NEWS CENTER – Mehmet Xeyri Durmuş was born in 1955 in Qumike village of Çewlik. He studied until high school in Çewliki. Then, the Faculty of Medicine of Ankara University. From the beginning of his life, Xeyrî Durmuş had great aspirations and ambitions. When he went to University he was influenced by revolutionary ideas. Even in the university, Xeyrî relationship with people’s freedom struggle is getting bigger. In those years, the truth of Marxism, Leninism was being investigated. At the end of 1975, he met the Apoist group. This Apoist group, which started with a few people, later changed to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Xeyrî Durmuş left the university in 1977 and acted as a revolutionary. In Çewlik, Amed, Merdin and Riha, he took part in people’s organization activities. The leader of the Freedom Movement, Mehmet Xeyri Durmuş, participated in the 1st founding congress of the PKK on November 27, 1978. He also played an important role in the creation of the PKK regulation. On July 30, 1979, the name of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party was announced throughout the world with the Sewereg event. In the same year, Kheyri Durmuş, Mazlum Doğan, Kemal Pir, Sakine Cansız and Mustafa Karasu, many patriots and thousands of people were arrested.

These people were oppressed and tortured in a way that has rarely been seen in human history. Those revolutionaries actively started an unparalleled resistance against oppression and torture. The steadfastness and honorable resistance of the revolutionaries against all kinds of torture has turned into a handout among the people. This situation continued like this from the fascist coup of September 12 until the death fast in 1982.
Xeyrî Durmuş started the July 14th resistance against cruelty and oppression.

On the 61st day, on September 12, he joined the ranks of martyrs of the revolution. Before he died, Xeyrî made this will;

“Before I was arrested and after I was arrested, I did not fully fulfill my party duties.
“Let them write on my grave, I owe it to my people.”
