In these last days, the 5-month war balance sheet has been announced by HPG. This statement once again revealed how extensive the war was. How do you evaluate this 5 month war process ?
First of all, the martyrdom of our esteemed martyr comrades has been declared recently. At the same time, the names of our newly martyred comrades were announced. The last 5 months were very important for us. Another week has passed after 5 months. In other words, there has been a continuous and wide-ranging war in Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn for 5 months and a week. This is a new situation in the history of Kurdistan and our history of struggle. In other words, for the first time in more than 5 months, the Turkish occupation is being opposed at the same position, the resistance is developing and the Turkish state has been stopped. This is not an ordinary situation. As I said, it is a new situation in the history of our people, in our history of struggle. Despite the internal and external support of the Turkish state and using all the modern weapons of the era, not only limited to these, but also custom-made chemical weapons, tactical nuclear, thermobaric, phosphorus, which are effective in different and narrow areas that are prohibited according to the laws of international states are used. Despite this, the Turkish state could not achieve the desired result. So a very comprehensive war is being waged right now. First of all, Girê Amediyê, Girê Hakkarî, Gire FM, Girê Cudî, Şikefta Brîndara, Karker, Werxelê and now the most fierce war continues day and night in Çemço Region, Sîda and this whole range. Everyone should know that this war is something new. In other words, on the one hand, a power that is large, numerous and in the hands of all the technology of the age, on the other hand, a power that is faithful, courageous, expert, has command of the field and has tactical science is fighting against each other. In other words, in this war, we are developing people’s will against the modern technology of the age and banned weapons. Against all these attacks, we are waging this war with the belief and will of the people, the mentality created with the ideas and philosophy of Leader Apo, the determination, the developing courage and the hard work of the people. He also has tactical science and expertise. All of the tactical new methods developed surprised the enemy. Perhaps he did not expect that such a deep, rich strategy and dominance would be carried out together in a coordinated manner on the enemy. An important battle performance is on display. As we have stated, this is done with a sacrificial spirit. A great sacrifice is being made. The courage displayed by Kurdish women, men and friends today, including Arabs, is indeed a great example of glorifying human will. We believe that the new ways and methods we have developed in war will be an example for everyone, especially for the forces that do not have the technical means against large armies and the weapons of the age, within the framework of the Revolutionary People’s War perspective, to defend their free lands and themselves with guerrilla methods. As it is known, there were castles in the past.
The peoples defended themselves with castles against large armies. Now there are no castles on earth. Because there are big guns and they destroy them by hitting them. The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla has now built underground forts and has developed its specialist team style on the ground. He made every tree on earth a position against the enemy. He also did the underground. For example, the Turkish state cannot move freely in the field with its army, as in the past, and cannot go and occupy it. If he wants to go from one hill to another, for example, if he has to travel a distance of one kilometer, he is afraid to go by land and cannot go. Because if he goes by land, he will face many obstacles. Therefore, first of all, by planes to the place he wants to go, It comes and hits the cobra with rockets, and it makes a landing with a Skorsky helicopter under the dust caused by this bombardment. This is the current occupation method of the Turkish state. So it will go into a place like before and move forward, it cannot do that. It comes from the air. The Turkish army is fighting against us from the air and with banned weapons. We are fighting against them with the will, courage and hard work of man. The political consequences for all our people are also important. If the Turkish army had not been stopped in Zap, Avaşîn and Metina for 5 months and a week, who knows how far it would have gone now. He would further develop his rule over the people of the region and the area. It’s stuck here. For this reason, our people and the Kurdish nation have a great place in their resistance. Also, the fact that the Kurdish people are fighting like the Egid of the age for their children, the people of Kurdistan, and their friends, is a joy and a morale booster. Today, at the same time, the Turkish occupation poses a threat to all the people of the region. At the same time, the role of this resistance is great for the future of the people of the region and especially the Arab people.
The Turkish state wants to build roads and consolidate its position in the regions it occupies. What is the purpose of the Turkish state with these practices ?
