KARLSRUHE – Yesterday the two internationalists who fell defending the revolution in Kurdistan and fighting for a free life were remembered. The two freedom fighters were remembered in a memorial ceremony at the cemetery in Karlsruhe where the German internationalist Dilsoz Bahar (Kevin Joachim) was buried.
Kevin Jochim (Şehid Dilsoz Bahar) grew up in the southern German city of Karlsruhe and joined the Kurdistan Freedom Movement at a young age in 2012. Jakob Riemer (Şehid Şiyar Gabar), an internationalist from Hamburg, joined the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in 2013 and began a new life in the guerrilla ranks. In their search for solutions to the acute crisis of the ruling system, they got to know the ideas of Chairman Abdullah Öcalan and were inspired by the development of democratic confederalism in Kurdistan. As internationalists, they recognized their responsibility and devoted their young lives and all their energies to the revolutionary struggle and defense of a democratic society in the Middle East. They recognized early on the power to solve
While the European states never tire of promoting values such as democracy, peace, freedom and equality, they are actually pursuing an imperialist strategy that means nothing for the peoples of this earth but exploitation, oppression and slavery. The two friends exposed this false double standard early on and continued their search for answers in the mountains of Kurdistan. There they learned that contrary to what people would like to believe, a life beyond the capitalist modern age can already be a reality today. This alternative ranges from the grassroots democratic revolution in Rojava, through the city administrations in northern Kurdistan to the liberated mountains of the guerrilla Kurdistan and today points the way to a free future.
With their life and struggle, the two comrades became a guide and inspiration for thousands of internationalist youth from all countries of the world who flock to Kurdistan to take their place in the ranks of the revolution and to continue the internationalist struggle of the two fallen freedom fighters. Even today they are a shining example of the real spirit of internationalism.
Yesterday, more than 30 people gathered at the grave of Kevin Jochim in the cemetery in Karlsruhe to commemorate the fallen. Internationalist young people and the local Kurdish structures called for the commemoration event. The commemoration was opened with a minute’s silence and speeches were used to commemorate the lives and struggles of those who died. At the end, a wreath was laid at the grave and the international partisan song “Bella Ciao” was sung together. The speeches also reminded that those who died in the revolutionary struggle live on with their dreams and thoughts in the hearts and struggles of comrades.
The memorial service ended with the promise of those present never to forget the dreams and thoughts of Kevin and Jakob and to continue fighting for the realization of a liberated Kurdistan and a free world.
