MEXMÛR – On September 17, 2022, the HPG press center published the identity of Mardîn Penaber. Heval Mardîn had taken her place in the ranks of the guerrillas for quite some time. At first, Heval Mardîn was active in the youth work and later moved to the military field.
The HPG made it clear that Heval Mardîn died with her comrades Heval Çekdar Oremar, Roza Hedar, Rojhat Dilbirîn and Serhed Agirî in the Metîna resistance area on July 04, 2022 Şehîd because the Turkish occupying soldiers used chemical weapons against her and her comrades.
On October 18, 2022 Şehîd People’s Defense Units Decision Center, NPG published the names of 17 guerrillas who fell due to the use of chemical weapons by fascist Turkey. In the NPG statement, it became clear that so far a total of 44 Hevals have died due to the use of chemical weapons and banned bombs since the beginning of the April 14 Şehîd occupation invasion.
Şehîd Mardîn Penaber grew up in the refugee camp of our welatparêz population in Mexmûr within a family of the Goyî tribe. The villages in Botan (north of Kurdistan) of the residents of the refugee camp in Mexmûr were burned by fascist Turkey in the 90s, so they were forced to flee and settle in the south of Kurdistan in a very dry and hot environment and create new life there. Şehîd Mardîn grew up in such a society, which knew the reality of the enemy very well and set up camp on the outskirts of Mexmûr city through the support of Rêber APO. Rêber APO said about the children from Mexmûr that they were his children.
There have been some connections to the party in Şehîd Mardîn Penaber’s family. Women who have taken a leadership role in the ranks of the PKK such as Şehîd Zehra Penaber or the siblings Sarîn and Zindan who took their place in the resistance of the cities of Cizir and Şirnex in northern Kurdistan and fell Şehîd there.
In this way, Şehîd Mardîn also decides to join the ranks of the guerrillas. She took over the weapons of her fallen family members, did not allow them to lie on the ground and continued her way. Our news agency Nuçe Ciwan spoke with Şehîd Mardîn Penaber’s sister, Mizgîn Kara.
Mizgîn Kara told us about the difficult situation that prevailed in the camp when Şehîd Mardîn was born and that she and her sister grew up with the culture of this resistant population that is deeply connected with the philosophy and Rêber APO.
The whole interview went as follows:
“I am Mizgîn Kara, I am the sister of Şehîd Mardîn Penaber. We live in the Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî camp. We have grown up in Camp Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî for 27 years. We say we grew up because I was born in the south of Kurdistan and came to Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî Camp when I was young. (…)
Life in the camp was hard, but society was connected to Rêber APO on all levels.
My sister Mardîn Penaber was born on September 11, 2000. She experienced the difficulties in the camp at a young age. She learned this culture. When she was born in the camp, you can’t say there was anything to live for in the camp. There was not such a life. Because we came to the camp newly. At that time, the camp was not such a camp to live in. There were shortcomings everywhere. A life was not built here yet and life was very difficult. Such a life where a person can not breathe, live. In such a camp she was born.
Also because of this culture in the camp we are connected to the thinking and philosophy of Rêber APO. On all levels. In thinking, in feelings, in ideology, in speaking, with everything we are connected to the chairman.
The children of Mexmûr are the children of Rêber APO – Şehîd Mardîn is one of them.
Therefore, the children who are born here learn these feelings and ideology of Rêber APO. They know what Rêber APO wants, for this society, for the oppressed society. Mardîn is one of those young people who want the freedom of Rêber APO, Rêber APO who gave his diligence for so many years for the youth and the society in the camp. He has shown his memory and philosophy to this society. Mardîn is one of these youths.
At home, in the neighborhood, everyone loved her very much, because from her early age until she joined, she laughed with all her heart. She was always a funny person. She was always joking with her hevals, always laughing with them. Even when she was in pain, which hurt, there was always a smile on her face.
When Heval Mardîn was still small she already worked in many places. She took her place in the associations and institutions at a young age, in the art and culture association, she took her place in the field of theater, she took her place in the field of dance, she contributed in the most different fields. She always wanted to be an answer for the chairman.
Not leaving the weapon of the Şehîds on the ground – Şehîd Mardîn wanted to seek freedom.