It is true, the Turkish state is making roads wherever it comes, and it does it at a great expense. This shows that it will be permanent there. He’s building his system. What is the target now? The Turkish state was fighting against us within the borders set for Turkey before. It’s true, he was attacking outside of his borders sometimes, but he would come back again. So his strategy was inward-looking. But after the ISIS war, the Rojava Revolution took place and status was achieved there, and the Kurdish people came to the fore in Rojavayê Kurdistan, Bashure Kurdistan, all of Kurdistan and the Middle East. The Turkish state was afraid of this. Dialogue with Rêber Apo was also carried out in Imrali during those processes. These dialogues turned into the Dolmabahçe Agreement and they developed in front of the eyes of the world. It was signed by HDP deputies and representatives of the Turkish state. Now the Kurds and Turks would come to an agreement. The fear that I mentioned in this process gripped the state. Tayyip Erdoğan rejected this agreement on behalf of the state, and the Turkish state built a new strategy and concept for themselves. They said that the state has a survival problem. The Kurds have become willpower and power, they already have foreign powers behind them, they want to divide Turkey and they said that we must eliminate this danger. Let’s intervene not only within the borders of Turkey, but also in the borders of Bashur and Rojavayê Kurdistan, first of all the warring PKK, and then the gains gained, especially the status, by saying that we have already made a mistake in accepting the status of Bashur -they do not accept the status of Rojava- to remove it. they wanted. In this way, they reached a new concept, the state agreed on it. It basically declared war on us in 2015. What they are doing openly is to reach Xakurkê-Sideka, 30 kilometers from Afrin, within our own borders, so that there is no terror in the state. They are making this official. But in their official and semi-official debates, their target is the National Pact. But they’re getting a little political. They say they want to build a buffer zone for their safety. This is their purpose; To occupy the borders of the National Pact. To control the 3 parts of Kurdistan. Maybe some say that they can’t go this far in Bashure Kurdistan, but look, they came. It both wants to develop the agency and wants to ensure its sovereignty on the borders of the National Pact by seizing control in economic, political, military and many ways.
Even though the Turkish state wants to occupy the Medya Defense Zones, how can the KDP join this occupation ? Frankly, this is interesting; a foreign power is occupying its land and it is participating in this occupation… What can you say about this ?
This question should be asked to them. We don’t really understand either. That shouldn’t have happened. Soil is a sacred thing. If one turns a blind eye to the enemy, a power that wants to strike a blow, and the land is occupied, it is true, of course, not everyone accepts this. When the Turkish state made this concept because it was not a hidden concept, it was made openly. The Turkish state said that we have a survival problem, it is a war of existence and non-existence for us, and that’s how it started. Our effort in those processes was to respond in the form of a common policy as all Kurdish forces. Maybe it’s not like a total war together, but we were saying let’s protect each other, that is, have a common view. As you saw, the meeting was held in 2013 with our efforts, a step was taken for the National Congress, but then it stopped. We wanted to discuss again. Our movement held talks with many powers. Initially, two meetings were held with the KDP. I myself was present at the two meetings held in 2015 and 2016. As we said, Turkey built a new concept. Everyone is in danger. Turkey’s new strategy is dangerous for the Kurdish people. We said that we should be partners together, the problems we have inside are simple, if there are any problems between us in Rojava and Shengal, our joint delegations can sit down and discuss. I myself met twice, we agreed at the meeting, then the delegation should have met, but they said that the delegation did not meet, no appointment was made. At that time, we understood that the KDP was also in talks with Turkey when it was meeting with us. Again, we understood during those processes that they decided to act with Turkey, not with us. Undoubtedly, this created two divisions in Kurdish politics. And this was basically accomplished. We do not want this situation to deepen for how many years. Nevertheless, we are trying to establish a discussion and meeting ground, and we are developing it. Sometimes it did. But they got deeper and deeper and this deepening reached these processes.
I would like to say a few words about these matters. First of all, KDP officials should know that the Turkish state has cooperated with and fought with Kurds both in the Ottoman and Republican periods in its history, and then it liquidated the Kurds who cooperated with them. For example, some tribes resisted in Dêrsîm, while some tribes sided with the state. But when the resistance was broken then he exiled everyone. All without exception. I can give an example of these issues. In Serhat, mainly in Kurdistan, Hüseyin Pasha, the head of the Haydarî Tribe, was famous in his time, had 40 thousand soldiers and fought for 30 years against the Russians on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. In Turkish history, it is written that Kazım Karabekir saved the Serhat Region. This is not true. The person who saves is Blind Huseyin Pasha. That’s how much he served Turkey. This person was a friend of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani. Then, when he decided to join the Ararat Rebellion, he wanted to visit Sheikh Ahmed Barzani, visited him and continued on his way. Then we saw that the Turkish state killed a man named Medeni while he was still praying, and they martyred his nephew and son there. The Turkish state then fought with this family for 30 years. They went after their children. Some of them were martyred, some of them were thrown into prison, some of them went to the side of Iran, they were devastated for years. They even assassinated our comrade Serxwebûn, who was from that family, on the border of Rojhilatê Kurdistan 2 years ago. In other words, the Turkish state also liquidates the Kurds who act with it after their work is done. For this reason, no matter how much the Barzani family is acting with Turkey now, Turkey will one day be against them as well. This is the first.
