NEWS CENTER – Turkey’s colonialist state tradition is one marked by massacres and genocides throughout history. Even the “proverbs ” that say “no stone is left unturned” are the words of a colonialist and genocidal tradition. “Proverbs” or “gotîne peşîyan” based on lived stories also say that there is “no example of the bad”are. But that doesn’t fit Turkish history and Turkish state tradition at all. Because in the tradition of the colonialist, genocidal state there is hardly a positive section of history that could serve as a model. Because his state tradition was first known for the palace coups in his own country, then for the massacres of his own Turkmen tribes and finally for the genocides of the neighboring tribes. In other words, the Ottoman map, which reads “from the Balkans to the Great Wall of China, from the Caucasus to the Arabian Peninsula ,” is actually a bloody map.
Even if they lived with the Societies from time to time, they never did anything but hatch treacherous plans and dream of future massacres. From the Seljuks to the Ottomans, from the Ottomans to the monstrosities they call republics, almost all have in common that they are based on massacre and genocide. Even if they find nothing to attack, the struggles for the throne and power within their own rule are their most significant story. Intrigues, conspiracies and base games of father against son, son against brother, brother against his successors are the outstanding features of the Turkish state tradition.
After meeting Gladio or better known as counter-guerrilla methods developed by the nation-state structure with recruited cadres, this tradition has been strengthened and has become a regular and organized reality.
The Cyprus war of 1974 was actually a yardstick for the synthesis of this state tradition and counter-guerrilla culture. In fact, Cyprus was the area where the state’s anti-guerrilla training was conducted until then. Even before the effects of the Cyprus war were exhausted, the Maraş massacre on December 19, 1978 came to light.
The Maraş massacre was not such an ordinary event. The first group, led by Rêber APO, left Ankara and preferred the border lines between Kurdistan and Turkey in their first organizational activities. Because cultural assimilation, the so-called white genocide, was experienced more intensively there. Thus, the ideological and spiritual wind of the group, which wanted to leave Ankara and awaken hope for freedom in the countries of Kurdistan, could unfold on these lines. For this reason, Antep, Maraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Elazığ and Dersim from the west, Kars and Ağrı from the north and Batman from further in were the areas that opened the doors for the first group phase of our movement. For this reason, the factional movement was mainly organized in these areas and was able to find its own ground there. Our party, the PKK, was founded on November 27, 1978 on the basis of the burgeoning glimmers of hope.
Therefore, the Special Warfare Department, the center of anti-guerrilla warfare within the Turkish state structure, wanted to prevent the PKK before its declaration was implemented. They had made all preparations accordingly. They have trained the MHP gangs accordingly. The MHP never went directly on a confrontational course with the PKK, but was ready for mass murder. The Movie When Will the Sun Risewas then shown in cinemas as nationalist, racist training material for this purpose. The title of the film made it clear that it had been edited by the Special Operations Division. Since there were no widespread mass media such as television, etc. at that time, cinema culture was also widespread. The Maraş massacre was triggered by a bomb thrown into a cinema where fascists were staying. From December 19 to December 24, hundreds of Kurdish and Alevi homes and businesses were looted and burned; hundreds of Kurds, Kurds and Alevis were massacred again.
However, our party, the PKK, has resisted this massacre with its existing power and means by invading society and has managed to grow even more. İsmail Selen, the then head of the Special Warfare Department, who believed he could stop the development of the PKK, confessed “We made a big mistake in 1978” that they carried out the Maraş massacre too soon. Since Rêber APO correctly analyzed the historical character of the colonialist genocidal regime, he could more or less predict in advance where and what they would do. Even then Rêber APO said:“From the very beginning they made mistakes in the PKK’s tactics and in the development of the PKK. But they would have drowned us in a spoonful of water if we had not given life the meaning we give it” to define this historical process.
Again Rêber APO:“The Maraş massacre of 1978 (December 23, 1978) was a direct threat to the people of Kurdistan. We declared the party and a month later they imposed the massacre. It means, “If you take a step forward, we will massacre you.” This is indeed a very serious threat and warning. Subsequently, these massacres were extended in a chain to Malatya, Adıyaman and gradually to all of Kurdistan. The Maraş massacre was carried out under the direction of İnönü in the early years of the party’s founding, during the Ecevit period. Although this massacre was attributed to the fascist Turkish looters, it was carried out with the green light of the state. The main purpose of this massacre was a reaction to the officially declared path of liberation that our society, albeit very limited and slow. The enemy has said: “Do you want awakening and liberation? Here’s a massacre for you!” The place and time are most convenient for them. Fascists from below do it, social democrats from above and Ecevit gets the green light. They are all the same. They agree behind the front lines and complete this task. But they reflect their contradictions to people. So they try to deceive the Kurdish and Turkish people a little more.” They agree behind the front lines and complete this task. But they reflect their contradictions to people. So they try to deceive the Kurdish and Turkish people a little more.” They agree behind the front lines and complete this task. But they reflect their contradictions to people. So they try to deceive the Kurdish and Turkish people a little more.”
The massacre of December 28, 2011 in Roboskî is not independent of this reality of the colonialist genocide regime. After the Maraş massacre, the PKK was officially proclaimed. The PKK managed to emerge stronger from this massacre the moment it was born, and by its prominence it became an unstoppable sun of freedom. Therefore, Kurdish society has become the target of the colonialist, genocidal, fascist Turkish state wherever it is. Since the murdered Kurd was Kurd, they never hesitated to commit massacres when they found an opportunity and to defend themselves more or less demagogically. This is its historical character, directed against societies. Space and boundaries are irrelevant.
In this context, the massacre tradition of the colonialist fascist Turkish state with the fascist AKP-MHP power structure has met the most massacre reality in its history. The Ottoman and Turanian traditions came to power with this alliance and the so-called oppositionists became their background supporters. The fascist AKP-MHP alliance is the last chance of the colonialist, genocidal regime.
It is indeed necessary to assess and address the massive attacks on Metina, Zap, Avaşin and Rojava against this reality. As a youth movement, we need to read our history of struggle properly and bring it to consciousness and pull our society out of this unrelenting genocidal bracket of history. We will owe the record of massacres we have witnessed throughout history to the victory we will achieve against this last intensified massacre of AKP-MHP fascism.
History grants Kurdistan Freedom Forces and youth such an honorable victory. Therefore, it is time to meet with our comrades who wrote heroic epics in Metina, Zap and Avaşin and welcome the victory. Otherwise, the correct approximation with history cannot be realized. In Iraq, where the world united and destroyed Saddam, no Saddam was convicted for the massacre of the Kurds. Just like in the Maraş massacre, nobody was punished. Ökkeş Kenger, one of the main perpetrators of the Maraş massacre, was sentenced to death by the courts-martial. Then he was rewarded by being elected as a deputy of the same Maraş.
Therefore, we will be the judge and executioner of history. We will not deviate from divine justice and we will get what we deserve. The story now offers us this opportunity and calls for the revenge of Maraş and Roboskî in the person of the Şehîds of Metina, Zap and Avaşin.
It is time to drown this massacring, genocidal fascist Turkish state in the blood it has shed in our own freedom time by saying “The time is right now” . It’s time for him; it is time to sing the ‘Song of the Victorious Marcher’ not individually, but all together.
