CANADA – In order to launch their organization and bring international support, the internationalists of Gaspé will march from Gaspé to Percé on January 6th and 7th for the liberation of Abdullah Ocalan along with the Kurdish people and their allies around the world!
“As the economic stranglehold on the various social classes tightens daily, and as anxiety and ecological disaster, gross inequality and totalitarian violence increase at a dangerous pace, we find ourselves ever more inspired by the anti-authoritarian struggles of our time, given their ever-renewed determination to fight domination.
The Kurdistan region stretches across southeastern Turkey, northeastern Iraq, northwestern Iran and two small areas in northeastern and northwestern Syria. The Kurdish people are the largest people without a territory or nation on the planet. Canada and Turkey are very important economic allies under neo-liberalism and are members of NATO as well as many other world organizations. Their economic relationship is not new. In 2019, Canada decided to block arms exports under the pretext that Turkey used Canadian weapons in operations in Syria, but the restrictions were later eased. Canada imposed restrictions again in 2021 after finding that Canadian technology and weapons that were exported to Turkey violated Canadian foreign policy. Moreover, it is well documented that Turkey uses chemical weapons in the Kurdish mountains that are prohibited by the Geneva Convention. In response, Turkish authorities lock up those who call for an independent investigation. Yet, this does not prevent more than 350 Canadian companies from having investments in Turkey in mining, technology, gentrification, arms and food. The message from our side is that the capitalist economy is more important than human lives and that Canada is complicit in the massacre that Turkey has imposed on the Kurds for a long time.
As libertarians, we denounce the problems that such a neoliberal program proposes, namely the destruction of our natural environment for all, the incessant wars that we see everywhere now, and the barbaric colonial ideas perpetrated by our economic system. As mentioned above, Canada’s relationship with Turkey means that we have blood on our hands. Our desire for a better world under a globalized system must become a globalized desire. That is why we call ourselves ‘internationalists’.
A march for the release of Abdullah Ocalan is organized every year by the youth of the revolution as well as international collectives. The leader, also known as Apo, has been unjustly imprisoned for 23 years in an isolated prison on a Turkish island. The operation for his arrest, conducted by the secret services of different countries, is a violation of international laws. Therefore, we have chosen a way to join the Kurds this year on February 6 and 7 and demand the release of Ocalan. Members of the organization will march from Gaspé to Percé to show their solidarity with the leader of the movement who has been unjustly locked up for too long and to raise awareness of the Kurdish discourse. ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
In order to bring a critical look at human and ecological liberation movements and to be better inspired by them, activists living in Gespe’gewa’gi (Gaspé) have formed a group of internationalists whose objective is to raise awareness among the people of the territory of intersectional, anti-colonial, anti-capitalist or anti-authoritarian struggles from here and elsewhere, as well as to create various actions of support and popular education in connection with these struggles.