Secondly, if the PKK does not exist, the Turkish state will not take any Kurds seriously. This is a fact. He would not have such a relationship with Bashur. They had no previous relationship. Their relationship started when we debuted. Then Rêber Apo was taken prisoner, the Turkish state said that we finished the PKK, they gradually reduced their relations and turned it into a red line. Again, when our war raged, the Turkish state established relations with the KDP and Bashur movements, and officially lifted the red line. This is a fact. Now it is occupying Bashur. It is clear that this occupation is taking place with the approval of the KDP. No one can remove them from the places where the Turkish state is now settled. Because the Turkish state has a different style. It never comes out from where it came in. This jeopardizes the future and status of Bashure Kurdistan. Now the KDP side says that they came for the PKK. At least the PKK is fighting, It has been resisting for three or four years, giving so many martyrs. You approve, you help Turkey and you do not react in any way, you see it as legitimate. Do the people of Bashure Kurdistan know that the Turkish state has occupied so much space in Bashur? 30,000 soldiers are now settling in Bashure Kurdistan. We say ourselves that this policy is endangering the future of the people of Bashure Kurdistan. It even poses a threat to Iraq.
Third, in Bakure Kurdistan, it went through great massacres such as Bashure Kurdistan. We have been fighting against this state for 50 years. We have given more than 40 thousand martyrs so far, we have 10 thousand detainees. Our President Rêber Apo is in prison right now. We want to resist the Turkish state and bring them to the point of finding a solution. This is an obvious situation. If the Turkish state really wants to be friends with the Kurds outside its borders, with the Kurds from Bashure Kurdistan, it must first recognize the identity of the Kurds living within its borders. As long as the Turkish state denies the Kurds within its borders, it will not be friendly with the Kurds outside. This is a fact. We want to find a solution, but the contribution of the KDP to the Turkish state also blocks the solution for Bakur. In other words, it prevents us from weakening the state and bringing it to a solution point. It helps the state in every way. It helps the state to destroy the guerrilla. If the state ends the guerrilla, it will make the whole of Kurdistan go through genocide. KDP should not do this, why is it doing this? We didn’t make sense of it. You really need to ask them about this. They should explain to the public why they did this. Let the Kurd kill the Kurd under the name of the Kurd, let the Kurd be killed, under the name of the Kurd an obstacle to the basic Kurdish problem. How that happens. What is the benefit here? We really do not know how they made an agreement with each other. People are wondering. This is wrong. This is the mentality of the MHP. The MHP, the Bahçeli mentality, is the enemy of the Kurds. Hulisi Akar is an enemy of the Kurds, how can a deal be made with them? I couldn’t understand. There is no explanation for this. Let them explain. If they don’t explain today, history is gone, they have to. Today, so many of us are persecuted. We stand against this oppression. What does it mean to provide so much help and contribution in logistics, intelligence, containment, roadblocks and everything else. We did not expect this much. For this reason, they should explain themselves.
Fourth, everyone should know that the PKK cannot be finished. PKK is an ideological movement. This ideology has spread to millions. Millions of Kurdish women, youth, people and Kurdistan’s neighbor, from Arabs to Turks, support this idea. We don’t know why KDP officials are pitting millions against them. Will the hostility against millions be forgotten? Unforgettable. There had been war before. From 1992 until the 2000s, there was a war between us Kurds. Actually, we wanted to close this page. As I have said before, it has been in my own efforts, and our ideas and actions are obvious. Let’s close the book that killed these Kurds, let’s close it completely, we spent a lot of effort for this. This was the decision of our administration, of our Movement. But again, the same thing has been deepened. Suleyman Soylu, They are probably not deceiving themselves with the mind and saying of Hulisi Akar that we will end the PKK on this date every day. The PKK is an idea, the PKK is politics, the PKK is a society, it has millions of people. Why are you hostile to them? What interest do you have in this? What agreement did they make with Turkey? We really don’t understand. Let’s also point out that KDP will not gain from this, it will have a loss.
