As you have stated, the practice of 2022, which is the last link of the concept of denial and annihilation of the Kurds in the 100th year, was a year that witnessed the most extensive invasion attacks in our history of struggle. Again, there was the practice of a year in which enormous resistances were experienced, equivalent to the attacks carried out. These attacks, carried out by the AKP-MHP fascism on the basis of the concept of annihilation, manifested themselves primarily as the deepening of the systematic war policies carried out against Leader Apo. This process was deepened with the invasion operation launched on April 14 in Zap, Avaşîn and Metina against the guerrilla, the main force of the Freedom Movement. In fact, we entered the year 2022 by holding comprehensive meetings as the Women’s Movement. While evaluating the practice of 2021 at the YJA Star and HPG Military Council meetings at the beginning of the year, we discussed the enemy orientations, the extent of the resistance in the person of Serhats, Çavrês and Cumaliler, and our level of realizing the democratic modernity guerrilla by evaluating the situations that emerged this year. We made certain determinations and predictions for 2022 by evaluating our shortcomings and mistakes as well as developments and achievements. We have developed plans to implement the democratic people’s war strategy at the highest level. In this sense, the AKP-MHP fascist alliance and their international supporters for the year 2022, both in the center and in all the meetings held in the fields, Again, important determinations were made that the target of the local collaborators is to genocide the Kurdish people in the context of Leader Apo and the PKK, that the Women’s Freedom Struggle will be targeted in particular, and that the destruction and occupation operations will be escalated to an extreme extent in this sense. In terms of 2022, there was a consensus of opinion and understanding that we would be faced with a very tough invasion attack carried out with international support. This foreshadowed that what was left unfinished would continue uninterruptedly in 2022. In short, the system forces that remained unresolved in the region needed new justifications to maintain the power of the AKP-MHP fascism, which attacked left and right by risking everything to continue its existence. It was obvious that all these situations forced the year 2022 to be a character in which the war of existence and nonexistence would continue, both for us and for the enemy. As a matter of fact, we know well the character of our enemy and the mentality of destruction and denial he carries. Therefore, in all our meetings, we had discussions on how we should stand against the ongoing destruction attacks, how we should respond, what kind of tactics we should apply, and in what style we can nullify the attacks. As a result of all these, in essence; We have come to the conclusion that we can only defeat the fascism of the century by exhibiting the resistance of the century, that we can perpetuate the values created with so much struggle, and that we can only pay our debts to our martyrs in this way. In this sense, we were ready for such a process in terms of awareness, consciousness, understanding and morale. As the YJA Star forces, we are the self-defense force of both women and our people, being aware of the character of the period and the duties imposed by it, and we entered the year by determining the physical freedom of our Leader as our primary claim. In addition, by 2022, we would enter the 50th year of the Leadership struggle and the 30th year of the women’s army. This made it necessary to attribute great success to these historical years. This was one of our motivations to prepare strongly for the year. We welcomed March 8 with the awareness created by these determinations, the awareness of their responsibilities and the enthusiasm and excitement of being militants who will make the values created for 30 years permanent. This excitement overflowed from the mountains to the streets. Again, our people announced the enthusiasm of welcoming the 50th anniversary of the Leader’s struggle to the whole world with the fires in the Newroz grounds. Our people demonstrated the certainty of our existence and the indestructibility of our people at the Newroz grounds. This was a great morale and motivation to strengthen the resistance against the attacks that would develop. Likewise, the Imrali Resistance was the greatest morale and strength. We welcomed the process with this morale and this strength. We have equipped all our forces not only with defense and action, but also with the claim of dealing a major blow to the fascist and genocidal mentality of the AKP-MHP. We have fed this into the preparatory work that continues in almost all of our fields, and we entered the year 2022 with the enthusiasm of March 8 and Newroz. As a matter of fact, we see how effective this level of preparation is when we look at the resistance that has developed until 2022. How do you evaluate the war style of the Turkish army during the year-long operations? Were there any differences compared to previous years? Again, despite all these attacks, a very intense resistance continued. In this sense, what was the level of success in the war tactics of the restructured guerrilla?
