The Diplomatic Committee of the Youth of Kurdistan in Slovenia
“Last week, representatives of the Diplomatic Committee of the Youth of Kurdistan and the Kurdish Student Association YXK (Yekitiya Xwendekarên Kurdistan) travelled to Ljubljana, Slovenia, where they were received by the youth organization MAO (Mladinska aktivistična organizacija) and the student association LDŠ (Lista demokratičnega študentstva).
At the beginning of the 5-day program, a city tour of Ljubljana was scheduled. Following the traces of the anti-fascist resistance during the Second World War and the period of real socialism in Slovenia, the guests got to know not only the city, but also a part of the rich history of the country. In the afternoon of the next day, about 60 visitors gathered to learn more about the history of the Kurdish freedom movement, the ideological foundations of Rêber APO’s philosophy, as well as the role of youth as a vanguard in the revolutionary process in public seminar blocks. After the event ended, most of the audience stayed on site to discuss the issues raised until late in the evening.
These discussions continued in the following days, focusing especially on the methodological principles and organizational forms of the Kurdish freedom movement. As youth and student movements, experiences of their respective ways of working were exchanged and possibilities for cooperation were explored. All participants agreed that the values and structures of the movement have not only made it possible to successfully resist the capitalist system for 50 years, but have also created a real alternative for a new life. Learning from them means strengthening the internationalist struggle and networking on a common basis.
At the end of the trip, the Slovenian comrades led the Kurdish delegation on a hike in the surrounding mountains, which served as a retreat for Slovenian partisans during the times of Italian and German occupation. In the evening, the film “Ji bo Azadiyê” was shown to about 30 visitors. The values of cooperativeness, sacrifice and discipline presented in the film, as well as the reality of war in Kurdistan, once again illustrated the theoretical background from the discussions of the previous days. In the end, a new meeting was planed.”