Fifth, we are in the 21st century today. The world is now developed. He solves all his problems through dialogue. There is no problem, if there is a problem, it should be solved with dialogue. The Turkish state that occupied Kurdistan and similar occupier states say that the Kurds are not a nation, they are tribes, they are fighting, they do not carry out a common policy in line with the interests of the people. Now, with our practices against each other, isn’t it a shame against Kurdish politics? Isn’t it a shame for the United States to act as a mediator for Rojava, ENKS and the Autonomous Administration to come together? Why don’t we have a mind of our own? There are many embarrassing and shameful situations right now. We want to change that. All nations have different opinions. For example, there are Republicans and statists in America. But everyone is protecting America’s interests. They meet somewhere. The interests of your nation are at stake here, but you will contribute to the worst enemy of your enemy. There is no explanation for this. If the Turkish government were a reasonable government, this government essentially builds itself on hostility towards Kurds. So how do you contribute to them? They probably can’t deny it, because it’s appearing in front of them from everywhere. Such a policy may have worked for them in the 80s and 90s, it may have formed a basis for recovery, but this is not the case now. We are in 2022. We are in the age of telecommunications. As the public knows, the KDP is building roads and police stations in Amediyê. Again, in the last period, the Balisan incident, in which 3 of your martyrs and 2 guerrillas were captured, took place. Any progress on these issues? What do you say about it?

Turkish generals know this very well. That’s why they activate the KDP. KDP also came there and planted the flag of the Kurdistan Region there. It shouldn’t be like that. Don’t force us to do anything. If anyone says these are not true, let them go to Amediyê. They will see everything there. Turkish soldiers and bases are being set up everywhere. Okay, it’s your place, but right now we have a war with the Turkish state, don’t come between us. Then let’s see whether we will defeat them or will they defeat us? Our faith is clear. Where did the Turkish state take over? Our friends have been fighting hand to hand with the Turkish state in Avaşîn for 2 years. We are fighting everywhere. We are fighting against bombardment, air strikes, chemical weapons, all kinds of techniques. If they had some conscience, they would not cooperate with the Turkish state in this case. Turks are not in the front lines, there are those gangs. He wants to do the same here in the South. Why are you there? Bashur wants to do the same. We are as close as an arms distance anyway, why is the KDP intervening? The KDP should not interfere so that an incident does not occur. Let’s see who will defeat whom in a few months. Our friends were not going to harm anyone, they were going from one place to another. Currently, both this incident and last year, 2 of our groups were trapped, we do not know their fate. Here is the last time I say; Let them deliver the bodies of our friends who were martyred from all three of our groups, and our wounded and imprisoned friends, to us intact. This is the most reasonable request. We expect them to meet this demand.
Everyone should know that we are based on the interests of national unity. We don’t want to talk about a conflict between the Kurds, we don’t want to give such an order as the headquarters, but don’t be too hard on us. That doesn’t happen. Everything has a method. We are a sacrificial movement. If we have been stopping NATO’s 2nd strongest army in Avaşîn for 5 months, this shows our strength. Let no one miscalculate. We approach things responsibly. We refer these events to the Kurdish people. If we have a complaint, our people say it. This is a national issue. Our people should not be negligent. This issue will only deepen. There is already a war because of it, the situation is critical. We are not happy to talk like this, but both our people and our friends should know that such a critical situation is taking place. The question is who has how much power and who doesn’t. The issue is the achievements of the Kurdish people in this historical and fragile process. We have a brutal enemy before us. He wants to clash the Kurdish forces with each other in front of everyone. This is a situation that is incompatible with the interests of the Kurdish people. This is our only concern. This is how we explain this issue to the public, to the public, and we want everyone to fulfill their responsibilities.
In connection with this, what should people who should consider themselves responsible for what the KDP has done, to do about it? What should the people do?
Politicians come first among those who consider themselves responsible. But I am not calling for any political party here; We have already made the necessary calls. But Bashure Kurdistan and its politics are facing a great danger. This situation concerns everyone. That is why no one should remain silent on this trend. For example, at a meeting of the PUK, Kek Bafil (Talabani) said, ‘PUK will work for 45 million Kurds’. This is a good thing. But it also takes practice. Practice should be accordingly.
We do not have any expectations from any state or power. We depend only on our people. That’s why I call on all the Kurdish people, especially our people of Behdinan and Bashur; take responsibility for this situation. The resistance in Zap, Avaşîn and Metina concerns all Kurds. First of all, this resistance is an honor for all Kurds. If we defeat the enemy there, we will strengthen the hand of all Kurds, especially the Bashur Kurds. So the problem is a national problem. When we saw this war concept of the enemy, we expected that the KDP would support us in Avaşîn. But it didn’t. We are left alone here. But we have expectations and hope from our people. Our friends who fought there are from 4 parts of Kurdistan. We are fighting on behalf of this people, we are protecting Bashur. For example, female friends, Berfin Rêbaz, (Sara Ahmed) was martyred in the battle of Metina. Who is Sara Ahmed? The commander of YJA Star was a friend of ours from Sulaymaniyah. Again, Avzem Çiya was the commander of the Kurojahro area from Amûdê.