When Heval Zindan and Heval Sarina, two siblings, fell during the city battle in Cizir Şehîd Mardîn was eager to join at the beginning and when our aunt Şehîd Zehra Penaber Şehîd fell, she wanted it even more. She had this desire even as a child, but when Heval Şehîd Zehra Şehîd fell it affected her even more and when Heval Zindan and Heval Sarina Şehîd fell it became even more. She said “I can’t breathe anymore because I am not free. I want to live so free that I can be free. I go to seek my freedom, I go to seek the freedom of the chairman.”
She had a strong desire to join. When our two Hevals were released as Şehîds, Heval Zindan and Heval Sarina, Heval Mardîn had attended school with Heval Sarina, Heval Sarina went and fell Şehîd there. In our camp, a lineup (in memory) was made for her, the society gathered, here Mardîn was eager to join. She came there and we went back home, there she said to us, “Dad I am big, I want to go, for so many years I want to go, but you and the society don’t want me to go, you say I am still too young, but now I am big, I am going. I have this desire to go.” My father said to her at that time, “You are still too young,” but she said, “No, I want to go, whatever you do, I will go.” Then my father said, “Ok my daughter, if you have the desire and will, you know that you will betray the chairman, the society and no one, I will stand behind you until the end.”
She always wanted to become a guerrilla and live according to the philosophy of Rêber APO.
When Mardîn with such a strong will wanted to join, we wanted to support her as a family because she wanted to join. It was her dream. In school, when there was a celebration, an event, she always put on military clothes. It was her wish, her dream since she was little, until she grew up. She always wanted to join. She told everyone, this is my dream. Her dream was always on the way of the chairman’s ideas and philosophy, she wanted it very much.
When Mardîn joined, the whole camp followed her for her joining. We are always proud because of this culture. We are proud with her affiliation, we are also proud with her martyrdom and these ideas and philosophy are for us, for our family in the future and as long as we breathe, as long as we will follow the traces of Şehîd Mardîn. We will always follow their footsteps, follow the footsteps of Şehîd Zindan and Sarina, follow the footsteps of Şehîd Zehra. We will always be in their footsteps.
We as a family are proud of our Şehîd and will always follow them.
When we learned that she fell Şehîd, it had a great influence on the family, on the father, the mother, the sisters and the surroundings. We will always be under this influence, because once we overcome this influence, we will no longer walk on their line. We will walk on that lineage every day.
We will walk in their footsteps and we will also point them out. We as a family will follow the blood of Şehîd Zehra Penaber, the blood of Şehîd Zindan and Şehîd Sarina and Şehîd Mardîn as long as there is still blood in our bodies. For they have handed over the flag of freedom to us and we will always uphold and raise this flag. As Şehîd Zehra said, “If it goes with our soul, we will also give this.” If it is necessary we will also give them and always walk on their footsteps.
Call to Bakûr – It is enough of silence.
Finally, I would like to make an appeal. First to the society that lives in the north of Kurdistan. It is enough of the silence. It is really enough with the silence. In the meantime, the heart of every mother is on fire, no matter which mother’s heart is on fire, it makes no difference to us. Every mother’s heart is burning. Today the bodies of mothers are burning for a guerrilla, in fact the bodies of mothers are burning. That’s enough, stand up. No one makes a difference. These soldiers who are waging war and dying in these places today. What for? Who are they? They are also the Kurdish society. Erdogan does not go, no one comes from outside and falls Şehîd, inside the brothers and sisters they fall Şehîd. Enough, stop being silent. Even if you cannot do anything in the metropolises, bring the voices out of the houses. Enough.
Call to Başûr – Kurdistan is not free as long as the Turkish state can move here.
To the society in the south of Kurdistan. The society of Kurdistan, we say today, we are brothers and sisters. In the south of Kurdistan, people live like in a free country, but unfortunately our Kurdistan is not free. Kurdistan, the south of Kurdistan is not free. Why is it not free? Because today the Turkish state can come quite comfortably and attack the children of Kurdistan with chemistry on the soil of Kurdistan. This Kurdistan is not a free Kurdistan. This Kurdistan will not be free because of this culture.
The society in the south of Kurdistan should not be silent. Every day that passes, another mother’s heart will burn. Another sister will be without her sister, another brother without his brother. Enough with the burning of families of those living here, enough.”
