NEWS CENTER – The Committee for the Prevention of Torture – CPT – has said nothing more than “we have met with those responsible in İmralı”. But why did they visit İmralı? What did you do to solve the problems there? What was discussed with Chairman Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners? What will happen next, how will the current isolation and lack of communication be overcome? All these and similar questions remained unanswered. It was announced that the necessary information will be provided after one year if requested by the Turkish administration. Finally, it was announced that the HDP co-chairs have applied to the Turkish Ministry of Justice to “go to İmralı”.
Of course, that’s not all. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe finally made the expected statement in September. The Turkish administration announced that Rêber Apo and the other Kurdish revolutionary prisoners were “exempted from the right to hope”! So there is nothing new. What is being done is restating the obvious. Therefore, the main purpose of their work is to understand them “like a disciplinary penitentiary.” It is also said that the EU Council of Ministers has suggested this decision to the Turkish government. This is certainly not surprising either.
All of this can be described as the “last straw”. Because it is difficult to find such games elsewhere. The last straw for the Kurds, however, was the images of guerrilla fighters dying at the hands of chemical weapons. The guerrilla headquarters announced that 17 guerrillas were killed by chemical weapons in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna in the last two months. The information on their identity and the pictures of these 17 guerrillas were released to the press by the press center of the HPG.
These images, which offend people’s true conscience, have caused outrage in all democratic circles, especially among the Kurds. It is definitely not possible otherwise. The pictures are really very memorable. In fact, the Kurds and their friends have risen up in the four parts of Kurdistan and in Europe. Large rallies and demonstrations are taking place everywhere, and the fascist-genocidal AKP-MHP dictatorship is being condemned. On this basis, it focuses on the meaning and importance of the guerrilla resistance in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna, which has lasted for the past six months, while again focusing on and trying to understand even better the historical Imrali resistance of 24 years. On this basis, the Kurds and their friends find themselves in a new soul-searching. They wonder to what extent they are involved in the reality of Rêber Apo and the guerrillas.
The images of guerrillas being exposed to chemical weapons have shocked not only the Kurds and their friends, but also all Turkish rulers. The fascist mob, Tayyip Erdoğan in particular, tried to deny the images in question to the press, panicking at being caught red-handed. But even the panic they feel is enough to show they are guilty. The fear of being held accountable for their actions seems to have driven them all insane.
The main group whose stance might arouse curiosity is undoubtedly the NATO forces, particularly the US, and the entire state-run system. Because almost all of them are partners of the Turkish state in the use of chemical weapons. Some of them are complicit in selling arms, some in donating arms on behalf of the Alliance, and still others in remaining silent about this crime against humanity. Considering that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was executed by this system “for possession of chemical weapons” one can better understand the subject matter of the crime committed by the fascist AKP-MHP government. Well aware of this situation, all state forces that are accomplices of AKP-MHP fascism have preferred to remain silent and watch. At least up to the time of writing these lines, no statement worth mentioning has been made by either side. Of course, one cannot know in advance how the future will develop.
It is already known that the Turkish state, supported by NATO, has used chemical weapons against Kurdistan guerrillas since the 1990s. In 2021, guerrilla commander Murat Karayılan revealed to the press that five types of chemical weapons were used against the guerrillas. Since April 17, the type of chemical weapons used against the guerrillas in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna, as well as the intensity of their use, have continued to increase. This situation has already been explained to the press at the HPG press center several times.
However, the war crimes committed by the Turkish state and AKP-MHP fascism in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna are not limited to the use of chemical weapons. Because in addition to chemical weapons, it also uses a wide range of tactical nuclear bombs, thermobaric bombs and phosphorus bombs. Tactical nuclear bombs are much more destructive than chemical weapons. These bombs certainly do not act like strategic ballistic nuclear missiles over a very large area; rather, they are used against a limited area, building, or similar location. However, in the limited area where it is deployed, it has an effect similar to that of a strategic nuclear bomb. For example, it depletes the oxygen in the area where it is dropped, wiping out all life in an instant. thermobaric bombs, a kind of tactical nuclear bomb, are much more destructive in this regard. By destroying the oxygen in the narrow area in which it is deployed and creating a very large pressure effect and combustion, it melts almost everything and destroys it without a trace.
The AKP-MHP fascism has used these weapons very frequently against the guerrillas of Kurdistan in recent years. These are the bombs that are even more banned than chemical weapons. In addition, the Turkish state does not have the ability to produce such weapons. In other words, these weapons are being supplied to Turkey by NATO, by countries such as the US, UK, Germany and France. The sale of such weapons is also prohibited. That is why AKP-MHP fascism uses the forbidden weapon of these states, NATO, against the guerrillas of Kurdistan. Since the weapons belong to these states, these states undoubtedly know that the Turkish Republic is using these weapons against the Kurds. That is, the silence of the states that are in the position of accomplices, given the images of chemical weapons is mainly due to this. In other words, these states are more afraid of the revelation that the Turkish Republic is using tactical nuclear weapons. Because in such a case, their complicity becomes even clearer.
It is quite clear that the entire state-organized system unanimously supports the Turkish state and is complicit in its crimes of using banned weapons against the guerrillas of Kurdistan. On this basis, they try to crush the Kurdistan guerrillas, crush the Kurdistan Freedom Movement and complete the Kurdish genocide. Because the mentality and the policy of genocide, which negates and wants to destroy the Kurds, belongs to the entire state-controlled system.
Therefore, Kurdistan guerrillas and Kurdistan freedom movement are in very serious danger. Chairman Abdullah Öcalan was also put into Imrali’s system of torture and genocide for 24 years on this basis and is therefore so severely isolated. Therefore, more than ever, this reality needs to be properly understood. Now more than ever, it is time to properly understand and connect more strongly to Rêber Apo and the guerrilla resistance.
Let’s think for a moment: If it weren’t for the resistance in Imrali and the guerrilla resistance in the mountains, would there be anything in the name of the Kurds at all? Would there be Kurdish politics in Hewlêr, Qamishlo, Amed and Mahabad? If there is no freedom struggle in Kurdistan, what is left in the name of democracy in Turkey and the Middle East? If there is no struggle for a free Kurdistan and a democratic Middle East, if women’s leadership in this struggle had not developed, would there be anything left in the name of free humanity in the world? It is clear that this would not have happened and that everything depends on the resistance of the Imrali and the guerrillas. This situation explains why all state-controlled forces are so hostile to Rêber Apo and the guerrillas.
