VIENNA – Yesterday there was a protest in the Austrian capital in front of the federal headquarters of the Green Party. The internationalist activists said: “We are asking the party why they opposed the parliamentary motion to condemn Turkey’s violations of international law.”
The international community of states is silent on the war crimes of the occupying Turkish state in southern Kurdistan and the invasion operation against Rojava and north-eastern Syria that began on November 19 and even states that they understand the “security concerns” of the occupying Turkish state while the fascist regime in Turkey is preparing to massacre Kurdish society in Kurdistan, to annihilate it. The activists denounced the torture and mass imprisonments in northern Kurdistan, the use of chemical weapons in southern Kurdistan and the targeted attacks against the civilian infrastructure in Rojava by the occupying Turkish state. For the internationalist activists it is clear.
The activists of the Defend Kurdistan campaign have been visiting the Green Party headquarters in Vienna unannounced since noon today and are calling on the party to change course in its foreign policy. The Greens in Parliament recently rejected a motion to condemn Turkey’s violations of international law. “By rejecting the application, the Greens are making themselves vicarious agents of the Turkish regime ,” said Soghomon Tehlirian, a spokesman for the Vienna branch of Defend Kurdistan. He asks:“What happened to the old values of the Greens? What about human rights now? We are here today to remind the Greens of their supposed values, we demand a change of course. They should notice that there are people who take a close look at what kind of politics they are pursuing.”
The Greens could act as role models in the government, explains Tehlirian: “They could actively promote peace politics instead of being on the wrong side. That would also be in line with Austria’s neutrality, which is always talked about.”
The internationalist activists of Defend Kurdistan announce further actions.
