24 years ago, a conspiracy against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan was organized by international forces and local collaborators. What was the purpose of this conspiracy that took place 24 years ago?
Before answering your question, I would like to point out the following. As it is known, October is the month in which many dear friends were martyred. Dr. Sîrwan was murdered by the Barzanis on October 4, 1996, along with 3 of his friends. Dr. Sîrwan friend had joined the movement from Europe. He was the first friend to join the Apoist movement from Bashur. Just as Haki Karer pioneered in Bakur, heval Dr. Sirwan also pioneered in Bashur.
- On October 5, 1927, Xoybûn was founded in Lebanon. After its establishment, some uprisings and rebellions developed. Therefore, it has an important place in the history of the Kurdish movement.
- Again, on October 5, in Rojava, female friend Arîn Mîrkan was martyred by performing a self-sacrificing action. It dealt a great blow to the ISIS gangs.
- On October 6, 1996, Koçgirî state commander Heval Rûhat and 17 friends were martyred by the Turkish state. Rûhat was a working friend who struggled in many fields.
- On October 8, Gurbetelli Ersöz was martyred with 25 friends in Garê. Gurbetelli Ersöz was an academic and worked for a newspaper. When she saw that she could no longer do her duties in the city, she went to the mountain and joined the guerrilla. She also duly fulfilled many duties in the guerrilla.
- On October 9, 1956, Şêx Mehmûd Barzencî died in Baghdad, where he was exiled. On this occasion, I commemorate him with respect. He is also a great asset of the Kurdish people.
- On October 10, 2015, the Turkish state carried out a massacre at the Ankara Train Station by the hand of ISIS. In that massacre, 107 of our people who were fighting for democracy and freedom were killed. On this occasion, I commemorate them as well. My best regards.
- On October 10, 2011, Çiçek Botan, Rûstem Cudî and Alişêr Koçgirî and 4 friends were martyred in an air attack against Xakurkê. It is not clear yet whether the Turkish state or other forces carried out that bombardment, but most likely those who helped the Turkish state did it.
- On October 11, 1992, heval Hüseyin Çelebi was martyred in the KDP war in Heftanin. As it is known, the Turkish state and the KDP were fighting together against our movement at that time. In that war, the KDP martyred our friend. Heval Hussein had also joined the movement from Europe. He carried out many studies at the university in Europe. He also built the youth institution.
- On October 14, 1992, while 23 young people from Malatya Doğanşehir wanted to join the guerrillas, they were still unarmed and were massacred by the Turkish state.
- On October 15, 2019, the Turkish state martyred heval Demhat and heval Cemil in an airstrike in Sulaymaniyah.
- On October 19, 1960, by applying the resettlement law, 55 Kurds in Sivas were exiled to Turkish metropolises with great pressure.
- On October 22, the great poet Cigerxwîn died in Sweden. As it is known, Cigerxwîn has a very important place in Kurdish literature. He rendered many services to the Kurdish people. That’s why the Kurdish people always protect and keep Cigerxwîn alive.
- On October 26, 1996, Leyla Kaplan took action against the genocidal Turkish state in Adana. He was martyred by dealing a great blow to the Turkish policemen.
- Again on October 26, 2013, Bahoz was executed in Urmia, and Rıza Mamedi was executed in Salmas.
- On October 27, 1997, Meryem Çolak was martyred by the Turkish state in Heftanin. Our friend Meryem had also joined the guerrilla from Europe. In the person of these martyrs, I commemorate all the martyrs of democracy and freedom with respect and reverence.
As it is known, the ‘You cannot darken our sun’ action had developed under the leadership of Halit Oral. With this action, his aim was to form a circle around Rêber Apo and to frustrate the plot. This action had a huge impact. Many people also participated in this action. On this occasion, I respectfully commemorate our martyrs who stood against the conspiracy and defended the Leadership in the person of heval Halit Oral. All of these martyrs are in the hearts of the Kurdish people. If we have reached this stage today, it is thanks to our heroic martyrs. Because they created value for us, they showed us how to fight. The international conspiracy was developed against our movement and our people in the person of Rêber Apo, but it was not limited to this.
