VENICE – This morning dozens of Italian activists from the social centers of the Northeast and ¡Ya Basta! Edi Bese! the Turkish Airlines check-in counter at Venice Marco Polo International Airport to protest against the occupying Turkish state and in solidarity with the people of Rojava. A large banner reading “Stop the Turkish attack! Defend Kurdistan! Biji Rojava” was hung at the counter of the Turkish airline that checked in passengers’ luggage en route to Istanbul this morning.
Leaflets providing information about the background to the protest were distributed in front of the counter and throughout the airport. During the campaign, the activists received numerous signs of recognition from the population.
The initiative is part of mobilizations aimed at drawing attention to Erdogan’s crimes in north-eastern Syria and Rojava. These initiatives are aimed at Turkish institutions in Europe or at those that represent Turkish state interests, as well as at companies that are in economic exchange with Turkey. The action is part of the week of mobilization and boycott in solidarity with Kurdish society launched by the Defend Kurdistan Italy campaign.
