BRESCIA – Yesterday afternoon, December 17th, in Brescia (Italy), numerous friends of Kurdish society took to the streets to show solidarity with the societies of Rojava and Kurdistan, which are being attacked by the occupying Turkish state. After a public meeting, at which members of a civilian delegation who had returned from north-eastern Syria a few days ago, spoke, participants took part in an impromptu demonstration that passed through the main streets of the city centre.
The demonstrators carried two banners, one reading “Defend Kurdistan – Stop Turkish Bombing of Rojava and Northern Iraq”, the other with the slogans of the women’s revolution “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”. During the campaign, numerous posters were also displayed with the picture of the chairman Abdullah Öcalan, who has been imprisoned in complete isolation on the Turkish prison island of Imrali since 1999, and the inscription “Freedom for Öcalan, peace for Kurdistan”
The demonstration reached the main street of the city center, Corso Zanardelli, where they indicated the presence of the shops of Calzedonia and Benetton, multinational companies doing big business with Turkey, and called on civilians to boycott the products of these companies . “This Christmas season we call on everyone not to buy products from companies that do business with Turkey and fund the wars in Rojava and northern Iraq wanted by Erdogan”, the protesters said, recalling how important it is to continue the mobilization against the war in Rojava, to denounce the use of banned chemical weapons in the south by the occupying Turkish state and to pledge for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and for a peace solution for the societies of Kurdistan battle.