NOW THEY SHOULD SEE THEIR MISTAKES AND NOT RESIST IN THE CONSTRUCTION
This conspiracy was developed mainly against all peoples and humanity. It’s a big conspiracy. I condemn the perpetrators of this conspiracy. Everyone who develops, serves, takes part, and pioneers the conspiracy should put their hats down and think. So what did they do, what did they serve; they should see this. They should no longer insist on the conspiracy and see their mistake. In fact, they have committed a great crime rather than a mistake. They should abandon this policy they are pursuing against the PKK and the Kurdish people. Rêber Apo wanted to solve the Kurdish problem. Solving the Kurdish problem is solving the problems of the peoples of the Middle East. Rêber Apo devoted his whole life to this. That’s why he struggled. He always wanted to solve this problem through dialogue.
Europe created the Kurdish problem. That’s why they need to solve this problem with Europe. Europe created the Kurdish problem and handed it over to the Turkish state. They said to carry out this policy, and the Turkish state is still carrying out this policy. This is the truth. The aim of Rêber Apo was to solve the Kurdish problem. He wanted to create a change in mentality and conscience. He wanted to develop a democratic and free revolution. To fulfill this purpose, he wanted to solve the problem with whoever created it. So with Europe. Every time Rêber Apo wants to solve the problem with Europe, Europe’s answer is; ‘you can’t fix this problem, we don’t solve this problem, this situation does not serve us. Our interests are not in favor of solving the Kurdish problem.’ In other words, they want a permanent war between Kurds and Turks. Because they developed the Middle East systems on this basis.
When Rêber Apo went to Europe, when he presented 8 items to solve the problem, they would own it. Rêber Apo laid down his life for this. “I want to solve this problem,” he said, but the answer of international forces was conspiracy. Because if the Kurdish problem was resolved, a democratic system would develop in the Middle East, and this would create a change in the world. That’s why those who created the Kurdish problem continued to aggravate it. However, Rêber Apo fulfilled all the conditions for the solution of the problem. But they responded with conspiracy. They built the Imrali system. America, Britain and Israel led the conspiracy, but it was Europe that developed the conspiracy. When they captured Rêber Apo and took him to Imrali, Rêber Apo said, “I saw the CPT in front of me.” CPT clearly said that we created this system, we will follow it. That’s why Imrali
THOSE WHO WANTED TO DEVELOP THE WAR ESTABLISHED THE IMRALI SYSTEM
Rêber Apo said that Turkey is the guard. Just as the Turkish state presents a duty to the Barzanis and the Barzanis fulfill it, the conspiratorial forces presented a duty to the Turkish state and the Turkish state is fulfilling its duty. The AKP-MHP is deceiving the people of Turkey with the lies “We are national, we are against America, against Europe”. The public should understand this well. AKP-MHP came to power with the support of these forces. Because those who set up the conspiracy and the Imrali system wanted the Kurdish war to develop. They aimed to do this with the AKP-MHP government. That’s why they brought AKP-MHP to power. This is the truth.
Such a great conspiracy in history has never been made against anyone, any people, or any movement. Rêber Apo is not an ordinary leader, he is not like other leaders. The bigger a leader, a movement, the bigger the conspiracy against him. This is why international forces are involved in the conspiracy. Because they saw that Rêber Apo wanted to solve the Kurdish problem. Solving the Kurdish problem meant solving the problems of the peoples fighting for freedom and democracy in the Middle East. The forces involved in the conspiracy saw that this was a great danger to them. That’s why they wanted the Kurdish problem to remain unsolved and the brotherhood of peoples not to develop in the Middle East. They wanted the contradictions they created in Kurdistan, Turkey and the Middle East to continue.
