BEHDINAN – Gas bombs used by the Turkish army to suffocate the guerrilla were displayed in Werxelê, a part of the Medya Defense Zones. One of the documented gas bombs is marked as “Gas Hand Grenade” and its production date is “06.2014”.

The invading Turkish state used intensely chemical gases and many different weapons, which are forbidden to be used in war, especially during the new invasion attacks launched on April 14, 2022. In the 8-month war balance sheet announced by the HPG on 15 December, it was stated that the Turkish state attacked 3,152 times with banned weapons.

The balance sheet covers the period between 14 April and 14 December. The chemical and banned weapons used were detailed as follows: phosphorus bomb, thermobaric bomb, tactical nuclear bomb and chemical weapons.

GAS BOMBS PROHIBITED IN WAR CONDITIONS

One of the banned weapons that the Turkish state frequently resorts to is gas bombs.

These gases are among the weapons banned under warfare with the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons (also known as the Chemical Weapons Convention) opened for signature in Paris on 13 January 1993 and entered into force in 1997. Turkey is among the 193 signatory countries.

While Article I (5) of this Convention commits not to use these gases “as an instrument of war by each State Party”, in Article II (7) it is pointed out that these gases “cause emotional irritation or physical incapacity in humans”.

CHEMICAL GAS IS ACCORDING TO THE SILENT OPCW

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which shuts its eyes to the chemical attacks of the Turkish state, also says on its website, “Materials such as riot control agents and tear gas are considered chemical weapons if they are used as a method of warfare.”