As we stated at the beginning, 2022 was not an ordinary operation period. There was a war intensified by the Turkish state, whose international concept was shaped by the goal of persecuting free Kurdishness. All kinds of technical support were provided to the Turkish state during this year, and many immoral practices were allowed. We tried to reflect the methods and styles applied in this war, which lasted throughout the year, with piece by piece documents as much as possible. However, we can say that what we reflect is not even a third of what we cannot reflect. We could only give certain frames with the resources at hand. Even such a partial level of reflection created a different reflex, anger, reaction in the whole society. However, what happened was far beyond that. Therefore, in order to understand these attacks well, it is necessary to see the background of the reality of the system, which is gradually increasing fascism, embodied in the AKP-MHP concrete. It is necessary to understand why the attack was so severe, what were the reasons. First of all, there is a fear of the free Kurdishness, which finds itself in the leadership line, at the bottom of this attack. Again, there is the fear of the philosophy of freedom, which has made such a suppressed people’s reality almost the most political people in the world. There is a stance for freedom that threatens the system existentially and turns its plans upside down, and there is a desire to end the struggle. In this sense, there was a concept in which even the forces that never agreed, just like in the 99 conspiracy. The AKP-MHP fascist government, which bases itself on this concept, the situation in Syria, Iraq’s search for prestige and the developing social crises in Iran, Again, it prepared the infrastructure for these attacks by taking advantage of the conjunctures such as the economic crises in other parts of the world, especially in Europe, and the grounds created by the war in Russia and Ukraine. It developed these attacks by taking all kinds of military technical, financial and political support from NATO, especially the USA. In this sense, he attempted an attack that was risky, reckless and revealed everything with all its ugliness. In a way, he had to do this because his life depended on it, because he saw his own end. Of course, that made him more reckless. In this sense, it turned to every field, person and institution that received the least inspiration from the PKK struggle, especially İmralı. In order to isolate the leadership, it included all areas of self-defense resistance within its scope. Of course, the main axis of the attacks is the guerrilla, was the center of resistance of the women’s defense force. In addition, they aimed to break the Rojava Revolution, which inspired all the peoples of the Middle East, to seize the gains of the people of Rojava, to occupy those lands and change their demographic structure. Again, they wanted to end the gains our people made in Bashur, in the Maxmur areas, especially in Shengal. They even tried to attack every area where there was resistance up to the Asos area on the Rojhilat line, and since the beginning of the year, they developed various attacks targeting the civilian population in these areas.
As we mentioned, the main axis of the attacks was the guerrilla center, hence the Medya Defense Areas. After his early success here, he would intensify his attacks in other areas and fill the gap in the region with his own activity by invading Kurdistan. All these calculations, however, hit the resistance. The operation, which started with intense air attacks on Medya Defense Areas on 14 April, continued with Zap’s landings covering all areas on 17 April. Afterwards, it continued with an intensity covering the areas we call Avaşîn, Metîna and the west of the Zap. In these attacks, which continued uninterrupted for 9 months, there were air attacks that could finish a country in one night, and although these attacks decreased from time to time throughout the operation, they were never missing. Tons of bombs and howitzer mortars were thrown in the areas where the friends were.
Despite all his techniques, the enemy, who could not get a result as he expected, could not even get close to many war tunnels, let alone the first month. They took the biggest blow in their history, both from the battle tunnels and from the heavy hits of our mobile troops. They had great losses. As a matter of fact, those who waged the war admitted this situation with their own mouths within the first week and immediately tried to intervene in the situation. They did not stand against the heavy blow they received and the loss of soldiers. Much later, we tried to show with various images that they took all these into consideration and did not attach importance to the loss of soldiers. They acted as if it had never happened, burning the corpses of soldiers and throwing them off the cliffs, hitting them with warplanes and destroying them. Again, perhaps more chemical gases were used on our friends who resisted with great will in the war tunnels than Hitler used in the gas chambers. The reason behind his attacking left and right, targeting civilians and politicians, and turning to intellectuals and democrats, is the failure they have experienced against all efforts. This is a reality on which everyone who understands war agrees. In this sense, attitudes that are incompatible with the law and morality of war and human dignity throughout the year are essentially the practice of the Turkish army to drag itself to the end. Moreover, despite the great army propaganda and all the support it received, the result at the end of the year is obvious. The guerrilla, who restructured itself on the basis of the Revolutionary People’s War, developed a style and tactical richness against the enemy’s technique, and professionalized in this day by day, was in an active defense of its own areas, although not completely, it managed to stop the advance of the enemy at the cost of its life despite all the unequal conditions, and was able to nullify the enemy’s games. The success of the strategy on which it is based is an indicator of its effectiveness.
