PARIS – We followed the young women in the streets of Paris and TekoJIN member Sozan Ombor told our news agency the following after yesterday’s protests in Paris:
“December 23, 2023 has gone down in the history of Kurds and internationalists because three of our comrades were brutally murdered again yesterday. One of the comrades was Evîn. She was a pioneer of the women’s movement, which also influenced the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”. She was a very good comrade of Şehîd Sara, i.e. Sakine Cansiz. Sakine Cansiz, Fidan Dogan and Leyla Şeylemez were also killed in Paris 10 years ago because another murder like this took place. We know who is behind it, but both the French state and the Turkish state deny it and do not admit it.
We know it’s not just a racist who did this. He was the one who pulled the trigger, but Turkey’s secret service is behind it. We see this as a continuation of January 9, 2013 and we will not remain silent.
As Kurds and internationalists, we will take to the streets every day, as we did today, December 24th. Just like we were on the streets in Paris.
Just as it happened yesterday when the police came at us with batons and tear gas, so it was the case today. We got tear gas in the most brutal way, but we still stayed on the streets. We as young women and also as young men, what we can do in response is, just like today, to be on the streets, not leaving the state alone, holding them accountable and acting in a more organized way.
Şehîd Evîn and Şehîd Sara paved the way for us, which we also want to walk.”
