ISTANBUL – Police attacked the Peace Mothers who made a statement and a sit-in in front of the Dolmabahçe Palace on the occasion of September 1, World Peace Day. Mothers, who came to the spot where Beşiktaş stadium is located, to voice their demands for peace, demanded that the isolation in prisons be ended and the resolution table re-established.

‘THIS PROBLEM CANNOT BE SOLVED WITH WAR!’

Akime Keskin, one of the Peace Mothers, who carried out a sit-in with white cheesecloth symbolizing peace, said in her speech in Kurdish, “We want peace, we are mothers, and we want all mothers to support us. Despite the massacre and violence for 100 years, we always want peace. We are mothers and our hearts hurt for everyone. We never wanted war. Blood is flowing on both sides. This problem cannot be solved by war, everyone should know this well,” she said.

‘Isolation RISE, SOLUTION TABLE ESTABLISHED’

Bedia Gökgöz from Peace Mothers stressed that as Kurdish mothers, they want peace in the world, Gökgöz said, “We want the massacres to end. It is world day of peace and we want peace to come to the world and country. Shout out to moms. End these massacres, lift the isolation in prisons. Let’s not let the funerals come out of prisons, our tears have dried now. Kurdish mothers receive their children’s bodies in boxes every day. There are no bodies left, we give our bones and we don’t accept this anymore.”

Keskin, who wanted the resolution table to be re-established, said, “The peace table was set up right here; Why did they overturn this table? Let them set up this table again, gather around it again. And they should not forget that peace does not harm anyone,” she said.

‘Aren’t you ashamed to give our bones in a bag?’

Behiye Duman, on the other hand, reacted to the fact that Hakan Arslan’s funeral was given to her father in a bag, saying, “They are treating us with all kinds of humiliating, ill-treatment, inhuman and fascistic behavior that they bring to us things that do not exist in the world, to the Kurds. They kill our children, they do not give them to their families, they also put the bones in the cargo or bag and send them to such families. Isn’t it shameful? Aren’t you ashamed? I condemn this mentality that does this.”

After the speeches, the police attacked the mothers who wanted to disperse. While the Peace Mothers were dragged on the ground and detained, members of the press were arbitrarily prevented from shooting.

The names of the detained Peace Mothers are: Bedia Gökyüz, Zeliha Gökyüz, Şükran Tugay.