So, what is the force that keeps the YJA Star fighters, who have displayed a very strong resistance despite such intense attacks, standing and fighting against all these attacks?
Of course, fighting against such relentless attacks requires, above all, a tremendous willpower, a love of life, a great belief in freedom, a great commitment to the revolution. He wants a great devotion to the peoples of Kurdistan and a justification for revenge for the atrocities committed. Again, we are fighting with our confidence in our Leader’s way of life and war, and our belief in victory. He wants a faith based on the resistance spirit created by the martyrs. This is the force that creates YJA Star and always fights with the same faith and enthusiasm, with the same ambition to succeed. We, as YJA Star forces, are fighting by adopting the Revolutionary People’s War strategy line. That’s why our commitment to our people keeps us strong. The desire to avenge the tortures inflicted on our people, to avenge every murdered woman, Kurdish child, and our comrades who were martyred with chemicals makes us fight. The will and meaningful resistance of our comrades who resist under torture in the dungeons makes us fight. In other words, we have many reasons to fight and fight effectively. There is an enlightenment created by the women’s freedom struggle in our brains and souls, a sense of freedom created by the struggle, a sense of belonging to oneself. As YJA Star, throughout our war history, it has been in the direction of investing itself in the spirit party level that has developed both tactically and in defense and attack, and to be the pioneer of this. The foundation of our women’s movement was shaped on these principles. Therefore, being the leader of the line requires fighting stronger. We can say that in 2022, the zenith of Zîlanization took place in the person of YJA Star fighters. The new era tactic of the Democratic Modernity guerrilla, both in spirit, in resistance and in terms of tactical innovation, has now found its place in this year’s stances and participation. It was a question of using the tactic correctly both in tunnel wars and in mobile teams. As of the year, all guerrilla tactics were implemented. In tunnel wars, a stance of will that nullified the chemical and tactical nuclear attacks of the enemy was revealed, and by striking the enemy effectively through these tunnels, it became not only defensive but also offensive power. In this sense, what role does the YJA Star struggle play in the development and universalization of the women’s struggle?
The year 2022 was a year that witnessed great freedom resistances, take-offs, organizations and rebellions for women. The stances and rejections against the increasing fascism, social and nature destruction all over the world were developed primarily by women. All these resistance processes that took place during the year became concrete in the last September in Iran, in the resistance that raised all women against the Iranian regime, one of the most visible faces of the male-dominated system, in the face of the massacre imposed on women, who thinks, creates, is themselves, feels, in the person of Jîna Emini. . After this resistance, which developed under the leadership of women, it spread to all segments of society. Jin Jiyan, the slogan of Azadi, and the serhildans that developed here took the form of ‘Zen, Zendeki, Azadi’ and later became universal in other languages all over the world. Of course, the formula ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ has a great role in the resistance to be so dominant and embraced by all segments of the society on a universal scale. Because this is more than just a slogan, it expresses a reality. ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ is the embodiment of a view of life, an understanding of the sanctity of life, that it can only attain its true meaning with the female essence, and that freedom can only be lived in this way. Again, the formation language of the universe, which has been corrupted by the domination efforts of the sovereign mind, However, the essence and summary of the philosophy that women’s freedom will move forward in its own balance with the realization of its freedom. In this sense, it is the expression of the truth of life to the flesh and bone. Its acceptance and adoption have a connection with its addressing this meaning of life and its definition of social morality. In other words, it is a formula that expresses the solution to all the problems experienced by women, societies, peoples and nature against the male-dominated system. In other words, the shortest formula of the