That was the purpose of the conspiracy. That’s why they wanted to neutralize the movement developed by Rêber Apo for humanity, for human values. The goal of the conspiracy was the complete destruction of Rêber Apo. They wanted to destroy Rêber Apo first physically and then politically. That’s why the isolation is getting worse day by day. That’s why the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), America, Europe, none of them speak up. Their aim is to destroy Rêber Apo. They think that when they destroy Rêber Apo, they will also destroy the movement. Because Rêber Apo and the PKK are preventing the genocide against the Kurdish people. Rêber Apo stood strong against the conspiracy and thwarted the conspiracy. He gave a great weapon in his hands for humanity to thwart the conspiracy. It created a paradigm. Opposing conspiracy, slavery, power, Those who fight for freedom and democracy will achieve their goals with whatever philosophy and ideology they resist, he gave the clear answer to everyone’s questions. Those who support Rêber Apo today have seen that the conspiracy is not developed only against Rêber Apo and the Kurds, but against humanity. That’s why they support Rêber Apo and the PKK.
The fight against the conspiracy is getting bigger every day. That’s why everyone should see this now. The conspiratorial forces should not insist on their policies, they should make amends. They cannot conduct politics without the Kurdish people and the PKK. If they want to engage in politics, if they want to be friends with the Kurdish people, they should give up politics against the PKK and Rêber Apo. The PKK, the Kurdish people and their Kurdish friends also have duties to fulfill. Why did the conspiracy develop, what benefit did the conspiratorial forces benefit, we should see our shortcomings and mistakes and correct them. Our people should know very well that if the Kurdish problem is not resolved, the conspiracy will continue. If we want to end the conspiracy, our movement developed the “Dem dema azadiyê” move. We need to strengthen that move even more. In this way, we can ensure the physical freedom of Rêber Apo.
FIGHT IS THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BRING RÊBER APO FROM DUNGEON
CPT went to İmralı at the end of September. He announced that they would submit a report to Turkey after 6 months and that they would give 6 months to Turkey. How do you evaluate this development?
Our people should understand why the CPT went to Imrali. Because the CPT had said that the Turkish state should announce its plan by the end of September. September is over, the Turkish state has not presented any plans. Against this, actions to embrace Rêber Apo in the international arena increased even more. They told Europe that they had to fulfill their laws. They demanded that Rêber Apo come out of the dungeon and see Rêber Apo. Such great pressure was created. Despite the deadline given to them, Turkey did not announce its plan and did not fulfill European laws. Because of this, the CPT had to go. If they had not gone, the crimes they committed against Rêber Apo, the Kurdish people and humanity would have been revealed more clearly. They went to get rid of this burden. Not only Turkey but also Europe does not protect its laws.
Not only Turkey, but also Europe is guilty of the politics carried out against Rêber Apo. Because they created the Imrali system. Our people and our friends should know well that their laws are not for the Kurds. Their laws are to eliminate everything in the name of Kurds and Kurdistan. They see this as right and justified. The only thing that will get Rêber Apo out of that dungeon is the struggle. Whatever the Kurds have won so far, they have won through struggle. Whatever they will win from now on, they will win by struggle. All other roads are closed to Kurds. The Kurds should not deceive themselves.
Kurds should not say, “There is law, there is democracy, there is human rights, these apply to us as well”. They are enforcing these laws for themselves, not for the Kurds. The Kurds no longer have to act according to their law. Do not expect anything from them. If there was law and justice, could they approach Rêber Apo like this? The CPT says that it will announce a report in 6 months and will give Turkey 6 months after the report. So it will take 1 year. They are kidding. The Kurdish people should not accept this. The CPT should immediately publicize the Imrali results. Our people, the lawyers who applied, and everyone who is an artist or writer should demand this. Here the CPT should be pressed.
THOSE WHO DON’T WANT WAR, ASK IT FROM THE TURKISH STATE BEFORE
Sara Tolhildan and Rûken Zelal carried out a very effective action in Mersin against the ongoing attacks against the Kurdish people and the PKK. This action brought with it different discussions. How do you evaluate the impact of this action and the discussions that followed?
