NEWS CENTER – Eulàlia Reguant, a member of parliament representing the pro-independence CUP party in the Catalan Parliament, described Turkey’s attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria as a systematic violation of international law. Reguant gave the message that the Catalan people stand by the Kurdish people.
Stating that for years, Turkey has been threatening the project in Northern and Eastern Syria as a way of attacking the Kurdish people, as it has systematically done in Bakur, Reguant said, “The Erdogan regime is currently complicit with the silence of the international community and especially the Spanish state, which maintains its military relations with Turkey. bombarding and occupying the region. This systematic violation of international law is serious and alarming and is taking advantage of the fact that all eyes are focused on the conflict in Ukraine,” she said.
“Catalonia is the only parliament that recognizes the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, and we systematically condemn Erdogan’s violations of international law,” said Reguant, adding that this situation also led to threats from the Turkish consulate.
Emphasizing Turkey’s relationship with ISIS, Reguant said, “There have been longstanding suspicions about the Turkish regime’s relationship with ISIS or that Erdoğan is using ISIS for his own interests. It is a serious and embarrassing situation that he is taking advantage of this reality to fight in the region. This shows his most authoritarian and despotic side. This fact should be added to the long list of violations to break the silence of the international community and above all to cut off relations with Erdogan.”
Reguant evaluated the world’s silence against the attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria as a betrayal of all kinds of democratic values and stated that this situation says a lot about the quality of democracy in Europe.
Reguant concluded his words as follows: “The Catalan people have been, are and will be, as the Catalan Parliament stated more than a year ago, on the side of the Kurdish resistance and the defenders of the democratic confederalism project and its values.”