Democratic, Ecological, Women’s Libertarian Paradigm is the definition of the social liberation project, hence the Leadership difference, the PKK’s difference, and the difference of the women’s liberation ideology that became organized in PAJK. The Women’s Freedom Movement and its self-defense force YJA Star, organized around the meaning of this slogan, With its relentless struggle for 30 years, it has proven that women’s power, organized on the right foundations, is the solution to all problems, at the level it has achieved today. With such a consciousness and struggle, she has proven with her 30 years of practice that a woman can correctly define herself as a gender and gain her identity. The developments captured in this struggle have made freedom and revolution not a utopia and made it visible. Therefore, these uprisings, which started in Rojhilatê Kurdistan and spread throughout Iran, reveal the truth of the Leadership paradigm. At the same time, it is proof of the strength and justification of the resistance of the women’s freedom struggle that has been going on for 30 years, and that you have risen on the right grounds. In this sense, we salute these ongoing resistances, Again, we commemorate with gratitude all freedom seekers who have been martyred for this cause. All of this is thanks to Leader Apo’s endless efforts and efforts. It is thanks to our comrades who adhered to the line of women’s freedom, believed and became martyrs for this cause. When we look back at our 30-year history as the women’s army, we see that the efforts, spilled blood and sweat yield results and give seeds. The universalization of the motto ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ is the expression of this. In this sense, it is both our reason for struggle and the result of our struggle. It is the slogan of freedom that the Zîlans, Bêrîtans, Saras, Azîmes, Delalles, Doğa, Berivans, Evins, Sara and Rûkens and many more of our female martyrs brought into existence, gave life to, and made meaningful with their martyrdom. In this sense, our Free Women’s Movement, Our female guerrilla resistance, which is still under the umbrella of YJA Star, has become an exemplary model for all women of the world with what they have achieved and what the female power will do. Because seeing the power of women resisting the most brutal and brutal attacks of fascism in harsh conditions such as war creates a sense of self-awareness in all women, believing in their organization and owning their identity more.
The World Women’s Conference was also held in line with the struggle of women’s liberation movements throughout the year. Many activists from 41 countries, representatives of various organizations came together to discuss their common goals, objectives, fighting styles and methods in line with this slogan. A union of forces was made against the male-dominated mentality. It was truly exciting. This is because this means that the determinations of our Leader as “women should experience a separate nationhood against the male-dominated system, there is a need for women’s confederalism in this sense” gradually come to life, and the struggles that have been going on for years come together in a pot and result in results. In other words, it does not only defend women’s rights in a narrow sense, but also expresses the struggle front of women’s freedom mentality against male domination mentality. There is a fierce battle of two lines. In this sense, we greet all the components participating in this conference with the spirit of freedom, morale and enthusiasm, and celebrate their meaningful work. Also referring to the YJA Star power by such a female component; We would like to state that the determination of “the struggle of women in the mountains is our greatest source of inspiration” is a separate source of morale and strength for us. The fact that all the resistances experienced during the year were crowned with such a conference at the end of the year confirms the determination that “The 21st century will be the century of women in our Leadership”. Therefore, when we look at the developments during the year, it is possible to determine that there is a women’s spring. What happened in terms of both the world women’s struggle and the women’s struggle in the Middle East represents a first. The biggest ground and source on which this is based is the Kurdish women’s struggle for freedom, their insistence on freedom, and their organized power. Its architect is Leader Apo. We believe that this momentum gained during the year will continue to increase in the coming years.
How will you prepare for 2023 as YJA Star forces and what is your claim for 2023?