The action performed by Sara and Rûken friend is a very big and successful action. Maybe some of them want to make this action simple and they are working for it. Maybe some also want to make this action meaningless, but whatever they do is useless. No one can hide this action, make it meaningless or distort it. The Turkish state is doing everything against our movement and our people, there is nothing it has not done. These things happen in front of the eyes, everyone can see it. What are they doing to our people in Bakur, what are they doing in the dungeons, what are they doing in Rojava and Bakur, they are using all kinds of weapons against the guerrilla, they are using reconnaissance planes, helicopters, tanks, everything incessantly. However, they use banned weapons, chemical, tactical nuclear, thermobaric bombs, all kinds of gases.
Funerals come out of the dungeons, they execute the prisoners. They are deceiving people with claims such as “he was sick, he died, he fell dead”. They put the Kurdish people in a closed dungeon. They are eliminating everything in the name of Kurds and Kurdistan. On this basis, they attack not only people, but also nature and animals. In other words, he wants to eliminate everything in Kurdistan. They did not leave any trees in Botan. It’s not about cutting trees and making money. They are waging a war of extermination. Botan, the reason why they cut down trees in Dersim is the policy of genocide. It eliminates the means of life for the Kurdish people. No one in the world has carried out such a policy against the peoples. They make massacres every day in Rojava. It has occupied many places, it is changing its demographics, there is no day when they do not slaughter people.
They are assassinating every day in Bashur. In Shengal, Maxmur, Sulaymaniyah, Medya Defense Zones. In other words, they are carrying out a policy of genocide against the Kurdish people. If you pursue this policy against the Kurdish people, the Kurdish people also have the right to defend themselves. It has also been accepted by international organizations. Will the Kurdish people accept the annihilation? This is not possible, it is immoral, inhumane. The Kurdish people will of course defend themselves against all these attacks, this is their right. If Sara and Rûken protested in Mersin, they did it for this reason. So why don’t those who criticize this action, those who want to simplify, neutralize and distort it, do not oppose the Turkish state’s policy against the Kurdish people, the guerrilla, and chemical weapons? Why do you tell the Turkish state, the AKP-MHP government, “The politics you are carrying out is a crime, you are committing a crime, Do they not say, “You want to destroy a people”? There is a saying among the people; you reap what you sow.
What are they doing in Kurdistan? War, massacre, torture, beating, immigration, destruction. They are carrying out this policy against the entire Kurdish society. They carry out this policy against women, men, young people, the elderly, children, and the nature of Kurdistan. Of course, doing this will come at a cost. If you make the Kurds pay the price, won’t the Kurds make you pay the price? Of course, the Kurds will make you pay the price. This is the right of the Kurds. Those who say that there should be no war, that violence should disappear, should first ask the Turkish state. The Turkish state wants to eliminate the Kurds, the Kurds do not want to eliminate the Turkish state, the Turks. There are those who say that they are dividing Turkey, they are betraying it. They are the ones who divided and betrayed Turkey. When the Turkish Republic was newly established, Mustafa Kemal had speeches, articles, Kurds in the Turkish parliament, they have conversations. Even Mustafa Kemal accepts autonomy. They are the ones who betrayed the Kurds later, not the Kurds.
Kurds want their rights. They are the ones who have shattered Turkey and Turkish society. The Kurds are waging a just and legitimate struggle. If Sara and Rûken made such a big action in Mersin, everyone should think about it and draw conclusions for themselves and approach the issue in the right way. Why was this action taken, what is the reason? What is the Turkish state doing to the Kurds, what is it doing to the guerrilla, these two Kurdish women organized such an action. They did nothing for themselves; They stood against the oppression of the Turkish state. This is what they do. This is the line of self-defense. No one can speak to this line. Everyone needs to approach and speak correctly. Except for the consequences of the action for the Kurdish people and the peoples of Turkey, all the speeches made are empty speeches. It is disbelief and unscrupulousness to oppose this line, this action.
KURDISH AND IRANIAN WOMEN FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY
After the murder of a Kurdish woman named Jîna Eminî in Iran, a women-led revolt started. This rebellion has been going on for days. According to some sources, more than 200 people were killed. As the KCK Executive Council Co-presidency, you also made a statement criticizing and warning the Iranian state. What would you like to say about the rebels and the Iranian state?
