they want Shengal to always remain injured. However, revolutionaries like Menal Mêrdîn, on the other hand, turned towards Shengal with great determination and faith in order to heal the wounds of Shengal.
‘WE WILL HELD RESPONSIBLE ACCOUNTABLE’
We remind the KDP and the Turkish state once again that you will never be able to bring us to our knees. We will ask you to account for this edict. We will ask you to account for the martyrdom of Menal Mêrdîn. The Yazidi community knows both their friends and their enemies well. Just as the friends of the Êzidî community have embraced Shengal, we will embrace these friends who have devoted themselves to the Yazidis and Shengal.
In order to show our reaction to these attacks at the highest level, we will hold a mass march on January 5, 2023 at 13.30.”