First of all, although there are only a few days left until the end of the year, neither the invading attacks nor the resistance against it is over yet. Attacks continue in Metîna in the Zap, and the guerrilla has and will have moves against it. The nature and causes of the attacks that continued in 2022 show that 2023 will also be a year of intensifying war. First of all, the AKP-MHP fascist alliance, which wanted to enter the 100th anniversary of the Republic and Lausanne with a new Kurdish denial, and thought that it would extend its life in this way, could not get the desired results in 2022. It feels obliged to realize this in order to survive and to keep the Ottoman dreams alive. Again III. The system forces, which remained unresolved during the World War II, continue to see Leader Apo and the social projects he developed as a threat to them. As always, in the middle of this conflict, the Kurdish people will be the first to be sacrificed and made a concession. In this sense, the existing concept will continue and they will attack Leader Apo, the ideology and paradigm he created more. Because this is their last chance. Therefore, the concept of annihilation based on violence, femicide, the PKK and the extermination of the Kurdish people will intensify more and more. We understand this from the increasing attacks at the end of the year. Although the use of chemical gas was on the agenda, the Turkish army attacked the positions it could not reduce by increasing the use of chemicals. The Turkish army, which was helpless in the face of the great resistance against the martyr Xursi in Zap, once again murdered 11 of our friends as a result of chemical gases. Again, when it realized that it could not break the will of women on the war front, the Turkish state increased its attacks on the revolutionaries and activists who carried out ideological, social and political activities in the social sphere. Therefore, targeting Nagihan Akarsel is not in vain. It is not in vain that all the women activists working in the social and political field were arrested and the HDP was targeted by the BDP. The fact that Evinfriend (Emine Kara) and Mir Perwer and Abdullah Kizil were targeted as targets in a second Paris massacre in France did not result from an ordinary approach. Just as in the first Paris massacre, Sara, Rojbin and Ronahi friends were targeted and a new concept of attack was created, so this second Paris massacre is a sign of invading attacks that will continue to increase. With the increasing nationalist fascist wave, almost the prohibition of Kurdish language and culture, The development of systematic attacks on Kurdish intellectuals and artists is becoming commonplace. By enacting the latest ‘censorship law’, it is desired to create a social ground that will not allow anyone to even breathe without permission. For example, academics are arrested just for expressing their opinions. With the fascist tendencies that we will mention further, Kurdistan and Turkey are wanted to be turned into a complete open prison. In addition, attacks against other parts of Kurdistan, Rojavay, Shengal and Maxmur have not fallen off the agenda. In particular, the fascist alliance does not even feel the need to hide its targets of attack against Rojava and its preparations for this. All these are evidences that show the character of the year. As a movement, we are aware and aware of this. No one should doubt that we will resist any kind of attack that may develop, with a great spirit of resistance that has emerged in Zap, Avaşîn and Metina, as still friends continue to do so. The war experiences we have gained in the past years, the capability we have achieved in the Revolutionary People’s War strategy, the level we have reached are the main pillars of further improving and maintaining the performance achieved in Zap, Metina and Avaşîn. Again, our greatest strength is the anger and ambition we feel against fascism, which uses isolation against our Leader, annihilation of our people, massacres against women and chemical gases against the guerrilla, thermobaric bombs, and the resentment we sharpen to destroy him. As people who have tasted freedom, our honorable stance that does not accept an unfree life is our clarity in our life choices. Again, it is our duty to continue such a resistance by raising it, to our great heroic martyrs who sacrificedly resisted without any personal approach or expectation in the most difficult conditions. It is a requirement of our commitments and commitments to make their dreams come true.
In this sense, we will make 2023 a year of total resistance against male-dominated fascist colonial powers with the slogan of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ as well as total attacks. We will not stop until we achieve the physical freedom of Leader Apo, who touched our lives with this magic formula, and will develop the resistance in a way that will not leave a woman whose motto ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ does not reach. In this sense, in 2023, we will develop the war style that has proven itself in Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn, and fight with the action style of Martyr Sara and Martyr Rûken, and we will deal the biggest blow to colonialism. We will fight to end the AKP-MHP fascist-gang organization. In this way, we will make 2023 a year of revenge. This year will be the year of holding the fascists, betrayers and collaborators to account.
As YJA Star, you announce your war balance sheet to the public every year. What is the balance sheet for this year?
First of all, YJA Star celebrates the glorious resistance of all our commanders and fighters, who fought in very difficult conditions, with a great spirituality and belief in victory, and protected and developed the free women’s line, and their creative and effective actions that applied the tactics of the period with their Apoist spirit and boundless will. , we greet you. The year 2022 has been the year with the most action in YJA Star’s 30-year history of struggle and warfare. Again, it was a year in which the spirit of attack made itself felt at the top in the face of all the relentless attacks of the fascist, occupying forces, and tactically richness and creativity were applied at a high level. The cost of this war was high. We think that our balance sheet is of such a size as to reveal the nature of the ongoing war. Accordingly, if we put the one-year war balance sheet of YJA Star in the narrowest sense:
- 121 of our female fighters were martyred. Due to the intensity of the war and the conditions, the situations of our 13 friends have not been clarified yet.
- YJA Star performed 363 unique actions.
