BEHDINAN – Komalên Jinên Kurdistan (KJK) Coordination made a written statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the Shengal massacre.
Emphasizing that August 3, 2014 is the black day of the invasion and genocide against the Yazidi people in Shengal by ISIS gangs, who are hostile to humanity and misogyny, the statement said, “August 3 went down in history as genocide and also as a massacre of women. August 3 is primarily our Êzidî people. This is a history that will not be forgotten and should not be forgotten for the region and humanity, especially for the region. The fate of thousands of them is still unknown.
Stating that as we enter the 8th year of the edict on 3 August against our Yazidi society, we will not forget the pain, anger and revenge of our first day by living to our bones; condemns the perpetrators of this massacre and those responsible; We express our assertion and determination that we will continue to hold accountable in our struggle. We commemorate the martyrs of the edict, and all the Shengal resistance martyrs who organized and resisted against this edict with respect. We reiterate our promise that we will keep their memories alive in a free and autonomous Shengal.
Drawing attention to the responsibility of the KDP and Iraqi forces in the edict against the Êzidî people, the KJK statement continued: “While the KDP and Iraqi forces should be held accountable to this people, those who do not recognize the will of the Êzidî community, do not accept its organization and self-government, and impose their sovereignty over the Êzidî community again are acceptable. Our Êzidî society rightly sees the October 9 agreement of these forces, which are responsible for the edict, as a ‘continuation of the edict’ and stands against it.
No matter how severe the wounds inflicted by the edict are, our Êzidî society’s self-defense and self-organization on the basis of self-management has failed the desired result with the edict. However, the Turkish fascist government, which is in cooperation with the ISIS barbarians, still wants to complete what ISIS could not do. The occupying fascist AKP-MHP government cannot tolerate the self-government will of our Êzidî people, who organized themselves by getting rid of the edict; Every day, in front of the eyes of the whole world, Shengal is bombed, and the sons and pioneers of the Yazidi people are massacred. Unfortunately, the world does not speak out today and remains spectators to the barbaric attacks developed by the Turkish Republic, which does not look like ISIS, against our people who have lived through the edict.
As humanity, we have responsibilities and duties towards our Êzidî society and women, who experienced a great massacre on August 3, 2014. First of all, the international community and institutions, women’s movements, all democratic forces should speak out and take a stand against the attacks of the Turkish Republic, which is the continuation of the edict. In order that this society, which has experienced dozens of genocides, does not undergo new genocides; They must accept and support the self-defense, will, and self-government of this society in general.”
EUROPEAN COUNTRIES SHOULD SUPPORT THE WILL OF THE ÊZİDI PEOPLE
The KJK statement, which states that some European countries’ recognition of the massacre against the Yazidi people as genocide is important but insufficient, finally included the following statements: “European countries should also take a stand against the Turkish attacks, which are the continuation of the genocide, and support the Êzidî people’s will for self-government.
Our Êzidî society, especially Êzidî women, will continue to resist to keep these values alive, just as they have carried the belief, philosophy and culture of Ezda, which has been our root culture for thousands of years, to the present day; they will develop their own self-organization by deepening their construction work on the basis of more freedom. It is the duty of all humanity, especially us Kurds, to keep alive and grow this ancient culture, which has reached today through resistance.”
