Bawer Dersim, one of the People’s Defense Center Headquarters Commanders, spoke to ANF on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the 15 August Initiative.
Reminding that the Kurdish people and the Freedom Movement have waged a relentless war against the occupying, colonial and fascist TR for 38 years, Dersim said, “It should never be forgotten that this war started under very adverse historical and social conditions. The struggle for freedom, carried out at great cost, has reached a global level of influence today. As the creative force of the libertarian gains in Kurdistan and the Middle East, the guerrilla has been the most fundamental dynamic of a struggle that is rare in history. Our struggle, aimed at creating the reality of the warring people, started the process of existence and free life under the colonial genocidal attacks. That’s why it was a milestone,” he said.

DEVELOPMENT OF GUERILLA WAR

Guerrilla became one of the most basic methods in the struggle of the working class and oppressed peoples against the bourgeoisie and imperialism in the 20th century. Especially in the fight against colonialism and invaders, it played a role as the most basic method of liberation for peoples to determine their own destiny. With the guerrilla, the peoples created the war style that influenced all humanity and hopes for freedom for the oppressed and peoples. A new page has been opened in the history of freedom with guerrilla resistance. The practice of guerrilla in countries such as China, Cuba and Vietnam, guerrilla warfare was at its height. Afterwards, the working class and all oppressed peoples effectively applied the guerrilla as a method in their liberation struggle.”
GUERILLA PRACTICE IN KURDISTAN
Stating that it is possible to encounter guerrilla forms in the war history of the people of Kurdistan, who have undoubtedly fought against the invaders and colonialism throughout history, Dersim said: and this was taken as the basis in the practical struggle. From the very beginning, efforts were made to bring the guerrilla into existence in Kurdistan, to make the people fight against colonialism with the guerilla style, and to create the reality of the people fighting. The guerrilla practice in Kurdistan cannot be compared with the guerrilla practice of any country. While it is a fact that there are similarities or that world revolution experiences are used, their originality is also quite high.
CREATING THE GUERILLA LINE
An unprecedented colonialism is practiced in the geography of Kurdistan. The existence of the Kurd was denied not only by the Turkish Republic, but also by many powers in the world. Denial of their own existence and slavery were largely adopted by our people. The guerrilla warfare, which was carried out comprehensively with August 15, is a people’s war practice brought to this state. In such a geography, there were great difficulties in making people fight for their country, for the liberation of their people and for freedom. Our war practice, which has been close to 40 years, has had difficulties and pains, but also excitement, joy and victories that fit into almost every day. The Kurdistan freedom guerrilla became a line of liberation with the blood, labor, sweat and bravery of tens of thousands of martyrs. Our Leader’s effort to overcome great difficulties and create the guerrilla was an unprecedented effort. THE PROTOTYPE OF THE FREE MAN
In Kurdistan, the guerrilla is the prototype of the free man, and the guerrilla life is the prototype of the free life. In the 20th century, not freedom, but captivity and slavery brought Kurdish women and men closer together. In a sense, August 15 is a milestone that brings together the fate of Kurdish men and women. The existing social, mental and physical captivity brought Kurdish men and women together in the pursuit of freedom. The holy act of August 15 reconsidered the relationship between war-slavery, war-freedom, war-politics, war-economy, war-woman, war-man, war-relationship, war-patriotism, war-heroism in the language of the mountains in the person of the Kurd. is understanding. It is the Kurdish struggle to gain free identity and personality. The Kurdish mentality revolution is the basis of its renaissance. It is the heart-action relationship and bridge that Kurdish women and men establish with freedom, country, land, patriotism and nature. It is the burning war learning in which the Kurd realizes the backward and beautiful aspects of himself. It is the contemporary expression of the creation of the Kurdish people as a commander from a shepherd, a labor fighter from an intellectual, and a pioneer commander from a woman. As we enter the 39th year, our war history and our style of command, with their missing aspects as well as these creations and achievements, should be addressed in the face of the reality of Egîd.
TRANSITION TO THE REVOLUTIONARY PEOPLE’S WAR
The main strategy that has guided our war tactic for the past 38 years has been the long-term people’s war strategy. This strategy, which emerged as a way of handling and resolving the contradictions of the 20th century, became a strategy based on our Movement, which began to take shape in the early 1970s. With the guerrilla war carried out in this direction, a war of existence was waged, and it became a people with an identity rather than a people who wanted to be denied and destroyed. The changing world balances in the 1990s, again as a result of both the struggle of the oppressed and scientific developments, made it necessary to change the strategy of struggle, which should be developed in the freedom struggle of the peoples. Although the stages of the struggle changed the way the war was conducted, it was a fundamental force in the success of the guerrilla liberation struggle. In this respect, the basic principles of the guerrilla and its implementation in the most ideal forms constitute the essence of our understanding of war in the new era. The guerrilla of democratic modernity determined its positioning, tactical targets, field of action, and its new course according to the political solution target it had set in front of it, according to the revolutionary people’s war strategy.
