NEWS CENTER – A 19-year-old girl was assaulted in a bar in Angra dos Reis, on Rio’s Green Coast, after, in a conversation with friends, criticism of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was made. According to the report of witnesses, another customer of the establishment, upon hearing the comments, came out in defense of the candidate for reelection and started an argument, which eventually culminated in his expulsion from the place by the owner. After that, however, he returned with a piece of wood and attacked the group, hitting Estefane de Oliveira Laudano with a blow to the head.
“We were talking and I saw a friend’s status on a social network, which said: “My flag is green and yellow. Underneath, smaller, he added “but my vote is 13” – which is the number of Lula, the left candidate to the election that is to happen on the 2nd of next month – “but I didn’t notice at the time, so I jokingly told my sister: “Hey, people, is he voting for Bolsonaro? I don’t have any Bolsonarist friends” – says Esther de Oliveira Laudano, 24 years old, the victim’s sister. I answered that he had no problem, that he was in the right, but that no one had talked to him.
Esther says that the aggressor insisted in his insults, shouting, until the owner of the bar asked him to leave. According to the young woman, the man seemed altered, as if he was drunk.
“He called me a ‘man-maria’ and said that I was people like those who vote for Lula. Then he left, but soon came back with this piece of wood. He started yelling that, ‘if I was a man, then I would be beaten like a man. I stopped in front of him and said: Then hit.”
Estefane then got into the middle of the argument, trying to push the aggressor away. The man, however, fought back, and she ended up being hit by the edge of the piece of wood, which cut her head.
“My first reaction was to throw punches at him, but when I looked back I saw my sister on the floor, all covered with blood, asking for help. She couldn’t move, she was shaking and screaming. It was a horrible image,” reports Esther.
All the confusion happened in a bar in the center of Angra dos Reis, around 4 pm. Injured, Estefane was taken on a friend’s lap to the Santa Casa of Angra do Reis, located a few meters from the place of the incident. She was then transferred to the Hospital Municipal da Japuíba, in the same city, where she received seven stitches in the cut region and remains hospitalized, with a stable condition.
After making sure that her sister was okay, Esther managed to locate two military police officers, who started to patrol the area in search for the aggressor. He was found in a nearby street, still with Estefane’s blood on his face and hands, after being restrained by residents.
The witnesses and the man were taken to the 166th police station (Angra dos Reis), where he was booked for bodily injury. According to the delegate Vilson de Almeida Silva, head of the unit, the Bolsonarist will respond in freedom because it is a crime of lesser potential. Esther and two other friends who witnessed the scene have already made statements, while the aggressor, whose identity was not disclosed, preferred not to give statements at this first moment and remained silent.