Mizgin Ronahi was a friend of ours from Rojhilat who had been fighting for 15-20 years. From Shahristan Farqin, Binevş Agal Viranşehirli, Didar Harun Mardinli, grew up in Europe, studied, went to America, went to university, came to fight in the mountains of Kurdistan and fell a martyr in Zap. These martyrs are the values of all Kurds. Our male warriors are also the values of our people. I don’t need to name all of them. I can talk about a friend. Fedai Kobanê was an Arab friend of ours. Arab youth are also involved in this war. In other words, a very meaningful resistance is being given today. Therefore, everyone benefits from the success of this resistance. This resistance should be supported, even if you do not support it, do not stand up, do not inform the enemy, do not give intelligence.
Once again, we call on all our patriotic people, intellectuals, artists, politicians, young people and women of Kurdistan, tribes, tribal leaders and everyone with a conscience, do not remain silent in the face of this situation. We are in a historical period and what the Kurdish people need in this period is national unity. That’s why everyone should do their part. I believe we have fulfilled our duty as a guerrilla. We give our lives every day. We have a promise to this people and we are committed to our word. We want to resist the occupation until the end. Rêber Apo has been in prison for nearly 24 years. There is a psychological torture system in İmralı. The enemy is pressing the Leader to take a step back. They want the Kurds to give up their rights. But because Rêber Apo opposes this, the enemy intensifies the isolation and torture in Imrali.
This is how our leadership is resisting, and we are resisting everywhere in Zap, Avaşîn and Marinos. Our friends in the dungeon are also resisting. Politicians are also resisting. So this is a national resistance. It should be supported, not opposed. We defend the will of the Kurdish people. Rêber Apo said, “I want to make a place for the Kurds.” We put our lives on the line, we did not fight for property until this life. Our people know this. We are fighting for this people. Therefore, our people must also fulfill their responsibilities. It is true, maybe the enemy is attacking the guerrillas the most, they are attacking Imrali, they are resisting here too, but everyone should take care of their duty. In this context, we must join hands and develop national unity.

Finally, I want to say: today there is great pressure on Rêber Apo. We haven’t heard from 18 months. There is an unprecedented lockdown in the world. There is cruelty in all dungeons. Funerals have been coming out of the dungeons lately. Most recently, a patriotic youth named Barış Keve was martyred in the dungeon. In this last month, 4 funerals came out of the dungeons. In other words, a policy of persecution is being carried out against our people, our youth and our friends. Elected deputies are arrested, municipalities are usurped. The nature of Kurdistan is being plundered, trees are cut down. There is great hostility towards the Kurdish people. Again, immoral attacks are carried out against the guerrilla. Chemical weapons are used, tactical nuclear weapons are used. They cannot fight hand to hand, they fight with these weapons. Against all this, our people must go out on the streets, organize and not remain silent.
It must fulfill its duty within the framework of the Revolutionary People’s War. There are deficiencies in this regard, we have criticisms in this sense. No one should remain silent against such a savage enemy. There are efforts of our people in Europe, but there has been a relaxation in them lately. But the last time there was a concert in Rome, the capital of Italy, it was something very valuable. We thank and congratulate whoever thought of this, organized it and put in the effort. It was something very valuable. It was very meaningful for the world-renowned and award-winning artists to speak for the Leadership and the people of Kurdistan. Again, the Kurdish festival was held in the Netherlands, which was not bad, but more participation should be ensured, more sacrifices should be made. Why? Because we are not in an ordinary process. We are going through an extraordinary time.
Especially the next 3 months are very important for guerrilla warfare. Because the enemy also wants results, we want results too. This also requires support. It is not in vain that we call it the war of existence and non-existence. This is the truth. That’s why everyone should do whatever they can in this process. Young people should join the guerrilla ranks, women, patriots, everyone should do their duty. This period is a very important period in our history of struggle and we want to win in this process. We believe in ourselves, we will be successful if we continue the ways and methods we have applied until today. The resistance, which has been going on for 5 months, has made victory inevitable. But of course, nothing comes ready-made. We must strive for this. More effort and participation should be made in this process. If this is the case, I believe that we will achieve great victories in this period.