A Kurdish woman was tortured to death. Then there was an uprising. Who killed that Kurdish woman? Iranian state. The people did not accept this. There is already too much pressure, there is a problem. When a Kurdish woman was martyred by such torture and beating, the people revolted. At first, women rebelled, but day by day, in many states, the people also moved with them. The revolt just got bigger. Their demands are just and democratic. The Iranian state should listen to women and society. He should have a dialogue with them. They should discuss their problems and demands and produce solutions. This is what is required of Iran. What is Iran doing? Instead of listening to legitimate and democratic demands, approaching seriously, and solving problems, it goes to the people with violence. So he strongly wants to eliminate these demands. When you do this, more deaths occur and the problems get worse. The Iranian state should see that the method it uses exacerbates the problems instead of solving them. It even poses a threat to them.
They need to see this. It turned out that this way the problems were not solved. Problems need to be resolved through dialogue. Instead of taking this as a basis, they say “America, Israel is making these actions to destroy Iran”. How realistic is this? Maybe some people believe it, but society doesn’t. America and Israel did not kill Jîna, it was an institution of the Iranian state that killed him. Under their responsibility, that Kurdish woman was murdered. If they say that foreign powers have a hand in these developing rebellions, this is not true. You yourself prepared the ground for this, the uprising developed on this ground. Don’t foreign powers have plans on Iran? Of course there is, they may want to take advantage of this ground, but you offer this ground; they are also working on this ground.
If you don’t want foreign countries to interfere in their internal affairs and cause problems, then you should solve your internal problems. Then outside forces cannot create a mess. So the problem is inside, not outside. That’s why it has to be resolved inside. Therefore, those speeches do not have much effect on the public. Kurdish women Iranian women are fighting for democracy and freedom. It is these women who overthrew the Shah. So those who stood against the Shah together with the women are now against the women. They should see this reality too. There was a great revolution, it was a democratic revolution. If it continued that way, Iran would be a democratic country where everyone expresses themselves. It would also be an example for the Middle East. Iranian history also serves this purpose. But they did not take history and revolution as a basis, they became the opposite power. So they faced the women they had overthrown the Shah together. They are responsible for this, not outside powers. Their policies caused this. Because of this, many martyrdoms took place. On this occasion, I commemorate the martyrs with respect.
Women claim their freedom. This is to protect the freedom of the people. Rêber Apo also stated that the 21st century will be the century of the women’s revolution. It can be seen from what happened. With the revolt of women in Iran, women around the world have also taken action. Everyone sees the role of women. The Iranian state blames the Kurds for this rebellion. That’s why it attacks Kurds, it attacks Kurdish institutions. There were also martyrdoms. On this occasion, I commemorate the martyrs with respect. My condolences to the Kurdish people, Kurdish parties and institutions. In other words, the Turkish state, the Iranian state should not make these mistakes. They should not use violence against the Kurdish people, they should solve the Kurdish problem through dialogue. Violent practices do not solve the Kurdish problem, they deepen it. The deeper the Kurdish problem in Iran, the deeper the problems in Iran.
NAGIHAN’S FRIEND CONSCIOUSLY TARGET
Murders and assassinations are taking place not only in a part of Kurdistan, but also in all parts. Finally, our journalist friend, Jineology Research Center Member Academician Nagihan Akarsel, was martyred in a vile attack in Sulaymaniyah. Similar assassinations took place in Sulaymaniyah before, and these were announced as ‘unactivated’. What would you say about these assassinations and Akersel’s murder?
Friend Nagihan was the owner of a great effort for both women and the Kurdish people, and provided great services. She devoted her entire life to the women’s movement and the service of the people of Kurdistan. She carried out these works not only for Bakur (Northern Kurdistan), but also for all Kurdish women and even women of the world. These works were a great service to the Kurdish people and humanity. On this occasion, I commemorate this friend with respect, we will never let his efforts weaken, we will realize his dreams and goals. This is our duty, we will do it under all conditions and conditions.
