MEXICO – A demonstration was attacked by paramilitary organization on the last night in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Front of Oaxacan Organizations (FORO) shared a statement in response to the acts of violence against the comrades of the Alliance for Social Justice.
“To the people of Oaxaca.
To the workers of the countryside and the city.
To the democratic and popular organizations.
To the teachers of Section XXII SNTE-CNTE.
We, the undersigned, express our indignation and energetic repudiation of the bestial and reactionary violence committed on the night of September 14 against the comrades of the Alliance for Social Justice, especially against the comrades of COCISS, who were attacked with firearms and all kinds of prohibited objects by shock groups and mercenaries at the service of the State after a series of threats and media lynching campaigns against the popular movement on social networks where hate and provocation are fomented.
Like us, the Alliance for Social Justice, brings together democratic and popular organizations with roots and presence in rural communities and indigenous peoples in resistance; their mobilizations in Oaxaca City, like ours, are due to the lack of attention and response to the demands for justice and social demands that the peoples of Oaxaca Insumiso worthily raise.
The indigenous peoples and communities are becoming more and more mobilized, particularly in defense of their territories and their community agreements.
To date, there are an undetermined number of compañeros and compañeras who have been wounded and are missing or disappeared.
We are not unaware that the different oppressive governments -past, present and future- have made and will surely make use of provocation, violence and terror from the legal and illegal apparatuses of the State to try in vain to silence popular protest.
We hold the state and federal governments responsible for their omission in attending to the just demands of the people, and at the same time we demand that they investigate and clarify the facts in order to punish those who ordered and carried out this aggression.
Those who think that with repression and barbarism they will put an end to the struggle of the workers and the peoples are mistaken. The strength of the popular movement lies in its principles, its roots and its historical trajectory of struggle.
All tyrants of all colors are doomed to be defeated and thrown into the dustbin of history.
In the face of repression, unity and mobilization.
It is time for the militant unity of the workers and peoples of Oaxaca!
Solution to the demands of the people!
Unity in action!
Front of Oaxacan Organizations.”