IT WAS A MUST FOR VICTORY
In the face of the century-old policy of denial and destruction in Kurdistan and the reality of the 21st century, which we can call the age of technology, information and telecommunication, the revolutionary people’s war and the restructuring of the guerrilla are a must for victory. There is no other way to defeat this fascist mentality. As the Freedom Movement, we have redefined guerrillaism in this period that we have passed through the space age in order to successfully carry out democratic modernity guerrillaism. We organized its organizational system by re-forming its movement, action and lifestyle.
FAITH, Courage, Reason and Creativity
The guerrillaism that we will carry out according to the democratic nation paradigm has gained a new content. The revolutionary people’s war, as it is a process in which guerrillaism develops intertwined with protecting its existence and gaining freedom, has the feature of a strategy in which every stage is developed with the help of the people, the party and the guerrilla. For these reasons, HPG and YJA Star require a stronger formation in terms of our forces in a much more philosophical, sociological, political and military field. In terms of tactics, it highlights a flexible, creative and dynamic movement that puts technique at the service of tactics, based not only on faith or courage, but also on reason.
HPG and YJA Star commanders and fighters revealed a fact that the anti-system forces would be inspired by the striking and effective actions they developed against the fascist forces in line with the guerrilla of democratic modernity at a time when the world’s most right-wing and even the revolutionaries said that guerrillaism has come to an end. In our 38 years of war practice, especially in the last 10 years, our practice has revealed with concrete practices that the revolutionary people’s war guerrilla style, which is applied by overcoming the classical war style, can defeat the enemy and even the highest technologies.
GUERILLA WALKING FEARLESS
A much more brutal and ruthless war has been going on in our country for the last 10 years. Even if we evaluate it in terms of the year we are in, without going too far, the movement, action and war style developed by the Kurdistan freedom guerrilla in the invasion attacks on the media defense areas developed in the center of Zap on April 14 have quite striking and instructive value. In this war, which has been four months behind, it has been seen that fascism received fatal blows with the application of the correct and real guerrilla style. Today, a war is being waged in Kurdistan that will not look like world wars. All kinds of weapons, including chemical weapons, are used against our forces. Every inch of our land is being bombarded with war and reconnaissance planes, tanks and howitzers. Despite all this, our guerrillas are marching on the enemy fearlessly, inflicting effective blows on the enemy with the creative tactics they have developed. Of course, it is the passionate devotion of friends to the Leadership, martyrs and freedom that reveals this valiant and heroic stance. It is their belief in victory, their love-level devotion to success and revolution. Today, as a result of the effective implementation of guerrilla tactics with these meaningful and deep loyalties, a rare example of guerrillaism has emerged in Zap, Avaşîn, Metîna and Amediyê. 21st century guerrillaism is guerrillaism practiced in the Zap. The 21st century guerrilla style is the strike style in Girê Hell, the insistence in Şikefta Birîndara, the determination in Girê Cûdî, the loyalty in Mamreşo and the severance in Girê Amediyê. WE ARE NOT GOING THROUGH AN ORDINARY PERIOD
In this period when we are waging the war of existence-non-existence, life-and-death fiercely in Kurdistan, our people, patriots and youth need to organize their lives and struggles according to this war. The period we are going through should never be approached as ordinary, and this process should not be treated as if it were a normal process. All of our people, patriots and revolutionary left organizations must raise the struggle for freedom with this awareness.
In these days, as we leave behind the 38th year of August 15 and enter its 39th year, our guerrilla forces are waging a war along the lines of Egîd and Zîlan, and they are resisting. They achieve new successes almost every day with the actions they take with creative tactics. The Kurdistan freedom guerrilla does not allow colonialism and occupiers. A history of freedom is being written in Kurdistan. As we enter the 39th year in our history of freedom, in which we will march to victory, we congratulate the guerrilla holiday, especially to our Leader, our people and all the forces that are fighting for freedom, and say that the victory will belong to the guerrilla who fights along the lines of Egîd and Zîlan.”