Friend Nagihan deliberately targeted them. Because he was carrying out important works for the Kurdish people, women and humanity. She was a member of the Jineology Research Center and editor of the journal Jineology. The Turkish state is a misogynist, an enemy of the Kurds, an enemy of humanity, an enemy of human values. Who is the AKP-MHP government targeting? It targets those who have done the most for women, the Kurdish people and humanity. It doesn’t just target everyone, it targets those whose service is great. This reveals the reality of this regime.
The jineology that Nagihan friend served and worked for was the work of Rêber Apo. Rêber Apo opened this area to the service of Kurdish women and humanity. Friend Nagihan took care of this area, that is, he took care of Rêbêr Apo, he took care of Rêber Apo’s philosophy and paradigm. She wanted to realize this philosophy and paradigm in practice. She wanted to spread this to the world in order to develop a new mentality, to reveal a new conscience. Nagihan was to target the friend, to target the woman. For this, both Kurdish women and those who take the struggle for freedom and democracy as a basis should protect their friend Nagihan. How will your dreams and goals come true? How will his vengeance be greater? By deepening in Jineology, by deepening the line developed by Rêber Apo for women, his revenge is taken bigger. Nagihan friend is also kept alive in this way.
THEY WANT TO EXTINGUISH SORAN’S ENLIGHTENMENT
So why are these murders taking place in Sulaymaniyah and the Soran region? The people of Soran, in particular, should have a good understanding of what was intended by these murders. Known as the region of Aydın, artists, writers and academics, Soran region should understand this situation and what was targeted with these murders. By creating a climate of fear, they want to silence everyone and take over and enslave them. Because our people in the Soran region have a special feature, which is this: They do not accept oppression, power or slavery, and they have strong feelings of freedom. For this reason, he always takes sides with the freedom movements. The Turkish state and its collaborators, the KDP, and the Turkmen who act with them know this.
Just as Rêber Apo and the PKK are an engine that carries the Kurdish people forward, so in Bashur (South Kurdistan) the Soran region and its intellectuals are an engine for Bashur. They are the ones who provide enlightenment for the Bashur. The Turkish state and the Barzanis do not want this enlightenment in Soran to spread to Behdinan. Therefore, they are trying to extinguish this enlightenment. This is the reason for these attacks in Sulaymaniyah and Soran region. Our people, intellectuals and politicians should know this situation well. What is required of them is to take an upright stance against the plotted assassinations. They should not only make some statements, but also oppose the Turkish state, Barzanis and Turkmens, and take an upright stance. They should say to them, “We will not allow you to do these evils in our territory.” They should both protect the martyrs and protect themselves with such an attitude. If they do not harbor the traitors among themselves, oppose them and expel them from their regions, even if they go against them and take revenge, the Turkish state, Barzanis and Turkmens cannot persecute the people in this region, they cannot take this region by scaring the people.
Soran people, intellectuals, artists, especially women, should protect their own history. Throughout history, Soran has stood against oppression and stood by freedom. If the enemy is attacking the PKK today, it is because the PKK represents the feelings of the Kurdish people. They attack the PKK because it prevents the Turkish state and Barzanis from achieving their goals. That’s why. What is required of them is to see this reality and act accordingly. If they act like this, neither the Turks, nor Parastin (KDP intelligence) nor the Turkmen can do such evil. They know that Nagihan friend Soran has made great efforts for the people. How will they pay their debts to the PKK? If they take care of Nagihan friend and stand against the Turkish state, they can pay their debts. This is what is required of them.
GUERILLA RESISTS 24 HOURS CONTINUOUS BY SOME TIMES BY STAYING Hungry
The reason for such attacks against civilians is their failure in the face of guerrilla resistance. What is the latest situation in the war?
The genocidal Turkish state does not distinguish between guerrilla and civilian. For them, a Kurd is a Kurd. There is a well-known saying; “There is no difference between black and white Kurds”. Yet another famous saying is: The best Kurd is a dead Kurd. This is their approach to the Kurds. For them, there is no difference between such a guerrilla and other Kurds. The Turkish state says: “We have a problem with the PKK, not the Kurds”.
