GENEVA – Today at 11:30, under the leadership of TCŞ and TekoJIN members, a civil disobedience action is held with internationalist youth at the OHCHR (High Commission for Human Rights), which is a part of the UN (National Union). The silence of the UN against the chemical attacks on the mountains of Kurdistan and the artillery attacks on Rojava is being protested by the youth with an act of civil disobedience.
Young people also stated the following briefly;
“Although on 9 November the WHO (World Health Organization) promised a meeting on chemical weapons, but so far they have not contacted the activists. For this demand of today’s youth, it is necessary to directly contact the authorities of the institution. “We will not leave until someone in charge of the National Unity is held accountable for his silence
The event continues with speeches on the current situation and the slogans “Long live Rojava resistance”, “Stop chemical attacks” and “Do your UN duty”.
During the protest, the youth made the following statement.
“The fascist Turkish state is in four parts of Kurdistan, from stone to soil; from women to children, from the old to the slaughter. We, as the patriotic revolutionary youth of Kurdistan, will hold accountable for these massacres. Although WHO (World Health Organization) promised a meeting on chemical weapons on 9 November, but so far they have not contacted anyone. For this request of the youth, we would like to meet with the officials of the institution directly. We will not leave until someone in charge of the United Nations is accountable for their silence.”
The action continued for approximately one hour with speeches on the current situation and slogans such as “Long live Rojava resistance”, “Stop chemical attacks” and “Do your UN duty”.
OHCHR OFFICIALS QUIET
In the following minutes, the officials in the commission building came to the action area of the young people. A conversation was held here with the authorities. Young people asked the following questions to the authorities. “You see the war in Kurdistan every day and you keep your silence against it every day. Chemical weapons are used incessantly every day. A raid or a different policy is immediately implemented against individuals and institutions that oppose these attacks. The fact that Şebnem Fincancı was immediately arrested after her statement is proof of this.” Responding to this speech, the authorities stated that they knew what was going on, but did not give any answer to the question “Why are you not doing something”
MEETING AT 18.00
The protest of the youth ended with a press release in front of the building. In the press release, it was informed that a meeting will be held with young people and commission officials at 18:00 this evening.
