‘LIKE ZİLAN, LIKE ARIN MIRKAN’
After a minute of silence for those who lost their lives in the Kurdistan freedom struggle, Saadet Kuran spoke on behalf of the Families of Lost and Martyrs Association-KOMAW. Stating that the Kurdish people owed all their gains to the martyrs, Saadet Kuran noted that they will always embrace the resistance of the self-deprecating guerrilla.
Speaking on behalf of YJK-S, Sozdar Sidar stated that Sara and Rûken carry the spirit of the period. Stating that the Mersin action was not just a response to the enemy, Sidar said, “The friends resisted selflessly to break the current silence and remind the line. Just as Zilan was the answer to a period and Arîn was the answer, so did Sara and Rûken.”
‘EVERYTHING THANKS TO THE GUERILLA’S WORK’
Afterwards, Sara Tolhildan’s brother Mehdi Ürper, who spoke on behalf of the families, stated that the PKK and the Kurdish Freedom Struggle continued thanks to the martyrs.
Expressing that the Kurds owe a lot to the martyrs, Ürper said: “The Turkish state is attacking with all kinds of techniques, taking NATO behind it. But the PKK is resisting. It continues to exist. It is these self-sacrificing guerrillas who hinder the enemy. We owe all our achievements not only in the military field but also in the political field to the guerrilla. If millions of votes are received, if deputies are sent to the parliament, if the world recognizes us now, it is thanks to the efforts of the guerrilla.”
‘FIGHTING IS A FAMILY TRADITION’
Pointing out that raising arms and fighting is a family tradition, Ürper emphasized that this tradition will continue. Ürper stated that her sister Sara had social sensitivity at a young age and that Sara was very disciplined and self-sacrificing.
After Ürper’s speech, a cine-vision commemorating Sara Tolhildan and Rûken Zelal was shown. During the screening, the audience often chanted slogans such as “Şehîd Namirin” and “Bijî berxwedana gerila”.
