LONDON – Today in London, the revolutionary youth movement in London (Şehid Fîraz dag youth commune) and the Jiyan womens assembly organized a remembrance day in Leicester square to honor the Shengal Genocide of 2014.
The group started with a minute of silence for those who were martyred and killed and kidnapped in the Shengal genocide. A speech was delivered to remind the people of the United Kingdom the history and tragedy of the yazidi people Shengal, the victory of the PKK, and the revolutionary peoples war still continuing today.
The action called for the PKK to be removed from the EU, UK and US’s list of terrorist organizations. Further, the protesters condemned the fascist Turkish state for selling weapons, training and making agreements with ISIS; chanting “Turkish state is ISIS, Turkish state is terrorist, Turkish state is racist” and “Turkey trains ISIS” as slogans throughout the demonstration. The recent attacks of Turkey with the help of NATO and the KDP under barazni’s betrayal was also condemned with mentions to Zape, Zakho and many other cities under the attack of the Turkish state.
A list of demands were also read aloud by the protesters. The demands are:
- The massacre in Şengal should be recognized worldwide as a “Yezidi Genocide” and “Day against Femicide”
- The political status of Şengal should be recognized, its autonomy accepted and supported so that the Yezidi community, which has experienced dozens of massacres, is not subjected to renewed genocides
- All democratic and progressive forces, especially women’s movements and organizations, should work for and pursue the liberation of Yezidi female prisoners from ISIS
- International institutions and democratic forces should oppose all impositions on the Yezidi community and should be guided by the will of the Yezidi community as well as recognize their self-defense and administration
- Conditions should be established so that the Yezidi community can return to their own country, namely Şengal.
