MEXMÛR – A grand ceremony was held today at the Maxmur Culture and Arts Center for Abu Zeyd Abdulah Ubeyd, who was injured in the drone attack by the genocidal Turkish state on his home in the Şehid Rustem Cûdî (Maxmur) refugee camp and subsequently succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Ubeyd’s body was taken from the hospital under slogans. Hundreds of camp residents attended the ceremony along with the family of the fallen man. During the ceremony, the slogan “Şehid Namirin” was shouted continuously and it was clear that the population’s grief over the renewed drone attack had turned to anger.
The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic People’s Assembly of the refugee camp, Filiz Budak, gave a speech commemorating the fallen of freedom in the person of Abu Zeyd Abdullah Ubeyd.
Budak emphasized that they will take revenge for the fallen and their blood will not be left on the ground, saying: “As the people of Maxmur, we owe our fallen. We are honored to have a martyr like Abu Zayd. The occupying Turkish state, the Barzani family and Iraq want to bring us to our knees. The attack on our comrade is part of this policy.”
“Can we take a step back?”
Noting the price paid for freedom, Budak said: “After all the sacrifices we have paid, we will not step back. We have shed blood; Can we take a step back? ”
Pointing out that the Iraqi government has announced that it will build a fence around the camp, Filiz Budak continued: “They say: ‘We will build wire around you, we will strangle you.’ By denying that, denying we turn to treason and surrender. They rain down planes of death on us. They take away our most valuable people. You should know that after these sacrifices, we will not give up on our case. We do not betray our fallen. If we pay the sacrifices, we’ll get stronger, we’ll intensify the fight. The attack that led to our comrade’s martyrdom was intended to push us back. The stance of our Maxmur people has been clear since the attack until now. Without taking a step back, we should increase the combat of these fallen.
“WITH EVERY SACRIFICE WE GET STRONGER”
They want to intimidate us with attacks. We haven’t given up for 40 years, we’ve been paying the price for 40 years. You still don’t understand; We grow stronger with every sacrifice we make. The legacy of the fallen to us is the defense of society. It is our duty to protect Maxmur more against the occupying Turkish state, the Barzani family and Iraq. This is the legacy of our fallen to us.”
Filiz Budak also drew attention to the betrayal going on in the camp and pointed out that people who betray their own people to the enemy forces and sell themselves should be removed from the camp.
“ONE OF THE FIRST ORGANIZERS OF SELF DEFENSE”
After the speech, Ehmed Özer, friend of Abu Zeyd Abdulah Ubayd, took the floor. Explaining that they are people of the cause, Özer said: “Our cause is great, it is invaluable; For this we pay priceless sacrifices.”
Explaining Abu Zeyd’s revolutionary personality and works, Özer said: “Abu Zeyd was one of the first to establish self-defense while he was in the Bihêrê camp. Since then he has worked with love for the chairman, for his country, for the freedom movement. He always fought the enemy. He never put the interests of his family first. He has always worked with the philosophy of the chairman for the interests of his country and people and organized the people.”
“I AM PROUD OF MY FATHER”
Speaking on behalf of Abu Zayd Abdulah Ubayd’s family, his daughter said her father was a Şehid of the Kurdish people and said: “I am proud of my father’s martyrdom.”
The mother of the fallen, Sultan Yıldız, spoke on behalf of the Committee of the Families of the Fallen. Yıldız said that they will protect the fallen until the end and fight, following in their footsteps and defending their diligence works.
